This book is fun to read. It's paced well, the characters are likable. I think it is a good thing that this book starts up a discussion about muslims and christians. There has been so much propaganda to divide christian and muslims. It's a good reminder that we're all people and no matter the religion, it's the same God. What sends huge red flags up for me is that people in their reviews of this book say how they "learned so much about the muslim religion" by reading this book. This book is fiction folks. This is a rewrite of the more christian version of this book entitled "Blink" and was made to more closely follow the movie being made of the book. This book is entertaining to read. The book is good in the way it starts a discussion about muslims and christians. If this book sparks you to want to go learn more about the muslim or christian religions then that is a good thing. But this book does not teach anyone about either religion. This book is fiction. Say it one more time, so it sinks in.......this book is fiction.

This is my second attempt to read Christian "fantasy" fiction this summer. I gave this book 2 stars (would have given it 2.5 stars if possible) because it was a quick read, had somewhat intriguing characters and for the most part, the story line kept me turning pages. At first, I was really into the story, but then the story bogs down as the author literally stops the action to discuss a brief and biased overview of Christianity and Islam. The book is full of stereotypes, lacks proper background research and does not dip below the surface of the very important topic of prayer. The author missed a great opportunity to develop and delve into the personalities of his characters. Dekker could have done so much more with the story line (especially the ending). Typical "storybook" ending. This book was OK for a quick, one time read, but I highly doubt that I will be reading Dekker again.

This was a crazy ride.

For someone who loves the discussion of free will and God's omniscience, the plot pulled me in instantly. Is the future truly open? If we truly have free will, does God know our future free choices? If so, then are they truly free?

I also enjoyed, at the risk of being politically incorrect, Dekker's brutal honesty about the extremism of fundamental Islam. Not that he painted all Muslims with a broad brush, on the contrary - he distinguished between moderate and extremists.

Finally, I enjoyed the journey the main character went as he processed the logical conclusions of agnostisism, theism and Christianity.

The story itself was interesting and a good read. But I think the black and whiteness of who the good guys were vs bad was too starkly drawn and the opportunity to explore moral gray areas was missed. Also Seth gave white savior complex. The romance was disappointing and in my opinion should have just been scrapped

Ted Dekker's "Blink" is a roller-coaster of a book; I had a hard time putting it down at night to get enough sleep for work the next day. You learn a lot about the treatment of women in the Saudi culture (abysmal) and the Muslim belief system. His main hero and heroine are eminently likable, and you cheer for them throughout the book. The latter is a brilliant, though somewhat naive academic, Seth Border, and the former is a Muslim princess from the royal house of Saudi Arabia, Miriam. Their worlds collide and Seth becomes Miriam's savior because of his sudden ability to see the future. At first, he interprets this to mean that God isn't omniscient because Seth is able to manipulate their future by selecting the one that works best to get them out of trouble. His reasoning goes that since he has the freedom to choose the future by his actions, there is no God. Then through the power of prayer and faith, both come to realize that Seth's ability to see the future is actually a gift from God, not a function of his beyond-Mensa IQ.

It was SO refreshing to read a current book full of suspense, with two people of the opposite sex escaping impossible situations together while falling in love, and yet through all this there wasn't one swear word, or anything that went on between those two people. I don't normally give 5 stars to books, but I was so amazed that there was a decent book out there, that I couldn't resist. And the storyline, although quite unbelievable, was fun to read.

Arranged marriages in Saudi Arabia may seem odd to American citizens but to them it's normal. But for Princess Miriam she refused, and fled to the U.S. right into the arms of Seth. Seth had just developed the power of clairvoyance, making him one of the most powerful people in the world. Together, the two narrowly escape scenes that are definitely "on-the-edge-of-your-seat" worthy...however, it dwindles off near the middle of the book and gets really complicated. For this, I gave it to two. I really wanted to like this book and it started out get, but then just got a little too complicated for me with all the names and titles and such.

This book is a slight rewrite of Dekker’s 2002 novel Blink. Unlike some of his later works, this story feels more like a whole story -- complete with character development, story arcs, and a decently satisfying conclusion. It's a strong testimony to the page-turning prowess that Dekker clearly possesses. Blink remains a clever, solid read that, while enjoyable, had the unfortunate side-effect of making me wish that Dekker would once again start writing more like it.

This was okay! It was pretty hard to read at times because of the injustice and brutality of the reality of a lot of Muslim women. It was very mind-bendy with all the futures/reality talk which made it feel kind of fantastical - in a not great way? And I just didn’t feel chemistry between the main characters. I don’t regret reading but I don’t think I’d recommend.

I'm not sure how to feel about this book. I found it strange how the character goes from being an atheist due to believing multiple possible futures disproves God, to suddenly believing in God. I wish there had been a better explanation as to why this occurred. He just says "nevermind" and we never really know what he saw. I also wish that the main characters had a better backstory. We never really learn much of what they're thinking as the book is mainly driven by dialogue. Their romance also seems to come from nowhere probably due to the same reason. Seth seems more arrogant than intelligent most of the time and he doesn't really do anything to make him seem like he has such an above average intelligence.

Leave it to my library to carry "Blink of an Eye" instead of its originally published title "Blink." From what I can determine, "Blink of an Eye" stresses loving ones neighbor (and being less hard on Muslims) then "Blink" (which I have never read and would thus not know). It was also supposed to be what the upcoming movie "Blink of An Eye" was going to be based off of.
A movie that never seems to have been made.
Anyway, the story was really good. I love Ted Dekker's writing, Seth is super-cool and the story is over-all awesome :D
