I've bee nsaving this book for a perfect time, and always imagined reading it in October. Tea with Jane Austen is everything I enjoy the most in life: tea and books. Austen is also one of my favourite authors (or one of the authors I've read almost everything by), and I've been enjoying reading about her relationship with tea. It was also interesting to read about her habits, history and tea in societies during her time. A cozy book that I would recommend to every Austen and/or tea fan.

Do you like tea? Pretty teacups? Jane Austen novels? If so then this book is a treat for you. It is actually a history of tea in the UK based on facts and on the information available in novels of the time. It also contains historical recipes perfect to be served alongside your perfect brew. And the illustrations are lovely.
Get the book, you won’t regret it.

As the result of several of my bookclubs meeting in tea rooms recently, I have become more interested in the art of tea, especially as it used to be. 2011 marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of Sense and Sensibility so it only made sense to read a book related to Jane Austen.

According to the critics, this is not the most accurate of books but it still has tea recipes past and updated for the present. The author describes teas as she believes they related to Jane Austen and her times, as well as to the characters in Jane Austen novels.

Some of the recipes are simple enough that I'll probably try them. Looking at the recipe, I have to admit that I was totally wrong about what exactly a "syllabub" was. Maybe sometime I'll even try one.

I'd recommend this book to people like me, who like combining recipes with narrative and to fans of Jane Austen books.

Great little book about the social history of tea and its place in society and literature in Regency era England. A refreshing book to read before bed time, I might even try one or two of the recipes in the book.

I found this to be a charming and informative book! I learned a lot about tea during Jane Austen's time in a lovely narrative-type style, not just dry, historical facts. I did not realize that the quality of tea was (or could be) so bad during those times and that tea often tasted like oilskin and/or horse sweat! Yuck! One thing I wanted to learn but didn't is why they referred to it as a "dish of tea" instead of a cup (or British cuppa)?

I liked the quotes from Jane's books and letters thrown in at relevant intervals as well as comments on her life. Also the illustrations were lovely and gave you further insight into that period.

I expected this book to be rather light and cute. Instead, I found it thoroughly readable and a terrific resource (I'm researching a novel set in this period). Recipes are included and, more importantly, put into context -- figuring out *when* the Regency English ate and drank can be trickier than *what*, since this aspect of the culture was in a state of flux. Frequent references are also made to contemporary works of fiction and nonfiction. I learned about several novels I'd never heard of.

Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about Georgian England.

This book states more social history and occasions for British tea drinking, with modern recipes and frequent quotations from Jane Austin's writing. I was looking for more technical information and accoutrements on tea drinking in Regency England.
