First of all, that is literally the prettiest cover of any Death Note volume. The colors are so vibrant and the design is truly eye-catching. It makes you want to pick up the book and start reading right away.

Second, is it just me or is Light losing his touch or something? I feel like he used to be way cleverer and more ambitious in the earlier volumes. He had such a clear vision and was able to execute his plans with such precision. But now, it seems like he's making mistakes and getting outwitted by other characters. I had complete faith in his ability to outwit others, but now I'm not so sure. I feel like some characters are constantly getting the better of him. And I don't know how I feel about the plot. It's still engaging and all, but I feel like it's sort of dragging at this point. There are so many twists and turns that it's hard to keep up sometimes.

But I'd like to take a moment to appreciate the art. This art style is so fricking beautiful and the details leave my mouth agape. The characters are drawn with such precision and the backgrounds are so detailed. It really adds to the overall atmosphere of the story.

The death of a character really broke my heart

I took a break from reading Death Note for a few months. I thought that perhaps, after some time had passed, I wouldn't miss L as much.

However, it turns out that I was completely wrong. Near and Mello simply cannot replace him. The story now seems rather bland. Light has transformed into a complete monster as even the death of his father fails to move him. He has lost the spark and edge that once made him such an interesting character.

Ryuk still manages to make me smile with his antics and his choice of "drug" :) But he's mostly on the sidelines now, not having as much of an impact on the story as before. I'll attempt to finish the series, but I guess I'll do it at a more leisurely pace this time.

I'm curious to see how it all ends, but without L, it just doesn't have the same pull for me.

L was different. L brought a spark to this otherwise dull narrative.

L's presence made me feel something, made me invested in what was going on.

But now that L is gone, it's as if all the life has been sucked out of this story.

I long for the days when L was here and everything felt alive and full of purpose.
