I had read the Earthsea Series and several other books by Le Guin during my high school days. However, Catwings had somehow escaped my attention. In this book, Le Guin manages to create a wonderful sense of wonder. The short tale of a litter of kittens born with wings is simplistic yet charming. One can't help but wonder what a mother would do in such a situation. And when it comes time for the kittens to stretch their wings and leave home, how would other animals react? What's truly astonishing about Le Guin is her ability to create numerous memorable stories that seem to have no connection to each other. Catwings is a quick read that leaves a lasting impression. It's a delightful little book that takes you into a world of imagination and magic.
I randomly checked out an ebook on a whim. The reason was simply that it was there and its title was "CATS WITH WINGS". And I have to say, it did not disappoint me at all. This is literally a wonderful book that presents a world of winged cats flying around freely. From time to time, the book also includes some cute cat noises, which makes the whole reading experience even more vivid and interesting. I would rate this book as A++++, and if I had to give a score out of 10, I would definitely give it 15/10. I have no doubt that I would read about these flying cats again. In fact, this book has truly changed my life. It has opened up a new and magical world for me, filled with the charm and cuteness of winged cats.
It has seemed to me a set of the most tender stories that I have read in a long time. Le Guin manages to turn a children's story into a book that everyone can enjoy, in addition to continuing to reflect her way of thinking in this story. For example, the criticism of the possession of reactions or objects, the little regard of this society for following the same destructive line or that although there is bad people, there are always rebels who follow the pattern that can save your life.
Another plus are the illustrations which, from my point of view, are magical, with a very black style because of how it is tinted.
Adorable is the best word to describe the book and if you have had/have cats you will love it.
