3.5; a sort of nouveau roman response to 'Last Year at Marienbad', set in a resort/rest hotel perhaps just down the road from Robbe-Grillet's and with the emphasis on memory changed to identity; possesses an atmosphere of constant, haunting ambiguity but for me nowhere near as effective as the other.

An excellent, confusing account of insanity, desire, and erosion that sticks with the reader long after the book is finished. Slightly existential, leaning more toward a play than a novel- would love to see it performed as she suggests.

No recuerdo haber leído algo de la autora antes, pero sí haber oído sobre su estilo erótico, de frases breves y algo crípticas. Mucho de eso se ve en esta novela que refleja las relaciones que se van dando entre los visitantes de un balneario en una dinámica de celos, deseo, romance, secretos y algo de traición.
Encontré interesantes algunas frases y algunos diálogos, a pesar de reconocer que la gente no habla así en la vida real y que muchas veces hay algunas omisiones en la convesación que - deliberadamente por parte de la autora - guían a alguna confusión o al menos alguna ambigüedad.
"Destruir, dice" se lee rápido, sin mucha incomodidad, pero en mi experiencia personal, también sin mucha maravilla.

This is one of the early readings of Duras for me. It somehow managed to get me reading more her work.

Truly unusual "novel" - more of an experimental play than a novel, really. Will have more to say about it for AV club's wrapped up in books next month.

Meh. An example of a Duras that really didn't work for me. Couldn't finish it.

Es un guión de teatro. Versa sobre 4 personajes en un decorado reducido. Toda la obra es un diálogo que mantienen esos cuatro personajes, ves sus movimientos, lees sus silencios, y sinceramente, se me ha hecho bola desde el principio. Me costaba seguirle el ritmo al diálogo. Largo y tedioso.
