Someone gave me this book, knowing I am a big fan of Jane Austen, and I assumed it would be a shallow treatment. It is a pleasure to read, with quotes from Austen novels and letters as well as from contemporary literature, recipes from that period as well as updated versions, and charming illustrations. I learned a lot.

Lots of fun! This book is filled with fascinating historical tidbits about tea, small details about Jane Austen and her family, and the favorite ways of taking tea in The late 1700s.

I thought this would be more a of a cookbook, but was pleasantly surprised that it was more an information based book on tea during the regency era and predictions of what Jane Austen (a self-proclaimed adorer of tea) might have preferred regarding tea. It was interesting to know that tea was taken with breakfast and again about 2 hours after supper. I imagined the high afternoon tea -- but that didn't come until the Victorian era.

Interesting read, a few doable recipes and a nice look at what Jane might have liked tea-wise.

Tea has always gone with my Austen reading so I enjoyed this approachable examination of tea both in Jane Austen's day to day life and in her novels. Most of the recipes of the book are fairly standard (and a few I wonder who would actually make them) but I liked looking at the history of tea in Austen's culture and how it developed into what it is today.

This was a quick read and I appreciated the information on how tea was taken in situations during Austen's time. I also liked that the old version of the recipes were included with the modern recipes. I did not make any of the recipes so I am cannot rate those.

I loved this book even more than I thought I would. it was as if the author wrote this book especially for me. I loved the history, the book references, the sassy quotes from Jane. I loved that the whole book is a love letter to my two favorite things: tea and Jane Austen. Thank you, Ms Wilson, for this most delightful reading experience!

Great book talking about tea in Jane Austen’s time: looking at types, cost, customs etc. There are numerous references to Jane Austen’s letters and novels, shedding light on the author and the world of her characters.

Light and readable, though I'd be interested in something more academic / addressing further in-depth literary analysis.

This book is fascinating! Information on the period, plus Jane Austen's letters, contribute to a wider understanding of how tea was part of her culture. It lends some insight into the already strong character scenes in her novels.

I was particularly thrilled to learn about counterfeit tea that arose from taxes on tea, and how navy members took their own tea on board--and had a goat for milk! The book is laid out beautifully with callouts and line drawings that offer further tidbits. It's a smooth and interesting read!

This was a surprisingly delightful read. It was filled with interesting commentary about Jane Austen's daily life and what tea meant to the people of her time. I can't wait to try some of the recipes in the book. I only wish I had a cup of strong Earl Gray tea to drink while I read this book.
