I've read this book on and off for a good 6 months, and finally pushed through the last few chapters all at once. It's a lot of information and since I don't do speeches for work too often - though more than I honestly like too - I was only able to test out some of it here and there as needed. BUT I do suspect as I prepare my next talk that some of the tips, tricks, and tactics will come back to me. This is one I think I'll need to re-read again one day. Classic and goody though a bit outdated, but still practical and applicable.

It is not often I read a book that is basically a waste of time, but this book by David Bornstein is one of them. I picked it up with the hopes of promise of something useful, but I was left with a collection of poorly written stories about "social entrepreneurs". Instead of writing about them and explaining their accomplishments in more practical terms, Bornstein leaves us with a history lesson.

Buy this book if you want a fairly lengthy book on your shelf with an impressive title. Don't buy it for content.

I don’t remember being more bored and exhausted of reading a book. I originally thought the book speaks about speaking generally, like having an eloquent conversation with individuals in your day-to-day, and not actual public speaking, but I still persisted on reading it since public-speaking also concerns me to some extent. However, I found the vast majority of the insight too basic and obvious.
It gives you fair ways on how to improve your confidence, but most of the other things included are too “duh!”. For example, it says things like: “make your subject short and clear” or “put in tidy sequence” or “look into your audience’s interest”, and many dull information that occupy a lot of the book similar to these. It was really an effort reading 30mins of it every morning.

tDale Carnegie has given so much fantastic advice through this book. It's shocking that you can have a formula for the most useful skill in one hand. I have used this book not only for effective speaking, but also for other skills. Many of the principles in this book are life changing, and can help you have a bigger understanding and new perspective of learning.
tMy favorite two quotes in this book are “You’ve never thought of learning in the right-the conquering-spirit”(page 22). This changed my view of learning, and allowed me to gain motivation and passion behind my learning experiences. The second quote is “there is a danger of memorizing script”(page 71). I can tell you from experience that the best speeches and talks I have ever given were never written down.
tI advise you to read this book with sticky notes, write down things that strike you and put them in the book. I have found myself time and time again, reading my notes, reminding myself of the principles and ideas this book has to offer.

The Quick & Easy Way to Effective Speaking felt quite repetitive. Each chapter felt the same from a different angle. To me it felt it mainly focused on confidence.
With that said I found the example in the book very helpful and interesting, it contains many examples (part of speeches) and analyzes them. If you think you are a good speaker or presenter this book will take you from good to great. If you don't feel like a good speaker and not sure where to start, the book is there to help as well. The bottom line of the book is that if you want to become better at something you just need to practice it until it becomes a habit.
The real treat of the book is that at the end of each chapter there are amazing quotes, I just wanted to finish the chapter to get to them and went over all of them when I finished the book.
