In the second part of her trilogy for adolescents, Isabel Allende managed something she failed to do in the first part which was to be a bit boring. This book is sort of a throwback to a time when teenagers were neutered innocents who didn't think of anything "naughty", be it sex or just mischief, and if the worst thing they'd get up to was disobedience in a good cause. This is more "Hardy Boys Meets Nancy Drew" than anything related to real teens. I don't believe any of these books were turned into films and there's a reason, in my opinion; they're laughably bland but while the first had sufficient twists and turns to be interesting, this was just dull and predictable.
