ژانر نمایشنامه برام جدید بود؛ ساتیر. داستانش رو تو اودیسه خونده بودم و جذابیتش رو تا حدی از دست داده بود اما تفاوت‌هایی داره با اصل داستان. برای من بخش جذابش اون یادداشت آخر بود که دربارهٔ ساتیر‌ها و نمایش‌های یونانی آورده شده که خیلی مختصر و گویا اطلاعات جذاب و مفیدی می‌ده.

من چون از داستان های حماسه ای و یونان باستان و سبک باروک خوشم میاد از این کتاب هم خوشم اومد ولی در عین حال کمی هم بیمزه بود

در دنیایی نابودیم و گمیم که دیکتاتوری عظیم در آن حاکم است. در دنیایی که هرکسی بر به دست گرفتن چیزی برای سلطه بر جهانی دیگر است. سلطه ای سخت که هر روز و هر شب برای زنده ماندن میکشم خود را هردم، جان میدهم در ادامه زندگی و فردایی می آید و باز نظیر امروز و دیروزی دیگر. و دروغی که مدام می آید از سر زنده ماندن و خوب ماندنی که هیچکس نیست و زشت ساختن انسانی که بوده و بدتر شدن آنی که هست. فقط، فرق بین ما و این داستان در این بود که فرشته آمد برای نجاتشان و ما می رویم هردم ز دیار باقی و کسی نمی آید ...
کسی نمی آید ...

It's a satyr play, so it's got plenty of lowbrow drunkenness and sex humor that's only sometimes funny (my favorite joke in the whole thing was the bit in the opening monologue, where Silenus goes "Oh, my woes and sufferings are innumerable! Number one: I got stuck here when...")

But what fascinated me was the portrayal of Odysseus: Odysseus as hero, Odysseus as stalwart and brave and moral and good and loyal and honest. It's playing on a theme - civility vs. barbarism, duty to your crew and to the gods and to propriety and humane action vs. doing what you want, when you want to, because you can. And it presents an Odysseus who represents all the best virtues of Greek humanity against the instant-gratification self-important selfishness of the Cyclops and the crude cowardice of the satyrs. (Until the very end, of course, when he has to make his now-jarring, but necessary, boast of his name to the Cyclops.)

The poet who sort-of translated but more crucially rewrote the English had a lot to say in her translator's introduction about how these themes, the trifecta of boorish indulgence, selfish libertarianism, and duty to higher calling of civilized mutuality, were resonant to 1999 America with a lot of digs at Seattle yuppies in particular. Does Heather McHugh see the Cyclops as a Starbucks-going late-90s cellphone-chatting-in-public techbro? Apparently kinda. It was a fascinating lens on a play full of ancient Greek blatant theatrical contrivances.

But the more heroic, more dutiful and genuine Odysseus also put me in mind of the Odysseus from Epic: The Musical, and reading Euripides's Cyclops was slightly transcendent for all its dumb-to-uncomfortable sex jokes and obvious alcohol jokes in its place in the continuity of retellings, refitting and recasting scenes from the Odyssey to fit the desired themes, the demands of the performance medium, and the desire for the protagonist to be a hero. Cyclops was written a good 300 years after Homer composed The Odyssey. So it's been two and a half millennia of adaptations and retellings and performances. I think that's kind of beautiful.

Mjög skemmtilegt! Þetta er basically bara kýklópaþátturinn í Ódysseifskviðu nema hvað mér fannst Ódysseifur kannski ekki vera málaður í jafn miklu hetjuljósi í þessu verki. Fann alveg smá til með Pólífemosi… ég veit hann ætlaði að borða þá og var með þræla… en hann átti enga vini og vildi bara vera vinsæll!! :’)

Ha sido súper simpático y no me lo esperaba. Me han encantado el Coro y Silano, y es que no me puede caer mal Odiseo. Una monadita, lo recomiendo si algún día tontorrón os apetece reíros un poco "a la griega".

Mitolojiyi sevmeme rağmen bu kitap bana kaba ve anlamsız geldi. Bilinen bir olayın basit bir anlatımı denilebilir.

Homeros'un Odysseia'sının eve dönerken yolunu kaybetmesi üzerine yaşadıklarını anlattığı Odysseia isimli destanda kısa bir bölüm halinde verilen Kyklop(devler diyarına) adasına düşmesi ve kurtulmasını konu alan komik ve ironik bir satyrikon dramadır.

Eserde dikkatimi Odysseia'nın konusu olan ana karakterin lanete uğrayıp yolunu kaybetmesi Kyklops'da da Odysseia'ya lanetlendiğinin söylenmesi çekti. Bu tip ufak göndermeler aslında mitlerin ne kadar iç içe olduğunu da göstermesi bakımından edebiyatı daha değerli kılıyor.

Satyrikon drama?
Edebiyatımızdaki ve bir çok literatürdeki "satirik" ifadesini kaynağı işte bu antik yazılardır. İçinde veya başında bir yerde satirlerin anlatıldığı acı ama gerçek olayları konu alan ve ismi satyrikon drama olan bu eserler bugünkü satirik şiirlere ismini veren dramalardır. İğneleyici ve alaycı üslubu satirlerin karakteristik özelliklerinden dolayı ileri gelir.

Aynı zamanda Euripides'in Kyklops'u günümüze kadar ulaşabilen tek satyrikon dramadır...

Estoy leyendo las tragedias de Eurípides de una colección que no encuentro en goodreads y para empezar con la primera he tenido que leer un prólogo e introducción bastante denso y con mucho spoiler. Y aunque esa parte es enriquecedora no es para nada entretenida.

Como el libro no está acá voy a marcarlas como lecturas individualess.

Ahora pues la mera historia de El Cíclope es la misma historia homérica presentada en formato de teatro con diálogos cortitos, lo que sí es bastante obvio al ojo del lector es la comedia o ese toque nefasto o sarcástico que tiene el autor y que ha sido señalado por muchos intelectuales.

Troya seferi sonrası Odysseus’un yolu Kyklopsların yaşadığı adaya düşer. Kykloplardan biri Dionysos’u kaçıran korsanların peşine düşmüş olan Silenos ve oğullarını esir almıştır. Sonra olaylar gelişir…

Mitolojiye ilginiz varsa bu kısacık tragedyayı keyifle okursunuz. Takıldığınız yerlerde notlar imdadınıza hızır gibi yetişir.

İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları bildiğinizi gibi, notlar dipte değil de kitabın sonunda. Bunun dışında mükemmel çeviri, temiz iş.
