An exciting story awaits within the pages of this book, filled with some of the strongest characters in the Cycle to date. Feist has truly outdone himself with this group, and it's quite possible that he could have easily dedicated an entire sub-series to them.

This is the 18th title I've delved into within the RiftWar Cycle, and I must say that I've thoroughly enjoyed every single one of them. However, my absolute favorite series so far, by a significant margin, has been the Empire Trilogy. While "Honoured Enemy" doesn't quite reach those lofty heights, it is undoubtedly one of the high points in the Cycle thus far. I suppose I have a particular soft spot for the Tsurani.

I can already envision myself revisiting this story one day, eager to once again immerse myself in the captivating world that Feist has created. It's a testament to his skill as a writer that his works continue to enthrall and engage readers, even after so many installments.

What a truly remarkable installment within the comprehensive world of Feist!

It is an outstanding first book in the trilogy. This was an absolute delight to read!

It was filled with non-stop action from the very beginning all the way to the end. It introduced a host of new and fascinating characters, and provided a great backstory for one of the characters, which added depth and dimension to the narrative.

Additionally, it even brought in some unique perspectives from another race that exists within this world, further enriching the overall story. This book was centered around battle, and Feist executes this aspect extremely well!

The ending of the book neatly wrapped up a significant part of the story, tying up loose ends in a satisfying and well-done manner. Overall, it is a great addition to the Feist universe and leaves readers eagerly anticipating the next installment in the trilogy.

Easily one of the best Riftwar novels I've ever read. It's truly amazing! ⚔️

The story within these pages takes you on an epic adventure through a world filled with magic, danger, and heroic deeds. The characters are so well-developed that you can't help but become invested in their fates. You'll find yourself on the edge of your seat as they face countless challenges and battles.

The author's writing style is engaging and immersive, painting vivid pictures in your mind of the landscapes, the creatures, and the intense combat. It's as if you're right there in the middle of the action, experiencing every moment along with the characters.

If you're a fan of fantasy novels, especially those with a focus on epic wars and heroic quests, then this Riftwar novel is an absolute must-read. It will transport you to a world of wonder and excitement that you won't want to leave.

Läsning 2: It is partly extremely exciting and partly very relaxing.

Läsning 1: Just what I needed!

Feist is a wonderful storyteller. He avoids absolute evil in favor of conflicts of interest. The book is well-balanced and deals with the flight of two enemy groups from a greater danger and their cooperation during this. It never exaggerates and delivers an excellent genre story that emphasizes loyalty, group dynamics, and the smallness of man in relation to nature. The ending is strange but confusing.

I warmly recommend it to genre readers. It offers a unique blend of excitement and relaxation, with a well-crafted plot and engaging characters. The way Feist presents the conflicts and cooperation between the two groups is both interesting and thought-provoking. The emphasis on loyalty and group dynamics adds depth to the story, while the portrayal of man's smallness in the face of nature creates a sense of awe and wonder. Overall, it is a great read for anyone who enjoys genre fiction.

At the very beginning, I found myself not really invested in the story. It seemed rather ordinary and failed to immediately capture my attention. However, as I delved deeper into the novel, something remarkable happened. The story gradually and firmly wormed itself into me, captivating my heart and mind.

The characters began to come alive, their struggles and joys becoming my own. I found myself eagerly turning the pages, desperate to know what would happen next.

And then, there was the ending. Oh, how I loved it!! It was a perfect conclusion that tied up all the loose ends and left me with a sense of satisfaction. It was not only unexpected but also beautifully crafted, leaving a lasting impression on me.

Overall, although it had a slow start, this novel managed to win me over with its engaging story and wonderful ending. I would highly recommend it to others.

Honored Enemey is the initial installment in the Legends of the Riftwar subseries within the broader Riftwar Cycle. The books in this subseries are co-authored with different individuals, and based on this first book and the subseries title, it seems they all occur during the time frame of the very first book, Magician. This particular volume is co-written by William R. Forstchen, an author with whom I'm not acquainted.

The story centers around original characters that, to my recollection, we haven't encountered before. The only familiar faces I noticed were during the prologue. The narrative is heavily weighted towards battles, enemies, and vengeance. There is, of course, more to it than that, but these elements constantly drive the plot. Both the story and the characters took some time to win me over. I found it rather tiresome in the beginning, and I didn't care much for the characters at all. However, my interest gradually piqued after .

I couldn't detect a significant difference in the writing style of this book with Forstchen as a co-author compared to when Feist writes solo, aside from it being more battle-oriented than his other works typically are. Perhaps it also had a touch less humor, at least of the kind that made me chuckle, although I did still manage to laugh a few times. I thought it was a fairly solid story. It maintained my interest after the sluggish start, and there were some excellent moments that I truly relished. It just didn't have anything overly special for me, so I'm awarding it 3.5 stars but rounding down to 3 on Goodreads.

It took a significant amount of time to shift back to the prior conflicts of Midkemia.

This process wasn't easy as it involved reintroducing elements that had been somewhat overshadowed or lost in the passage of time.

The prior conflicts had a certain allure and mystery to them, especially the aspect of "what's going to happen."

As the storytellers delved back into these conflicts, they had to carefully balance the need to provide enough context and detail to engage the audience while still maintaining that sense of mystery.

It was a delicate dance, but one that was necessary to fully revive the essence of Midkemia's prior struggles and keep the readers on the edge of their seats, wondering what twists and turns lay ahead in this reimagined narrative.

Slowly but surely, the story began to unfold, and the mystery of what would happen next in Midkemia's prior conflicts started to draw the readers in once again.

4,5 Stars - Dutch Hardcover

This saga is about the worlds of Kelewan and Midkemia. "The Honored Enemy" is the first book of the trilogy; "The Legends of the Riftwar".

In this book, a group of Midkemians and Tsurani are forced to work together against a third party: the Moredhel. Throughout the book, Midkemian Dennis and Tsurani Asayage are compelled to have their men work together. This is not always easy due to the different mentalities and ways of dealing with certain things. Yet, slowly distrust gives way to trust.

The book takes place entirely in a period of the year when it is snowy and windy. The characters are very diverse. Dennis, the leader of the marauders, is a tough man who still dwells on the past in his thoughts. Asayage, the leader of the Tsurani, is a clever person who quickly realizes that if he wants to survive, not everything can be done according to the grand game on his home world of Kelewan. Tinuva, a moredhel who has returned to the elves, is actually the brother of the moredhel chieftain Bovai. Gregory is the man who views everything from a calm perspective.

The plot of the book ensures that there is always something happening, and the tension curve remains the same throughout the entire book. How the cooperation of the two groups ends is not unexpected. He remains one of my favorite authors in the fantasy genre.

This was my favorite of the "Legends of the Riftwar" title.

I truly appreciated the profound moral exploration of human nature it offered. Here, enemies were unexpectedly thrown together for the sake of survival. In the process, they gradually came to realize that the other was actually fully human, with both flaws and strengths.

However, the storytelling had its drawbacks. It was a little hard to swallow at times. I really struggled to suspend my disbelief in the ability of these men to survive the extremely harsh circumstances they faced. Moreover, the character interactions felt rather cliche.

Surprisingly, the character growth was essentially the whole plot of the book. As the enemies learned to survive together, they underwent significant personal transformations.

Overall, it was a nostalgic read though. It took me back to a time when I first discovered this series. And despite its flaws, it still had some really fun moments that made it an enjoyable read.
