Great variety of recipes, my copy has at least a dozen post-it flags sticking out so I can find what I am looking for. It requires patience to wade through because there is not an easy index or divided sections.

This book has a ton of recipes. The reason I gave it 2 stars is because there seem to be many repeated recipes. I think there were more than 10 chili recipes. It also didn't seem to have anything in there I didn't already know about slow cooking, so maybe it is more for someone first using a slow cooker.

For anyone with a slow cooker, the Fix It And Forget It Cookbook Series has been an absolute staple in your cookbook library. The newest 2017 edition, the “Fix It And Forget It Cookbook – 700 Great Slow Cooker Recipes” is the newest revision of the best-selling book. Starting with a quick welcome and a few tips on how to use your slow cooker effectively this huge tome dives right into the 700 recipes.

The beauty of the recipes in the Fix It And Forget It Collections is that they are home-cook tested. That means that regular everyday people have created or tested these recipes and cooked them over and over again so you know that they’ll turn out exactly as expected.

As with most slow cooker recipes, they are exceptionally easy and with 700 recipes the variety is excellent.

Chapters include:

Appetizers, Snacks & Spreads
Breakfast Foods
Breads
Soups, Stews & Chilis
Main Dishes
Beef Main Dishes
Pork Main Dishes
Pasta & Pizza Main Dishes
Chicken & Turkey Main Dishes
Bean Main Dishes
Seafood Main Dishes

Beverages

In order to assist you with your recipes, the back of the book has several auxiliary pages with information on Equivalent Measurements, Metric Equivalents, Substitutions and your Must-Have Kitchen Tools. The excellent index not only gives you an alphabetical list of each recipe but also groups items by the main ingredient. For instance, if you have a chocolate craving you just need to look under C for Chocolate to find a list of all of the recipes that include your favorite ingredient.

The recipes themselves are very short, sweet and to the point, as with most slow cooker recipes. They all include the information on how many Servings, Prep Time, Cooking Time, and the ideal size of slow cooker pot to use. Many recipes also come with Serving Suggestions, and Variations. I love variations because that means you can personalize the recipe so much more easily because you know what variations will work. Some of the recipes even come with a little note from the contributor or somebody who’s made the recipe giving tips on how to use the recipe effectively.

Not all of the recipes have a picture, it looks like about one in three recipes have one. I was so happy though to see the pictures are either on the same page with the recipe or they have a lovely nice label. Having the picture show the name of the recipe is so helpful. I hate it when I see pictures in a recipe book of a dish I have never experienced before and I don’t know what I’m looking at therefore I don’t know which recipe to use to make it.

One of my favorite things to do with the slow cooker is Soups. It is especially good when it’s cold out to have a nice warming soup. I was thrilled to find 112 pages of Soups, Stews, & Chilis in this book which means variety!

Your Imagination Is The Limit

But Soups and Stews are not the only things you can make with a slow cooker. Quite literally your imagination is the only limit. This is especially true of the Dessert section where some people might be surprised to find recipes for Cakes, Crumbles, and other tasty delights. With the holiday season coming up the beverage section will be especially helpful with the recipes for Hot Punches, Spiced Coffee, Ciders, and several variations of Wassail.

As always with Fix It And Forget It collections, this book is top-notch. It is an excellent addition to my keeper cookbook library.

I like this book and have found several great recipes in it, but my one complaint is that so many of the recipes are almost too similar to others in that category to make a difference.

I have used the original "Fix-It and Forget-It Cookbook" for years. It is one of the most used cookbooks in my kitchen library. I jumped at the chance to be able to review the "Revised and Updated" version, because the first was a great cookbook. I was a little concerned, as I thought that the revisions would end up removing recipes or changing them to a more "healthy" and possibly less flavorful versions of those that made the original great.

The "Revised and Updated" version is definitely worth getting! After putting both the original and "Revised and Updated" books side by side and comparing them, the "Revised and Updated" wins hands down. There have been recipes eliminated, but only those that I found that were redundant or very similar. One hundred new recipes were added in their place. The "Revised and Updated" edition contains hints and tips that are wonderful, beautiful mouthwatering photos, and what I found really useful was how large of a crockpot to use. Many times, I had to move up to a larger one, because I underestimated the amount. Now no more guesswork! Another useful hint I really liked tells how to find out what temperature your slow cooker cooks at. Now, with this information, you will have the perfect dish instead of one that may come out underdone or overdone.

I learned quite a bit from this book, plus all my favorite recipes like Pirate Stew (p44), Full-Flavored Beef Stew (p85) and Cherry Delight (p250) are still included. I have retired the original "Fix-It and Forget It Cookbook" and passed it on, replacing it with the "Revised and Updated" edition. It really is a better cookbook than the last! This is a must have for anyone that loves to come home to a good home cooked meal. I highly recommend it!!!

I love this cookbook! It was a gift for Christmas, and my aunt says it is her slow cook bible (and she is definitely the slow cooker queen!) I have made four recipes from it, and I must say I love it already! You can easily alter the recipes listed or just follow the instructions. And there are lots of varieties for all of your favorite foods. Also, there are vegetarian sections which I love! I'm going to try the french onion soup this weekend. Slow cookers are the way to go when you know you'll be busy and just want to "fix it and forget it"!

Always the first cookbook I grab, they have several recipes for the same food...with different ingredients, so it you don't have or don't like something, pick the next one:) (they can be modified for regular cooking vs slow cooking).

YEAH, they have cookbooks on here, too! This book is a great collection of recipes for the crock-pot--I made one from here just the other day, actually! The problem for me is doing the planning so that I get the stuff in the crockpot in the morning before I leave for work..I am always glad when I do, though! Another issue is that oftentimes, the crockpots cook alot faster and hotter these days so if I put it in before I leave for work,by the time I get home, the stuff is overdone bigtime! However, if I go home at lunch and put it it, that works for alot of recipes..so I am going to try to start doing that some.

I found this cookbook to be a bit of a disappointment. Too many (nearly) identical recipes, no pictures, and far too much reliance on canned condensed soup. Which I refuse to buy or use. Also, the index does not include all recipes that use a specific ingredient (i.e. zucchini), making it less than useful when trying to decide what to cook with what you have. Also, the recipes don't specify what size slow cooker to use, and this really does matter. I did manage to get a few recipes that did what I needed them to do, but this isn't a book I'd likely consult much in the future.

This is an excellent resource for crock pot cooking. Being able to assemble dinner in the morning and know it is cooking away and you don't have to worry about it for the day is a WONDERFUL feeling. It is also a nice way to cook in the summer as the crock pot throws off less heat than my oven.

I have been very happy with the recipes I've made, as well as the breadth of this book (soups, main meals, meat, ect.).

My one critique is that many of the recipes, while convenient and possibly tasty, lack any concern for nutritional content. In these cases, I skip the recipe or use the recipes as inspiration to craft something that I'm more comfortable with via substitutions or eliminations.

Tons of recipes for just about any dish or ingredient you could envision. With three recipes to a page, this book is packed. The author also includes tips, equivalent measurements and substitute ingredients. None of these recipes are fancy or gourmet, but all are easy and meals that everyday people would enjoy. A great book to start with, or just to revitalize your current crock pot recipes.

As is my request of all cookbooks, I would have loved a spiral binding and more photos! This would be a great gift for a new bride, especially when accompanied by a slow cooker.
