Ne sykį esu susidūręs su požiūriu, kad va, „Kopa“ tai buvo – oho!, o „Mesijas“ – pffff. Ten veiksmas! pasaulis! šai-huludas! Aaaaa! O čia? Refleksija ant refleksijos su refleksiukais. Kur pasaulis, jei neperžengiamas rūmų (na, ok – miesto) slenkstis? Kur veiksmas? Vienas peilio mestelėjimas – čia jums veiksmas? Ne, ne. Bent jau ne po armijų susidūrimo „Kopoje“.
Na, zyziat ir zyskit. Ką dabar. O aš papasakosiu, kaip aš matau. Realiai „Kopa“ – buvo savarankiškas, išbaigtas romanas. O pagrindą ciklui Herbertas pakloja būtent savo „Mesiju“.
Fremenų džihadas nusirito per visatą. Pasauliai nugalėti, pajungti šventai Muadibo valiai. Džihado kariai Arakio smėlį išnešiojo po kitus pasaulius. Bet visi procesai turi grįžtamąjį poveikį – kiti pasauliai taip pat prasismelkė į Arakį, į fremenų buitį. Visata keičiasi.
Visa knyga persmelkta NUOJAUTA. Ir taip, kažkas tikrai privalo nutikti. Ir, žinoma, nutiks. Ir anaiptol ne viską gali pakeisti Polas, tapęs naujojo pasaulio valdovu, vėliava, dievu.
Pavargusiu dievu.
Tvirti keturi iš penkių. Nusiteikite, kad gausite kiek kitokią knygą, nei pirmoji „Kopos kronikų“ dalis. Kitokią, ne prastesnę.

Son algo más de 300 páginas de trama política donde aparecen múltiples personajes profundos y con motivaciones bien definidas que me han atrapado completamente.

Aunque apenas hay acción, capítulo a capítulo se desgranan conspiraciones bajo ese velo religioso que envuelve al protagonista y eso hace que no puedas despegarte del libro.

Lo he disfrutado más que el primero de la saga y leerlo justo después de ver Dune 2 ha sido la mejor decisión del año.

n  "¡Si necesitan algo a lo que adorar, entonces adoren la vida… toda la vida, incluso la más ínfima vida que se arrastre por el suelo! ¡Todos nosotros formamos parte de esta belleza!"n

El desértico mundo de Dune fue lo que me atrajo principalmente a esta saga. No cabe duda que el autor fue un genio al crear un ambiente tan peculiar para su obra. Y, en cuanto a mi opinión de este libro, debo separarla en dos partes.

1– La primera mitad del libro nos resume lo ocurrido en la entrega anterior y, lentamente, nos va introduciendo en la trama del mesías de Dune. Aunque la historia cuenta con buenos elementos fantásticos, esta parte me pareció muy cuesta arriba, aburrida, extensa y floja; sobre todo, porque no se enfoca casi en el desierto ni en las habilidades de los personajes.

n  "Es muy difícil creer en el mar cuando uno ha vivido tan solo aquí, entre estas dunas. Nosotros no tenemos mares. Los hombres de Dune nunca han conocido el mar."n

2– Sin embargo, considero que la segunda mitad del libro es una completa y pura maravilla del género de ciencia ficción. ¡Qué cambio tan radical! ¡Qué final tan épico! En esta parte quedé fascinada con el poder y las habilidades de cada personaje, las criaturas que van desarrollándose dentro de la trama, los diálogos políticos y religiosos, y la majestuosa manera de Frank Herbert para narrar la historia.

En general, me ha gustado, le daré 3.5⭐(pero si tuviese que valorar únicamente la segunda mitad del libro, conseguiría 4.5⭐).

هل تتخيل قدرتك على ان ترى المستقبل و المسار الذي ستأخذه الأحداث !
هل تتخيل ان هذا المستقبل الذي تراه مٌظلم ومُدمر ؟!
ماذا ستفعل ؟!
ستحاول تجنبه ! أليس كذلك ؟؟!
لكن ماذا لو كانت محاولاتك لتجنبه وتعديله تسير بك في طريق آخر سئ ؟

ستضحي بالكثير من الحيوات وبالكثير من ذاتك من أجل الوصول لمستقبل آخر ولتحقيق رؤية تراها اقل سوءا من الأخري..
هل ما تفعله أفضل بالفعل ؟!

نستكمل هنا الحكاية مع بول بعد ١٢ عاما من الجزء الأول، أصبح پول آتريديز إمبراطور كوكب الصحراء أراكس ، تحت حكمه هلك المليارات بالفعل في محاولة منه لتغير ما يراه .
يتآمر حلفاء سابقون للإطاحة ببول من العرش، وحتى زوجته الأميرة إيرولان تعمل ضده.

فماذا سيفعل بول ؟!

n   أين بالتحديد وضع قدمه على بداية الطريق الذي أدى به إلى هذه الرحلة عبر ساحة مزدحمة في كوكب بعيد كل البعد عن كلادان ؟ هل حقاً وضع قدمه بمحض إرادته على الطريق؟ لم يستطع أن يقول انه تصرف في اي وقت من حياته من أجل سبب واحد محدد.كانت الدوافع والقوى التصادمية معقدة.n

يزداد تواجد اخته عالية في هذا الجزء بينما تختفي أمه من المشهد ..

وظهرت حالة جديدة وهى الغولة حياة التي سيتم إهدائها لبول بهدف تدميره ، وهو شخصية تم إعادتها من الموت فمن هي هذه الشخصية ؟ وماهي الغولة ؟ وما تأثيره على الأحداث؟

بول هنا أصبح تحت عبء انهم جعلوه هو وأخته آلهة مقدسين.. ورؤيته للمستقبل مخيفة فماذا سيفعل تجاهها؟

n  " هل يمكن أن النبوءة لم تخبره بالمستقبل بل صنعته ؟ هل كشف حياته إلى شبكة من الخيوط الكامنة، وحاصر نفسه هناك في تلك الصحوة التي حدثت منذ زمن طويل، وصار ضحية مستقبل عنكبوتي يتقدم حتى هذه اللحظة نحوه بمخالب مُرعبة." n

هذا الجزء كان أقل متعة من الجزء الاول ، النصف الأول منه خاصة تقريبا كان بلا أحداث ، بطئ ، به عرض فلسفي وديني وأحاديث عن السلطه وتأثيراتها .

n  "هناك حد للقوة التي يمكن أن يستعملها حتى الأقوى دون تدمير ذاته . تقدير هذا الحد يمثل البراعة الحقيقية للحكومة. سوء استخدام السلطة هو الطامة الكبرى. لا يمكن للقانون ان يكون أداة ثأر، أو رهينة على الإطلاق، او تحصيناً ضد الشهداء الذين خلقهم. لا يمكنك أن تهدد أحداً وتهرب من العواقب."n

مع النصف الثاني بدأت الرواية تصبح افضل قليلاً لكن ليست بجودة الجزء الاول ، او ربما هو فقط مختلف عن الاول ، ربما يطغو عليه الجانب الفلسفي بعكس الجزء الاول الذي كان ممتلئ بالأحداث وتغيرات الشخصيات وصراعاتها .

هنا نشهد في الغالب مخاوف بول وحزنه ورغبته في عدم الوصول للرؤيا السيئة التى رآها والتي لا نعلم تحديداً ما هي ؟! وهل هى اسوأ حقا مما حدث ؟ ام انه يحاول فقط إقناعنا بأن ما فعله من قتل وتدمير كان أفضل مما كان من الممكن أن يحدث بالفعل ؟!

يبدو أن فرانك هربرت يحب أن ينهي رواياته بإبداع فرغم عدم إنبهاري بهذا الجزء إلا ان أشياء من الجزء الاخير في الرواية كانت مبدعة.

Me gustó menos que el primero, en especial en cuanto a historia y trama en general, pero sigo amando estos libros y su prosa. Me encanta los temas que toca, que toda la "acción" sea a nivel mental, que interacciones tan pequeñas contengan detalles que pueden alterarlo todo.

Paul es el mesías de Dune, el Emperador y millones de vidas están bajo su mandato. Es por esto que distintas fuerzas se unen para derrocarlo y acabar con su poder.

"Como todos los sacerdotes, tú aprendiste muy pronto a llamar a la verdad herejía"

Honestamente, no hay mucho más que pueda decir sobre la trama porque es eso, es la vida 12 años después del final del primer libro con Paul viviendo casi como un dios, al mismo tiempo que él mismo ve el desenlace de todo lo que construyó. Hay un aire melancólico a lo largo de todo el libro, porque, al igual que con el anterior, sabemos desde el inicio lo que pasará, aunque no tanto el cómo. Es por esto que se me hizo mucho más triste, en especial el final, a pesar de que era algo que me dijeron que ocurriría.

"Nuestras hostilidades son mejores cuando no atraviesan nuestras bocas"

El personaje de Paul me encanta, es este mesías creado, que tiene más poder del que pidió, pero que al final tenía que usarlo para salvarse y a los que quería. Eso es lo lindo de ambos hermanos, ellos no lucharon por ser quienes son, solo lo aceptan porque no les queda otra opción para cuidar a los que aman. El viaje de Paul en esta entrega es angustiante, porque sabe lo que se viene y tiene que escoger por el camino menos malo, el que haga sufrir menos a los demás y a él y, al mismo tiempo, mantenga lo que creó.

"No existe ninguna separación entre dioses y hombres; los unos se mezclan suave y ocasionalmente en los otros"

Es cierto que no tenemos Dama Jessica en esta entrega y que Chani toma un papel más secundario, importante tipo Lois Lane con Superman, pero no importante por sí misma. Aun así, me gustó la relación que mantuvo con Paul durante todo el libro, el amor que se tenían. Alia llega a compensar los personajes femeninos, aunque sí que esperaba un poco más de ella. Todavía no termina de mostrar todo lo que puede ser o hacer. Me gustó mucho el momento en que se ve su fragilidad, en el que se ve que, a pesar de todo, sigue siendo una joven que se siente sola, porque lo es por más que su mente sea la de una diosa.

"—Tenemos la eternidad, mi amor.
—Tú tienes la eternidad. Yo tan solo tengo el ahora.
—Pero esto es la eternidad."

Sé que estos libros no tienen acción como tal salvo en momentos precisos y, de hecho, este casi no tiene. En Dune se narraban algunas batallas cuerpo a cuerpo, acá solo escenas cortas. Sin embargo, me gusta ese aspecto. Al final los personajes más importantes destacan por sus mentes, no por sus habilidades físicas (que sí que las tienen la mayoría), por lo que parece lógico que la "acción" ocurra a este mismo nivel. Las batallas de este libro son batallas de voluntades, de futuros que se esconden, interpretan y malinterpretan. Las batallas de Paul venían en cada decisión que tomaba, en cada coste que estas tenían para él y su vida. Lo mismo con Duncan o Alia, sus batallas eran internas y cuando involucraban a otros era a un nivel mental también, entender las intenciones del otro sin dejar ver las propias o cosas así. Ese es el tipo de acción que tiene el libro.

El tema de los dioses y mesías me fascinó, sobre todo porque en Dune era un inicio, el inicio de una leyenda. Sin embargo, ahora vemos la realidad detrás, los costes que tiene y cómo todo imperio siempre tiene detractores. Ningún imperio ni gobierno es perfecto, ni siquiera uno liderado por un mesías. Extrañé un poco el tema del planeta como tal, que sí que era importante en el primer libro, pero entiendo el cambio de foco que tenía esta segunda entrega. Además, era considerablemente más corta.

"Cuando uno se convierte en divinidad, pierde todo control sobre su cualidad de dios"

El mesías de Dune es lo que su nombre dice, la historia de Paul como el mesías y los costes que conllevó el camino que escogió (y le fue escogido). El mito del mesías y las luchas a las que tiene que enfrentarse con aquellos que quieren hacerle daño y consigo mismo, y los costes de cada decisión que toma. Un libro incluso más introspectivo que el primero.

"La carne se rinde, pensó. La eternidad se retira. Nuestros cuerpos agitan brevemente estas aguas, danzan con una cierta intoxicación ante el amor a la vida y a sí mismos, se fijan con algunas extrañas ideas, luego se someten a los instrumentos del Tiempo. ¿Qué podemos decir al respecto? He sobrevenido. No soy... y sin embargo, he sobrevenido"

This was, like its predecessor, a gorgeous story. I’ve never read anything like this and doubtfully will again.

I read Dune 9 years ago, thought it was perfect and left it there. Since then, I’ve debated whether I should read the follow up. I had two fears, one, that it would not be as good as the 1st in the series and, two, that things will go very badly for Paul and his Jihad. I was right on both accounts. On Saturday, I saw Dune 2 which was a masterpiece. In its aftermath, I was elated and then I felt a deep sadness and emptiness. When I read that Villeneuve almost finished the script for the 3rd Part, I decided to take the plunge and read Dune Messiah. I am content with my decision, although it wasn’t as good as the first and I felt depressed all the time I was reading it.

“No matter how exotic human civilization becomes, no matter the developments of life and society nor the complexity of the machine/human interface, there always come interludes of lonely power when the course of humankind, the very future of humankind, depends upon the relatively simple actions of single individuals.”

This review contains spoilers for Dune and minor ones for this novel.

Many complained that this is a boring book and that nothing happens in it. I fully disagree. Oh, the novel has problems but not these ones. I mean, ok, if you expect epic battles, you won’t find them in here. What you will find are plots over plots and a lot of internal struggle. It was not boring, I mean you do not need a large attention span to finish this book. It is a lot shorter than its predecessor and a fast read.

The novel starts 12 years after the events in Dune. Paul Atreides is now the Emperor, the most powerful man in the Universe and he feels very, very unhappy and guilty. “To endure oneself may be the hardest task in the universe. There’s no writ of inquest or calling of witnesses to provide answers. No servant—or disciple—can dress the wound. You dress it yourself or continue bleeding for all to see.” At around 40%, we find the hard facts of his discontent: “Statistics: at a conservative estimate, I’ve killed sixty-one billion, sterilized ninety planets, completely demoralized five hundred others. I’ve wiped out the followers of forty religions”. A feat hard to achieve in terms of destruction. His only comfort is that “he had seen enough alternate Timelines to know of worse possibilities than accepting godhead for himself. Much worse.”

“You can’t stop a mental epidemic. It leaps from person to person across parsecs. It’s overwhelmingly contagious. It strikes at the unprotected side, in the place where we lodge the fragments of other such plagues. Who can stop such a thing? Muad’Dib hasn’t the antidote. The thing has roots in chaos. Can orders reach there?”

Paul is not the only one with issues. Many of the remaining powers try to kill him and even part of the Fremen are unhappy about the way their world changed, now that they have time to think. “Empires do not suffer emptiness of purpose at the time of their creation. It is when they have become established that aims are lost and replaced by vague ritual.”

The Bene Gesserit Reverent mother, Scytale, a face Dancer Bene Tleilax, a guild navigator and empress Irulan meet to plot against Paul. They sent him a gift, a Ghola, a sort of clone made of Duncan Idaho’s dead flesh. They somehow program it to kill Atreides when activated. Paul is unable to refuse to have his childhood friend beside him, even though the ghola retains no memory of his past life. At the same time both Empress Irulan, Chani, the consort are desperate to sire a hire to the throne. Irulan feeds Birth control to Chani in secret while Muad’dib refuses to touch his wife.

I confess that I’ve read the plot before starting. I wanted to know what I was getting into, my own power of prescience. Already knowing the plot, it allowed me to concentrate on the writing. I was able to enjoy the philosophic dialogues that I also appreciated in the original Dune, but also to see the problems.

By far, the biggest issue I have with this book is how the author wrote women and all the nauseous sexual innuendoes concerning Alia. I will elaborate for each character because it pissed me off. I was surprised by these choices since Dune had some powerful women.
•tIrulan: She was present only at the beginning to moan that she wasn’t getting it from Paul and that she wanted a child so badly. So much so that she decided to conspire with the enemy.
•tChani: Poor woman is only a cardboard character here, a submissive thing and only a vessel for Muad’Dib’s heir. I remember that she had some sort of personality in the novel so I was very disappointed.
•tJessica: The powerful Jessica decided she has done enough and retired on Caladan, letting her offspring to ruin the world without her. She only sent a pointless letter This is so unlike Jessica to stay behind and not try to scheme.
•tThe Reverend Mother had some interesting interventions until she suggested that Paul and his sister should mate to produce a suitable heir from a genetic point of view. Later, she is brought back for a diatribe against IVF. It really reminded me that this book was written in the 60’. Or it could have ben set in Alabama.
•tAlia. Ok, I will try to write this without puking. In this book Alia is 15, going on 16 and apparently on heat. At some point, the author makes her fight naked and when Paul sees her, he realizes that she became a woman and almost gets a hard-on. Grose. And then there is talk about finding her a mate, later she feels a “post-coital sadness” and so on. Oh, and Duncan kisses her. I understand that she has the memories Jessica and all the Reverend Mothers before her but still, she looks like a 15 year old girl. WTF Herbert?

The parts involving Paul, his internal struggles, the dialogues with his friends and enemies were all good, some excellent. They touched me and I felt sorry for him. I wanted to absorb some parts of this book inside me. However, I could not understand some of the author’s decisions. Well, as Paul said “There are problems in this universe for which there are no answers,” Paul said. “Nothing. Nothing can be done.”

Our bodies stirred these waters briefly, danced with a certain intoxication before the love of life and self, dealt with a few strange ideas, then submitted to the instruments of Time. What can we say of this? I occurred. I am not … yet, I occurred.
“We must not grieve for those dear to us before their passing.” “Before their passing,” Paul whispered. “Tell me, little sister, what is before?”
All it required was water … and love. Life changed those irascible wastes into shapes of grace and movement, he thought. That was the message of the desert. Contrast stunned him with realization. He wanted to turn to the aides massed in the sietch entrance, shout at them: If you need something to worship, then worship life—all life, every last crawling bit of it! We’re all in this beauty together!

Empiezo diciendo que me ha gustado, pero no al nivel de DUNE.
Para ser honesta, en momentos llegué a sentir la historia un poco tediosa y confusa. Ojo, nunca aburrida, pero si algo plana, falta de acción y emoción.

El Mesías de Dune inicia 12 años después del final del libro anterior, y eso me confundió mucho. En serio ¿hay algún libro o historia corta intermedia entre el libro 1 y 2 que debí haber leído antes? Porque les juro que inicié la lectura super perdida, sintiendo que había mucha información que desconocía y eso me hizo sentir que leía otra historia diferente a Dune.

Ahora bien, la historia gira en torno a Paul como Emperador y se centra en la conspiración que hay su contra para derrocarlo/matarlo, y por ende todo se desarrolla desde un punto político, religioso y filosófico, que aunque es interesante deja poco o nulo espacio para momentos de acción. No hay batallas, peleas; no hay acción en el desierto, tal vez uno o dos momentos nada más. Extrañé a algunos personajes que ya no aparecen en este libro como a la Dama Jessica y a Gurney Halleck, pero en contraparte vemos el peso que adquiere Alia en la historia. También extrañé muchísimo que no hubiera capítulos donde pudiéramos ver a los gusanos de arena... sí, tal vez los mencionan pero nada más, y eran precisamente los gusanos los que desde DUNE habían captado mi atención sobremanera.

Insisto, no es un mal libro. Me ha gustado pero quería más.

Never has my fickle reader's heart been as frustrated and wrenched as it was while reading Dune Messiah. I must have put it down and swore not to pick it up again at least three or four times, but if you know anything about Dune, that's a declaration you can't follow through on. The Dune Chronicles just keeps getting better and better, this was probably Paul's greatest test, and damn, what a prolific writer Frank Herbert is, telling us the reader exactly what evil is being planned against the Atriedes and letting us hope and trust Paul's prescience to get him through it all. What a Bravo ending after such a trying tour de force of a build up. It's sad what happens to Channi and to Paul himself, but the sadness doesn't take away from the masterpiece that's the rest of the novel. It's written so well you almost accept it as a kindness.
This is a book, like Paul Atriedes himself, that I won't forget, not for a long time. A masterpiece.
