Μια ιστορία που για μένα στο μεγαλύτερο μέρος της μου φάνηκε επαναληπτική και λίγο αδιάφορη. Φυσικά δεν αμφισβητείται η πένα του Zafón και η ικανότητα του να πλάθει συναρπαστικά σενάρια, μόνο που, σε αυτή εδώ αναγνώρισα πολύ εύκολα επαναλαμβανόμενα μοτίβα των υπολοίπων βιβλίων του και κάποια ήδη γνωστά από αλλά έργα κλασικής λογοτεχνίας.
Τα τελευταία κεφάλαια με καθήλωσαν για αυτό και η βαθμολογία μου, σίγουρα αξίζει να διαβαστεί από τους αναγνώστες του συγγραφέα.

What happens when you mix a toy maker’s automatons and an angry malevolent shadow? Carlos Ruiz Zafón’s writing style is gorgeous and he paints lovely word pictures. Jonathan Davis, the narrator, had a pleasant warm voice yet the ability to ramp up the creepiness was impressive. The story reminded me of The Picture of Dorian Grey and a little of Peter Pan; dark and creepy, yet innocent and playful. I’m not one for scary books, but a book that messes with your mind a little bit and makes you second guess the sound of a ticking clock in a darkened room never hurt anyone…or did it? -Noelle M.

Leer a Zafón siempre es sinónimo de magia.
Es una historia juvenil, sí, pero es tan bonita que perderse en las páginas de este libro es una maravilla.
La forma que tiene de escribir Zafón en única. La forma que tiene de tocar el alma con pocas palabras es sorprendente.

La historia tiene es toque mágico, fantástico, misterioso, encantado, poético, clásico... que tanto caracteriza a este autor. Con su narración, hace que te adentres completamente en su mundo y cada página que pasas es una nueva visita a la costa de Normandía, un nuevo paseo por la Playa del Inglés, una nueva historia de miedo en la Cueva de los Murciélagos, una nueva incursión en el bosque a los pies de Cravenmoore... Puedes sentir el latir de los mecanismos de los autómatas de Lazarus Jann, la sombra maldita del fabricante que surgió de los engaños de Daniel Hoffman y puedes ver las luces de septiembre brillando sobre la torre del faro que se alza sobre las brumas.

No hay más que leer las cartas del principio y del final para que el corazón se encoja de esa forma que solo provocan las grandes historias. Al leer ese prólogo y epílogo no puedo evitar acordarme de esa canción de Coti: Nueces. Guarda grandes similitudes.

En el final, el autor deja que la imaginación del lector que complete la historia y dibuje ese tren procedente de Austerlitz, pero a decir verdad, me hubiera encantado estar presente esa mañana en la estación de Normandía y leer lo que sucedió.

Otra cosa bonita de los libros de Zafón es que siempre te enseñan algo (En realidad muchas cosas). Que se desvanezcan las sombras y que brillen las luces, que hasta en los peores días de la guerra hay que tener sueños.

Кратичка история, ориентирана към юношеската аудитория, която не блесна с кой знае каква оригиналност, но пък беше разказана добре. Научих и нова дума - Допелгенгер (Doppelgänger) - в литературата от епохата на романтизма - двойник на човека, проявяващ се като тъмната страна на личността. Яко!

Tercer libro de La Trilogía de la Niebla: ¡Check!

Una rilettura di uno dei miei libri preferiti da adolescente.

Le cinque stelle le ho messe perché io ad ogni età, sempre e comunque, amo Zafón e la sua scrittura e questo libro mi ha intrattenuto. E poi, non meno importante, anche per una questione affettiva e un sentimento che mi lega all'autore e alle sue opere.

1937. France.

Recently widowed Simone takes up a position in a mysterious mansion at the sea belonging to a solitary toy maker and populated by his ingenious machinery. Her teenage daughter befriends a local boy and they soon uncover a decades old mystery and haunting shadows that threaten the lives of her entire family.

After the relative disappointment of Zafon's short story THE ROSE OF FIRE I decided to approach another one of his early novels and was very totally enamoured again with his writing.

Originally published in 1995, THE WATCHER IN THE SHADOWS is the third part of his Trilogy of Fog. I have not yet read the previous two books but they only appear to be loosely connected and based on this work can easily be read in any order. They don't seem to have an overlying story or character ark and I suspect that they may just be connected by a general Gothic mood.

His early work is generally described as being aimed at Young Adults but this already bears the hallmarks of his later works and though very much focused on teenagers on the brink of adulthood, it can comfortably be read by adults as well.

This is a gripping and very atmospheric novel with realistic characters and a genuine sense of fear and dread. The first half provides ample scope for character development so that by the time the cliff hanger style threats start developing in the second half the reader can properly root for them.

It's a very cinematic style of writing and time again throughout my reading I was thinking that this could make a great film.... though it could also turn into a CGI debacle and may just better be left alone in book form.

I just wish that this would actually be read by Young Adults (and not only by adult fans of his Cemetery of Forgotten Books) just so that they can see that fiction aimed at teenagers does not need to be TWILIGHT style garbage.

Ah well, one can only dream.....

Beautifully written although I would have liked more!

- After reading The Shadow of the Wind by Zafon a couple of years ago (I fell in love) I was a little disappointed with this novel. That's not saying I didn't enjoy it - I did - but it just didn't reach the beauty and enchantment of The Shadow of the Wind.

- This follows the story of a single Mother who moves with her son and daughter to a sea-side town. She takes up a position in a local mansion working for a mysterious toy maker and her family slowly begin to integrate into the life of the town. The story is told through the eyes of the daughter, Irene, who befriends a young boy in the town named Ismael. A whirlwind summer romance ensues and both Irene and Ismael can't bare to be apart. But just as life seems to be looking up for Irene and her family Ismael's cousin is mysteriously murdered and found in the woods near the Mansion of the toy-maker. Determined to uncover the secrets hidden within the walls of the mansion and to stop the elusive toy-maker from stealing the heart of her Mother, Irene embarks on a dangerous mission to save the people she loves.

- For a book classified as a 'children's' novel I would say this is very creepy read! I'm not sure I would have enjoyed reading it when I was younger! The pacing was okay but some parts of the story did drag a little.

- If you enjoyed The Shadow of the Wind I would say this doesn't compare but if you are looking for a shorter, lighter read then this could be something of interest to you!

- 3 out of 5 stars, I shall definitely be reading more from Zafon in the future despite my disappointment in this read.

Книгата леко ми доскуча, но това отдавам на желанието си да изчета цялата трилогия наведнъж. В действителност сюжетът на творбата е доста интригуващ и стилистиката на текста, в комбинация с нотката на магически реализъм, напомня предходните две произведения.

Lo primero que tengo que decir es que con los libros de Carlos Ruiz Zafón no puedo ser imparcial. Yo amo todo lo que escribe este señor y aún cuando esta trilogía juvenil es previa a sus novelas más vendidas, El Cementerio de los Libros Olvidados, ya mostraba su gran talento.

n  Un universo infinito de libros ascendía en espiral babilónica hacia una claraboya de cristal tintado. Miles de mundos desconocidos y misteriosos convergían en aquella catedral de libros.n

Francia, verano de 1937.
Aquí el autor nos sitúa en la costa de Normandia y nos presenta un nuevo misterio: un adinerado inventor y fabricante de juguetes, llamado Lazarus Jann, que tiene más de un secreto guardado en la interminable red de pasillos de su mansión, y de como dos jóvenes intentarán resolver el rompecabezas que rodea el bosque de Cravenmoore y a su misterioso dueño.

n  Las buenas historias necesitan de pocas palabras…n

Este libro tiene todos los elementos de misterio y suspenso; un personaje enigmático, una casa enorme y llena de habitaciones por descubrir donde viven criaturas autómatas de miedo, un pequeño pueblo, una leyenda de fantasmas y una familia queriendo un nuevo comienzo.

Debo decir que este libro es una relectura, ya que lo leí a finales del año pasado y y no lo recordaba mucho así que quise releerlo para reseñarlo mejor. La prosa del autor se conserva, asi como sus bellas y bien pensadas descripciones. En esta última entrega de la trilogía de la Niebla ya se notaba la habilidad especial de Zafón para para crear atmósferas tétricas y góticas que te envuelven durante la lectura.

n  No debes creer en todo aquello que ves. La imagen de la realidad que nos brindan nuestros ojos es sólo una ilusión, un efecto óptico.n

Algo que me ha llegado mucho la atención de este autor después de leerle todos sus libros, es que siempre crea un amor prohibido en medio de ese ambiente gótico y de misterio, y este libro no es la excepción. Culmina con un un final lleno de amor, un amor eterno que ni siquiera las sombras pudieron apagar.

Yo lo recomiendo, de la trilogía, para mí este es el mejor escrito.
