A very lovely and quick read. I learned some interesting facts about tea and how important it apparently was to Jane Austen as is evidenced in her writing. This book also includes some very interesting recipes - some that I'm inclined to try (Barley water and the Pound Cake) and some that I'm not.
Neat little book. Each chapter covers a different social setting as it relates to tea drinking in the era of Jane Austen. Thought the period illustrations were used well along with quotes from primary source material as well as fiction works by Austen and other period writers. Best part was the inclusion of recipes both in original form and updated for modern cooks- what fun. Colorful, informative with a wonderful sense of Austen's life, works and era. The writing is light and interesting. An extensive bibliog. and index make this a useful start for further explorations of the period.
This was a fun book on how Jane Austen took her tea and what she ate in the morning, for lunch, and dinner. There are some great recipes in here and I tried out the Modern Bath Cakes and they were excellent! Even better with some jam thrown on!
