Mycket bra bok, men också jobbig då den får en att tänka till mycket på områden i sitt liv som ibland kan vara smärtsamma. Skulle rekommendera den för alla kristna.
This book took me forever to finish, primarily because I was doing the study in the back of the book at the same time, and the content is deep. Highly recommend for anyone and everyone. It can get repetitive at times, but I found that was actually helpful for some of these truths to sink in and stick in my memory.
Great practical classic book to help us learn how to gain our sense of value from God alone! I love his tips and tools for examining the lies we’ve come to believe and replacing them with God’s truth!
I highly recommend this book whether you've been following Jesus for years or exploring your faith. God loves us far more than we can imagine and we have great worth in his eyes.
Recommended by a Christian therapist, and being a Christian who loves to study the Bible (ESV, NIV, KVJ mostly, plus grace-orientation), I found this book useful for reminding me of God's love and sacrifice for me. No need to search for significance; I am significant in God's eyes. However, I did find some common errors in the presumed correct theology, but nothing too major. I'd recommend it lightly.
Title: The Search for Significance: Seeing Your True Worth Through God’s Eyes
Rating: 4.5/5
Robert S. McGee does a great job of comparing common lies with biblical truth. We all have lies that we believe about ourselves, others, and God, but what do we do about it? In this workbook style novel, McGee gives great practical ways of combating those lies and replacing them with God’s truth so that we might see ourselves the way we were always meant to.
3 main takeaways: - Our failings to meet the standards of the law does not being condemnation or deprecation. The believe is released from the law and its inherent condemnation because of Jesus’ fulfillment of the law.
- We have not been licensed by God to punish others for their sins. Judgement is God’s responsibility, not man’s. Our response should not be judgement or condemnation; our response should be love and affirmation.
- Guilt can never ultimately build, encourage, or inspire us in our desire to live for Christ. The Bible NEVER tells the Christian to feel psychological guilt.
Key Quote:
“God doesn’t base His love and acceptance of us on our performance. If any sin is so filthy and vile that it makes us less acceptable to Him, then the cross is insufficient. If the cross isn’t sufficient for all sin, then the Bible is in error when it says that He forgave all your sins.”
(Big thanks to @marleenorthcutt for leading me through this in discipleship)
This is probably my favorite book of all-time. Perhaps because of its relevance to me at the time of reading it. I read it during college, when I was really seeking to find purpose and acceptance in my life. This book brings to light the universal lies that trigger our feelings of self-doubt and unworthiness. It is important to remain focused and aware of the fact that we all serve a greater purpose as God's children and that he created us all with the greatest amount of significance possible! Such a refreshing book, I occasionally will reread parts of it and it speaks to me every time! :)
I really enjoyed this book! It showed me lies I believe, how they affect me, and how I can overcome the destructive behavior and thoughts they can have on me, but how God has called me justified, reconciled, and propitiated so that I don't have to believe the lies. It reminded me of Live no Lies.
