I love recipes for my slow cooker, but this cookbook is quite frustrating. It is set up by readers submitting their recipes. There are multiple recipes of the same kind, but different ways and ingredients. There are no pictures to show what your food is going to look like after cooking....and with a slow cooker I think that is important because people don't really want to eat something that looks like the dogs dinner. This book seemed like a precursor to the website Allrecipes, but without the pictures and ratings of people that have made the recipe.

Tons of variety for the slow cooker, ranging from a few ingredients to heartier recipes. Lots of familiar dishes as well as some foreign dishes to try out. Everything from appetizers to main dishes to desserts and drinks. A few holiday inspired meals are thrown in too. I made a list of 45 dishes I want to try! Definitely going to be handy in the kitchen.

This is one of the best cookbooks I've seen for slow cooker recipes. There are enough in every category to keep most cooks satisfied.

And the recipes are fairly basic, too. No weird ingredients that you will only use once. Sometimes the recipes answer my slow cooker questions--like, can I put a frozen piece of meat or poultry into the slow cooker? And sure enough, I'll find a recipe that did just that.

I have always found a slow cooker recipe to suit whatever I wanted to make in this book, without having to search the internet.

The Fix-It and Forget-It Cookbook is a great resource for those of us who can't always fix meals in the afternoon. Many people are busy at work and have little time, once they get home at the end of the day, to fix a proper meal.

This cookbook is one option for such people. I don't use the crockpot more than once a week or so, but for those days when a slow-cooked meal is called for, this is a very helpful cookbook.

One of the nice aspects of this volume is that it is, in a sense, a "populist cookbook," based on recipes submitted by people throughout the country.

Some of the recipes that I have used and found satisfying include "Cherry Pork Chops," "Italian Chops" (this recipe could not be simpler--but the outcome is tasty), "Pork Chops and Mushrooms," "Barbecued Pork Ribs," "Chicken in Mushroom Gravy," "Pork Chops in Orange Sauce," "Autumn Pork Chops," "Chicken with Applesauce," "Saucy Apricot Chicken," "Chicken a la Orange," "Elegant Chicken with Gravy," and so on.

Crockpot cooking will not be for everyone. However, for those for whom the crockpot makes sense and serves their needs, this is a very helpful resource and is worth considering for their cookbook library.

Was home visiting my parents over the holidays several years ago. While there, my dad made the best stroganoff dish. Turns out the recipe came from this cookbook. Grabbed a copy for myself. Have made a number of recipes. Most are pretty simple, as is generally the case with crockpot cooking. Lacks pictures, multiples of similar recipes, but recipes are plentiful. Nothing fancy.

So ridiculously meat-centric. Recipes are mostly from midwest (heavy on the fat and salt), not healthy. I found maybe 5 things in here I would make.

I like how it has several different versions of similar recipes. Usually I pick and choose what looks best or best fits what I currently have in my cupboard. A crockpot owner must!

With so many recipes containing canned food, I almost regret ever buying this book. That being said, the ONLY recipe I ever make with canned food in it came from this book: Chicken Delicious (p. 170) is perfect that wintry, cold day when you or family members are feeling under the weather and just don't feel up to cooking (which is a rare day for me). It's the only reason I keep a single can each of cream of mushroom soup and cream of celery soup in our pantry at all times. I have noticed others have commented that they do not like how the book often has several variations of many of the recipes--I actually find this a beneficial feature.

Yum!

Lots of great recipes. I will be making a lot of them. I'm especially intrigued by the mixed bean casseroles.

pretty good, but with no pics it's hard to tell on some things. plus, you have to search through like 10 of any one recipe and find one that you like.
