100% recomendado

I enjoyed Blink of an Eye! This story grabbed me from the beginning and didn't let go until the end. It is captivating and emotional. I admire Ted Dekker's perspective of the spiritual realm.

I borrowed a copy from my local library's inter-library loan program. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

First off, Ted Dekker is not qualified to write this novel. He is neither an expert in physics nor an expert in Saudi Arabia. It was almost insulting that he puts on the front of having deep insight into either. Second, the use of seeing the future as a plot device felt like a huge cop out. Dekker takes the supposedly smartest man in the world and instead of using his intellect, he uses magic to get out of the random sticky situations he finds himself in. Don't get me wrong, there is a place for magic in literature... It just belongs in the realm of science fiction and fantasy. The main character Seth is certainly no Kwisatz Haderach who can be many places at once. On a final note, the religious message of this book feels completely forced. The characters practically sit down and take a break to shove Dekker's religious views about Islam and Christianity down our throats. Now I don't mind religion in books, but Dekker doesn't even try to blend it into the story as thematic or symbolic elements.

Sure this book is a fast paced page turner, but that doesn't excuse it's many flaws. The 'story', while unbelievable is somewhat intriguing. But eventually I just got tired of checking my brain at the door, and no amount of story was going to make the book worth the time.

**Read for the 2019 Popsugar Reading Challenge - A book about someone with a superpower**

Unpopular opinion since this book has 4 stars: this book was neither fast-paced nor interesting. In the first 200 pages, here's what happened:

She escaped. He can see like 3 minutes into the future. They're on the run.

That's it.

I don't know much about the Muslim religion or culture, but it didn't seem like the author did either. I've seen several reviews from Muslims who are upset at how he handled writing a book about the Middle East and being Muslim, and it seems he got more wrong than right. Not only did the main character mansplain about being Muslim to an actual Muslim throughout the course of the book, he mansplained literally everything to literally everyone. The whole book was a "Muslim is bad, smart white guy is good" trope. I gave up somewhere around when he kissed her in order to get her to do what he wanted. She's able to escape her Horrible Evil Religion all on her own but needs his physical attention in order to survive? Nah. Not for me.

Bravo, Dekker. I enjoyed this book very much. The lesson here involves faith and prayer. Blink made me think a lot about the future and about how every action I take affects the future. By the decisions I make right now at this moment, I can help shape the future. Its really mind-blowing to think about, and I like it!

One of Ted Dekker's first novels, Blink, later changed to Blink of an Eye. While Ted Dekker has dabbled in many genres, and often blends several, I'm not really sure how to describe Blink. A mix of realistic fiction with some fantastical elements thrown in, Blink is in it's own category. It follows a man who can suddenly see all possible futures rescuing a Saudi Arabian princess forced into marriage with an evil man. The two must work together to stop a rebel revolt in Saudi Arabia of Islam extremists. If you think that sounds like the plot of a blockbuster movie, that's because it should be. Just because this book gets four stars doesn't mean it's not good, this book helped cement Ted Dekker as an author who would be around for a long time.

While the story line had the potential to be a great read, it was quickly spoiled and overshadowed by the author's agenda to shove his beliefs down readers' throats. This book left me feeling like I had just read a Christian Conservative political campaign. The author spends half of the story trashing Muslims and the Middle East in general and the other half promoting Christianity and America. It's blatantly obvious that Ted Dekker was not educated enough to make the statements he did in this "novel." I forced myself to get through the story, as I've never been the type to not finish what I started, and I was left with a horrible taste in my mouth. I'm just going to call this what it really is: propaganda.

I loved this book!!
An adventure, romance and a man and a woman's search for the Truth. It was incredibly well written, fast-paced, easy to read and easy to understand, plus a hilarious, frightening and edge-of-your-seat plot.
An atheist student (Seth Border) at a small college with an IQ of 196 (Einstein's was 160 something) who has discovered a strange ability he has to see multiple futures in the blink of an eye, runs into a Saudi Arabian Princess on the run from her family and her nation, who are attempting to trap her into an unwanted horrifying marriage (to an older man who already has numerous wives as it is).
They meet up miraculously and then continue on a desperate run from the people who will stop at nothing to kill her.
As they run, Seth questions the existence of God. And how could a God exist if he can see multiple futures?

Very thought-provoking and wonderful (despited some theological differences). I love this book! :)

The excitement I felt while reading this fast paced , heart pulsing and absolutely gripping story left me almost breathless. It was a thrill a minute.
Don’t be fooled by the first chapter, just carry on and you’ll see what I mean. You won’t be able to stop.
Great author, I must checkout whatever else he has written.
A must read for sure.

Book Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

# 37 Title Starts with your First Initial

Book: Blink (or Blink of an Eye)
Author: Ted Dekker
Narrator: Tim Gregory

This is my first stand alone Ted Dekker after reading a book he wrote with his daughter earlier this year. I enjoyed the book he wrote with his daughter, so that combined with the large amount of commentary from those who either love or hate his books, made me interested to give him a try.

So far, so good! I absolutely loved this book, and I can’t wait to try more of his books. I’ve lived in the Middle East, I found his representation of Saudi Arabia and the Muslim culture very accurate. I saw many complaints in the reviews, but I disagree with them, he was 100% spot on.

The entire dynamic of this book was so strange, but somehow came together so beautifully. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what Seth and Miriam would do next. I have to give Ted credit, I often find male writers have no idea how to write women. Miriam was well written and believable. He perfectly crafted her as a real woman struggling in the confines of a gilded cage. She was a princess, but a princess under a super oppressive patriarchal society, no easy task to endure.

The creativity behind this book, the clashing of cultures and beliefs was well executed and only added to the action of the story. The story was a pulse pounding thriller that was really hard to put down.

It was so hard to put down, I was reading this book, but ended up downloading the audio book so that I could listen when I couldn’t read! First time this year I’ve done that!

Overall, I highly recommend this book, this author and this narrator!
