Honestly, I never thought I'd be reading about warfare strategy let alone 5th Century BC Chinese military strategy, yet here I am and did I find it interesting and insightful? Hell, yeah! I did very much.

In case you are wondering, yes, n  The Art of Warn by n  Sun Tzun is still a relevant read today, even if you're not wearing heavy metal armor and wielding a sword.

I read this book several years ago, at a time when I was in the midst of of a "power struggle" at work. You do not have to be at war to benefit from the teachings of Sun Tzu. I followed the strategies and counsel in this book very carefully.



This man truly knew how to win in every type of battle, because your focus is on understanding and controlling your enemy/foe. This is an amazing and indispensable guide for those of you who still have the enthusiasm and energy to battle life in a cut throat world. You can use many of Sun Tzu's tactics to gain many an advantage in your personal life, and it truly is a fascinating read. Highly recommended.

5.0 stars. One of the most influential books ever written and certainly the foundational book on basic military strategy and tactics. Amazingly enough, its wisdom is still relevant today even after over 2500 years since its original creation.

Sūnzǐ Bīngfǎ= The Art of War, Sun Tzu

The Art of War is an ancient Chinese military treatise dating from the Spring and Autumn Period (roughly 771 to 476 BC).

The work, which is attributed to the ancient Chinese military strategist Sun Tzu ("Master Sun", also spelled Sunzi), is composed of 13 chapters.

Each one is devoted to a distinct aspect of warfare and how that applies to military strategy and tactics. For almost 1,500 years it was the lead text in an anthology that would be formalized as the Seven Military Classics by Emperor Shenzong of Song in 1080.

The Art of War remains the most influential strategy text in East Asian warfare. It has a profound influence on both Eastern and Western military thinking, business tactics, legal strategy and beyond.

This book, written in the 5th century BC, tells us the strategies and tactics needed for winning a war. Sun Tzu tells us that no nation is ever benefitted by prolonged warfare, and it is better to avoid battles. If we reach a point where war is inevitable, Sun Tzu will help us win it in the best way possible without hurting many people. Even though it was written centuries ago, all the tactics mentioned in it are still relevant.

A Arte da Guerra é assunto que não me interessa nada, mas precisava de um livro chinês para a minha promessa livresca de 2018 (já tinha começado a ler um outro, que encostei porque me faz falta para a promessa de 2019) e fui ao "baú dos monos", onde guardo os livros que não tenciono ler (a razão porque os compro é um mistério insondável). Pois... como eu calculava, fui derrotada logo na primeira página. Ainda o tentei ler como uma espécie de auto-ajuda; ou seja, para ver se retirava umas dicas de como me relacionar com as pessoas e com a vida com mais sabedoria. Não resultou. Andei páginas para a frente, páginas para trás e não fui capaz nem de fingir que era capaz.

Glad to have read this. Becoming more disciplined in what I do. Because I can utilise the ideas anywhere I need to.

This book is really short and actually easy to read.
But I would say take your time to read it. Far better is to annotate or take notes of what you get from it.

✨What it is about:
☑️war strategy and planning but the actual scenarios will not be exactly applicable everywhere for everyone

✨How we can apply this book in our lives today:
☑️teaches us to think about the unknown but possible scenarios we would face when we are planning for a big change/process

☑️plan out different practical tactics with the resources that would be available to us despite unknown circumstances

☑️keeping a sharp eye on what would hinder/stop/oppose our progress

I find this book quite useful. However, as the exact words and scenarios described in the contents are of historical/geographical/war strategies, I had to read the book slowly and seek out what would be applicable for me.

Worth the hype? Yes.
Is this book for everyone? Yes but it depends on what you are seeking from this book.

Not entirely sure if Giles' was the right translation to pick up. In any case, it had a certain majesty to it and the timeless elegance of great works. Not sure about the relevance and applicablity that the back cover boasted of though. My interest was derived primarily from the rich tapestry it wove of 600 BC China.

The Art of War was written around 500 BC by a man of amazing stragedy named Sun Tzu. It was written on very thin strips of bamboo and pain stakenly sewed together. This volume describes the strgedies to create a very successful life, win in battles and relationships. This book has been used through the ages as a guide in battles. It is the cor coriculum in many war colleges including West Point. Sun Tzu successfully predicted the outcome of the battle of Getiesberg, and the Vietnam war. I recommend all read this book for it' bennafits in o's life and relationships.

I listened to this as I cooked and cleaned. I would have never thought about it, but just about everything in that book seems like common sense.
I highly recommend this book. I am not into military stuff, but I did enjoy this.

Nothing life-changing, but a fun, quick read. Sure, from a historical perspective this text is interesting, there are cool sounding quotes, but I honestly think this is overquoted in fiction nowadays and anytime I read about a male main character having a copy of this book, because the author thinks it will make him seem tough or something I have to admit I roll my eyes.
