Livro facilmente confundido com a obra mais famosa de Aristófanes que é Lisistrata, por tem contexto parecidos.
A historia é um comédia curta e engraça que trata da tomada da tomada do poder pelas mulheres usando da sua astucia, e outros estereótipos não tão positivos do sexo feminino, contra os homens retratados como preguiçosos e pouco atenciosos.
Uma lição que se tirar, e que por traz de toda a tentativa igualitária coletiva, mora um interesse particular do líder.

A respeito da tradução, talvez a pior que eu tenha visto, com a tentativa de "adaptar" a historia para a linguagem actual, o tradutor mantém o humor original da historia, mas ele esta a criar um novo livro não traduzi-lo.

Exemplo das traduções:
"Lá vem a Esquerdina e a Reformilde!"

"1a. Mulher: Veja que barba linda!
2a. Mulher: E a minha? Parece a do Lula."

"É a minha opinião, por Nossa Senhora do Parto!"

"Virgem Maria! Vai falar bem assim na Bahia!"

Atina şehri erkeklerin yönetiminde bir şehirdir. Bir gün kadınlar artık bu durumdan sıkılıp yönetimi ele geçirmek için Praksagora'nın önderliğinde birleşirler. Kadınlar kocalarının kıyafetlerini giyip, erkek kılığında meclise giderler ve orada yönetimin kadınlara devredilmesi yasa tasarısını meclise sunarlar. Yasa kabul edilir ve artık Atina kadınlar tarafından yönetilmektedir. Kadınların yönetimi başlayınca Praksagora yönetimini sağlamlaştırmak için bir takım kararlar alır ve biz de kitap boyunca bu kararların toplumdaki yansımalarına tanıklık ederiz.

Oyun kolayca iki bölüme ayrılabilir. İlk bölümde yönetim değişiyor ve bu bölüm fazla politik olduğu için eğlenceli değil. İkinci bölümde ise kadınların aldığı kararları erkeklerin nasıl karşıladığı anlatılmaktadır, bu bölümü okurken gülmekten yere düşüyordum.

Sometimes I forget history and think “wow people are entertained by such degenerate humour nowadays.” And then I read an Aristophanes play and remember “lol nah we’ve been laughing at the same things for thousands of years.”

Bawdy as they may be, Aristophanes’ plays are also chock-full of uncomfortable political truths, and this one is no exception. The underlying premise is that democracy inevitably leads to the rule of the inferior over the superior, which degrades both. Tocqueville said the same thing millennia later, and looking at the current state of America, it’s hard to argue with.

This was so very stupid. I felt really embarrassed when I laughed about the vulgar and gross jokes. I didn’t even know I was able to understand that kind of humour.

At the same time I learned, that Aristophanes literally invented the Greek terminus “Ekklesiazousai” for “women of the assembly” because it didn’t exist (there was only the male version), so he was very Avantgarde. But since he only made the comedy up to be funny and win a competition, I doubt he’s in the position to claim praise for that.

This was my first Greek comedy, I usually read tragedies and now I know why.

Another poor play by Aristophanes. This time, the play deals with women taking control of the Athenian Assembly and enforcing that men and women can have sex, but only after offering their services to the old and unattractive.

The play unfolds in crude sexual language, and Aristophanes' terrible sense of humor is often evident. It lacks the strong critiques of politics and wars found in the author's other works.

It is quite amazing that someone back around 391 B.C. would be so brave as to invert gender roles in government and produce what is thought to be the first utopia in literature. Not only that, but managed to do it with humor as well.

En esta breve comedia, Aristófanes desarrolla con buen humor una utopía en la que las mujeres atenienses utilizan la suplantación para engañar a la Asamblea y alcanzar el poder, implantando una especie de modelo de sociedad comunal/comunista en el que la Polis se gestiona como un hogar siguiendo los cánones femeninos de la época.

La obra está dividida en dos partes muy visibles; en la primera vemos a las mujeres defender su modelo de sociedad y obtener el poder político gracias a un engaño y en la segunda se muestran situaciones (eminentemente de carácter sexual y humorístico) en las que se pueden observar las consecuencias de este nuevo régimen político.

30 Ιουνίου λεει το γοοδρεαδς οτι τελειωσα αυτο το βιβλιο 30 Ιανουαριου σημερα. Πω, πέρασαν ακριβως 7 μηνες και ακομα γραφω κριτικες για βιβλια του καλοκαιριού

Αφου ειδα το καλοκαιρι του 2023 την Λυσιστρατη στο θεατρο το καλοκαίρι του 2024 είπα να συνεχισω με Εκκλησιάζουσες, ακομη ενα φεμινιστικο έργο του Αριστοφάνη. Αλλά πριν γνωριστώ με αυτό το έργο είπα να διαβάσω πρώτα τους Βάτραχους που το είχα δει παλιά.

Γιατί, θα ρωτησει κάποιος, Εκκλησιάζουσες κι όχι Σφήκες, ή Όρνιθες ας πούμε.
Ε για τον απλό και χαζό λόγο διοτι σε αυτο το έργο υπάρχει η μεγαλύτερη ελληνικη λέξη που εφτιαξε ο Αριστοφανης συγκεκριμενα για αυτό το εργο.
Εκτείνεται σε πάνω από 5 στιχους και ειναι συνταγη ψαρικων το οποιο πιατο θα σερβιριστει στο γλέντι του επιλόγου. Είναι επίσης και η τελευταία λέξη του έργου. Ε και ήθελα να την δω γραμμένη, και στ’ αρχαια.

Τώρα πέρασε και τοσος καιρος αλλα θυμαμαι να παρακολουθώ στο γιουτιουμπ την παρασταση με την Αρώνη. Δε θυμαμαι το τελος αλλά θυμαμαι να βλεπω ενα ικανό ποσοστό του εργου.

Beware of your translation. This can get seriously raunchy.

I was thoroughly confused and offended until I read this commentary:

“According to Erich Segal, reading the play as a genuine exploration of female power is incorrect. It follows Aristophanes’ conflict structure of the republic in trouble, a solution suggested and that solution ultimately failing. Aristophanes’ plays mostly derive their narratives on absurd political and social innovations derived from the evolution of the state towards empowering effeminate men while displacing traditionally strong and masculine leadership. The ascent of women in political power in Assemblywomen is yet another commentary on what Aristophanes saw as the shameful effeminacy of the men currently in power in Athens. The fact that women in this instance could enter the assembly and successfully pass as men was a commentary on politicians being indistinguishable from women in costume.”

So I give him a grudging pass.

A good hearted comedy that satirizes the inefficiencies and incompetencies of the Athenian democracy in Aristophanes' time.
