School Rumble Band 01 by Jin Kobayashi

**Content**
Tenma is sixteen, sweet, clumsy, always optimistic, and hopelessly in love with Ohji Karasuma. To get his attention, she comes up with all kinds of ideas - from a thick roll of love letters to a wild bike chase. Of course, with so much effort, she doesn't even notice that the rough, motorcycle-riding Harima is crazy about her...

**Cover**
I actually found the cover quite appealing, which is why I bought this manga considering the interesting content text. Unfortunately, it didn't quite meet my expectations. I have to admit that one can really be easily misled by the cover and content.

**Personal Impression**
Tenma is a high school student and quite popular among everyone. Secretly, she is in love with her classmate Ohji, who hardly seems to notice her. However, the rocker Harima has set his eyes on her. While Tenma tries to make eyes at Ohji, Harima in turn tries to gain Tenma's attention. He even tries to break away from his rough image. But all efforts seem to be in vain, because Tenma only has eyes for Ohji and stumbles from one disaster to another in her attempts to confess her love to him... What can I say... This manga didn't deliver what it promised visually from the outside. Actually, I had expected sweet drawings like on the cover, but the content and the drawing style are... let's say they require some getting used to, because it just didn't convince me. For example, Tenma's crush Ohji looks more like a gray mouse and has no distinct features that one could even remotely understand why Tenma likes him so much. And her secret admirer Harima looks more like a serious criminal who wants to harm the girl rather than anything else. The mangaka really manages to depict the character of Harima so gruesomely that he looks more like he's in his mid-50s instead of having the appearance of a high school student. The content of the story is also a matter of personal taste as I see it. The actions that Tenma takes to impress her crush were neither cute nor funny in my eyes, but just embarrassing. One definitely needs a very special sense of humor for this work. For me, however, it's really nothing at all, which is why I'm going to stop this series with the first volume right away.

**Conclusion**
Not my thing, so I don't recommend it.

I have read this manga around in middle school, so it's been a really long time.

This volume is extremely funny, and my favorite character is the guy wearing sunglasses. He is just awesome! However, I forgot his name, as I mentioned before, it has been quite a while.

You might enjoy this one. I haven't bothered to continue reading the rest of the volumes. But if you have a penchant for comedy romance, then this manga is definitely worth your while. It offers a unique blend of humor and romance that can keep you entertained for hours.

The story is engaging, and the characters are well-developed. Even though I only remember bits and pieces of it, I still have a positive impression of this manga. Give it a try, and you might just discover a new favorite.

Boy, oh boy, is Tenma ever clueless? It seems as if she just can't get her act together. She has this huge crush on Karasuma and truly desires to be with him. However, she would never have the courage to ask him out directly. Nope, instead, she would rather engage in these little games, hoping against hope that he will notice her. But alas, he never does. Karasuma, on the other hand, seems to be completely absorbed in doing his own thing and doesn't pay the slightest attention to anybody else.

As for Kenji, I have to admit that I really like this tough guy. Although he is also clueless when it comes to matters of the heart and dealing with girls. What's really neat is the way Jin Kobayashi draws him. He is depicted to be much grittier and darker than the other characters, which gives him a unique charm. He always endeavors to do the right thing, but unfortunately, it never seems to work out for him.

I truly enjoyed the stories in School Rumble: Volume 1. I was really fond of all the many, quick chapters. The book is very well-translated, and the stories are simply a lot of fun. I also really liked the two bonus stories at the end of the book. These stories revolve around Tenma's younger sister, Yakumo, who actually looks older than Tenma.

Overall, I really had a great time reading the beginning of this new series. It has the potential to be truly excellent. I am really looking forward to seeing what exciting things will happen in School Rumble: Volume 2.

I rated this book an 8 out of 10.

This series is truly one of the funniest mangas that I have ever had the pleasure of reading.

The anime adaptation of it is equally great.

The characters in this series are extremely well developed. Each one has their own unique personality traits and backstories that make them come alive on the page or screen.

Their relationships with one another are both heartwarming and hilarious. The way they interact and the situations they find themselves in are often laugh-out-loud funny.

Whether it's the comical misunderstandings, the over-the-top antics, or the clever dialogue, there is always something to make you smile or burst out laughing.

This series is a must-read for anyone who loves a good laugh and enjoys well-written characters and stories.

Reminds me of Azumanga Daioh storytelling but I didn't find it as humorous. The way it presents the story has some similarities to Azumanga Daioh, but it just doesn't have the same level of humor that made Azumanga so memorable.

Upon rereading book one and reading all the way through to book 4, I liked it much more the second time 'round. The first time I read it, I might have overlooked some of the details and the overall charm of the story. But on the second read, I was able to pick up on more of the nuances and appreciate it better.

I did not like the time skips and how we revisited events from different characters' points of view, but much later on. The time skips sometimes made it a bit difficult to follow the story, and the way we revisited events from different perspectives felt a bit disjointed. It would have been better if the story had been more linear.

The drawing style was humorous and sometimes it felt way too over the top (esp the dramatic artistic scenes). But it was still amusing. The exaggerated expressions and actions of the characters added to the humor of the story, but sometimes it felt like the artist was trying too hard to be funny. Overall, it was still an enjoyable read, but not as funny as Azumanga.

A rather strange combination of romance and comedy, this book presents a situation where there is an abundance of unrequited love. The intention is that this will give rise to humorous scenarios, but unfortunately, most of the time, it fails to do so. It simply falls flat, leaving the reader with a sense of disappointment.

It is quite challenging to envision who the intended audience for this book could be. One might assume that it would appeal to those who enjoy light-hearted romantic comedies, but the lackluster execution makes it difficult to recommend.

Perhaps the author was aiming for a unique take on the genre, but in the end, it seems to have missed the mark. It remains to be seen if there will be a niche audience that can appreciate the oddities of this particular blend of romance and comedy.

The story is really funny because of the misunderstandings that are piled up one after another. It starts with a simple miscommunication that leads to a series of hilarious situations. However, as the story progresses, it takes an unexpected turn and the ending is rather sad. It shows how misunderstandings can sometimes have serious consequences and how important it is to communicate clearly. Despite the sad ending, the story still manages to bring a smile to your face with its humorous moments. It makes you think about how often we misunderstand others in our daily lives and how a little effort to clarify things can make a big difference.
