I'll start off by saying that overall, I did really like this book. It was fast-paced, exciting, and kept my interest enough for me to finish it in one sitting. The two protagonists were likable and I found their stories compelling.

That being said, there were a few issues that I had with this book, which was my first time reading Dekker.

First of all, I didn't realize this was Christian fiction. Now, as an atheist, I'm not against reading books with religious overtones, and I've enjoyed Christian fiction before. But this book definitely felt preachy, and at certain points, such as in the shack scene near the end, I just couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to buy into the fact that their prayers somehow were able to solve all of their problems. I also didn't like that it seemed to greatly undermine the religion of Islam. I personally find that to be in poor taste and don't find it necessary to discredit one religion in order to promote the goodness of another.

I also had a problem with the logistics of Seth's ability, nevermind the fact that his extremely high IQ didn't really seem to serve any purpose to the story. The ability to see snippets of the future is a very intriguing plot device, but I found the religious explanation to be an unsatisfying one. Dekker could have fleshed that out so much more, and again, perhaps I could have been more okay with that had I known I was foraying into Christian fiction (nowhere on the book cover does it mention this genre; when my friend passed it over to me, I assumed it was a sci-fi piece).

The plot is thrilling, the dialogue is sharp, and the story was overall a good one. But for someone who is not of Christian faith, certain aspects of the story just weren't believable and ruined parts of the experience for me. I think good religious fiction of any faith can be done without preaching down the reader's throat.

I found this book highly entertaining. I enjoyed the fast pace chase aspect as well as information about the middle east and other cultural aspects as to how others view the world around us. I enjoyed the paranormal ability of the main character and thought the author did a great job of building romance without having to have graphic in your face sex scenes. As an author myself with a book somewhat similar with chase scenes, I may be a bit biased, however this book was right up my alley. A few places seemed a bit far fetched, but all in all, no doubt two thumbs up.

Fast moving thriller with Saudis and a brilliant paranormal student. Different because of the characters including a beautiful Saudi princess.

Interesting. New author for me, suspense and chasing with a little paranormal thrown it. Will definitely try others by Ted Dekker

I am still at a loss for words. This surely was a great great read! Remember that bungee jumping with a frayed rope? Dekker really is a master of story telling.!

I loved this book, especially the insight into the life of women in Saudi Arabia and into the Islam religion. It's also fascinating to watch a hero go from agnostic to atheist to believer.
