I wish "can of cream of mushroom soup" wasn't the key ingredient in almost every recipe. Adding MSG to my food isn't something that interests me.

This is presently my favorite cookbook. Winter time is a great time to use the crock pot to prepare wonderful stews, try yummy new spaghetti sauce recipes, even do a fragrant chicken without turning on the oven. I don't think I would eat properly without my helper book. I am usually able to feed myself for a whole week, or freeze part of a dish for another time. As an exceptionally busy person, constantly on the go, this savory cookbook is a godsend.

Comes in handy for a few key recipes. Lots of the same. Is my go to for my crockpot favorites.

Some of the recipes call for an awful lot of Velveeta, but if you snoop around enough, you will find a handful of yummy and healthy recipes that are easy to make.

I use this one constantly. Even though some of the recipes are inedible for me as they are, because of all the dairy products, reading them helps me understand what proportions of ingredients to use when I'm making up my own slow-cooker creations, usually with excellent results. I like this one, but in a lot of cases I'm looking mostly at entertainment value here, not edibility. When a recipe tells me to blend ketchup, grape jelly, and Vienna sausages and simmer for 4 hours, I'm not exactly tempted to try it. This cookbook has been very valuable to me as far as teaching me how to convert recipes to the slow cooker But as far as following the recipes in here, for the most part I have to decline -- some people are trying to eat light, you know? There are recipes in here that include a can of cream of chicken soup AND a can of cream of mushroom and makes only 4 servings. And you wonder why America is the fattest country in the world.

I pulled a couple of recipes that I will be trying soon. While many were duplicated, such as chili, it was interesting to see so many variations. If anything this book gave me the confidence to throw that extra (fill-in-the-blank) into the crockpot whenever I am trying for something new!

When I found a brand-new Slow Cooker in a yard sale, I was quite happy with myself. It was very cheap and had never been used. I walked away with my head up, thinking of my little treasure. As soon as I arrived at my home, I promptly put the Slow Cooker into a cabinet…and forgot all about it. It took me TWO YEARS before I remembered my little treasure, sitting on its lonesome shelf. So I decided to start using it, but really didn’t have much to go on, as I had never had a Slow Cooker. What to do? I had another book about crockpot cooking, but decided there were more dishes to create. This handy spiral-bound publication came to the rescue.

It turns out that this is the most popular of Slow Cooker books. There are NO pictures, but that’s because there are hundreds of recipes. Set up to start with the most popular of slow cooking meals, the reader gets to learn about the various recipes for stews and soups and chilis, the foundations of the Slow Cooker empire. The great aspect of this book is that there are different variations for every dish. For example, Betty from Iowa may have one recipe for basic Beef Stew but Joe from Ohio may have another. That’s right, the book collects homespun recipes from across the United States, which is why I enjoyed reading it as a regular book.

There are also recipes for breads, veggies, main dishes, and desserts. But what I really liked were the many hints and tips, such as changing the amount of liquids if one is slow cooking a dish that is normally prepared on the stove. Some of the folks who contributed recipes are a bit more adventurous than I could ever be, in that they suggest starting your Slow Cooker in the morning so that the meal is ready when you come home from work. I’d prefer to be nearby when cooking, so that’s one tip I won’t be following. However, the book truly is a smorgasbord of new meal ideas for me and, most importantly, allows me to cook during the very hot months. Yay!

Book Season = Year Round (so easy)

I love this cookbook! I'm delighted that the recipes aren't too fancy. This cookbook is for everyday family cooking. What I love about this book is, it offers several recipes for the same main dish. So, if I don't have ingredients, for example, I can move on to the next recipe. Chicken parmesan was a hit with my family.
