Absolutely beautiful story with a deeper message! One of my favorites so far, and definitely recommended if you’re interested in self-growth and spirituality.

Net zo goed als het eerste deel. Misschien zelf beter. In iedere geval meer praktisch toepasbare tips. Dit boek ga ik meermaals herlezen. Heerlijke schrijfstijl en een fantastische boodschap.

Queue this book on repeat. One of those books that only finds you at the “right time”. Mama Chia spits straight fire, line after line.

The story follows the spiritual journey of a middle-aged divorced father who is lost in his life and searching for meaning. He follows a vague lead and locates a shaman in Hawaii. He goes through multiple trials and tribulations while journeying through the seven chakras of the being.

This is the second book in a 3 book series (and I have read neither of the other two). This one was recommended to me by a good friend, and I would highly recommend to those exploring their own inner world.

I have read Millman's first book, The Way of the Peaceful Warrior, at least three times, and it just gets better every time. Right now I'm hoping that I'll feel the same way about n  Sacred Journey of the Peaceful Warriorn in the future. I enjoyed the quotes, and the character of Mama Chia, but I somehow didn't quite buy the transformation that happened in Dan's character. The visions and stories didn't make as much sense to me, either.

These impressions could stem from my own spiritual experience-- I definitely think I'm still on the "lower floors" as Millman puts it, dealing with issues from the first, second, and third chakras. Perhaps once I reach the upper chakras, and higher levels of enlightenment, the text will ring more true. Right now, though, I have a little whiny voice in my head wondering if only Sacred Warriors who have the time and money to jaunt off to Hawaii can be enlightened? What about the laypeople like me?

I'd like to give this 3.5 stars. Good in a different way than Way of the Peaceful Warrior. Many beautiful perspectives and humorous points. Perhaps it's better not to compare the two. Sometimes in life we meet up with philosophies and ideas that are challenging to reassemble into a workable map, making it difficult to see how these ideas and insights align with one another - tho all fitting into the larger picture. However there are sometimes i get the sense Dan has turned into more of an author trying to make a living selling books than getting the real messages of his books out. For example in the "special afterword in for the revised edition" he almost undoes (in less than 3 pages) the importance of this book by making the statement "I've since set aside esoteric methodologies...." My feel is - once something is assimilated or accommodated into you, you can never un-assimilate or un-accommodate - it's part of you. It nearly undermines the point of reading this story at all to even make this statement. Rather what I might have said if I were Dan would be "the more I came to understand these methodologies it lead me to see spirit in day to day life - life became the meditation." These experiences seemingly added to him seeing life with different eyes; to then write it off in a sense seems self destructive - maybe that's Dans shadow side lol... If how he writes himself in the books is any fingerprint of himself, then I see his shadow as well in this. Call Ken Wilber and get to work on the shadow Dan ;) great seeing you in New York, you've definitely fine me a lot to think about!

Really solid, perhaps not quite as spectacular as Way of the Peaceful Warrior, but a nice continuation nonetheless.
