Still, this installment of the Death Note series is a good one. However, I can't claim that I was as captivated by this volume as I was with the previous three. The plot continues to surprise at every turn and remains as action-packed as always. But the addition of the character Misa was a disappointment for me. I had hoped for some strong girl power, but instead, I got a submissive girl who falls in love at first sight and is presented in an entirely sexual way. She also reveals previously unseen flaws in Light's character, causing my alignment with his cause to wane a little. He is dismissive, unconcerned about her feelings, and quickly writes her off as an 'idiot'. I have been completely behind his immoral cause because his underlying ideals were just. But now it seems that he is willing to sacrifice and use innocents and get rid of any minor inconvenience in any way necessary, even if they share the same ethics and principles.
The only other female characters in this series have been fleeting, and I feel that this is an injustice to females everywhere as the only real representative of our gender. The plot, as I mentioned, was as thrilling as ever, but I just couldn't overlook this unfair female representation. I'm still excited to continue with the series, but I can only hope that it doesn't contain more of the same misogynistic ideologies!
I vividly remember that in the past, I simply found Misa annoying. However, this time around, she is irritating as hell. It's truly remarkable how her character has managed to reach this new level of annoyance. But you know what? Despite all that, I still kind of loved it. There's something about her exaggerated and over-the-top behavior that makes it strangely entertaining. On the other hand, we have L. L is without a doubt the greatest. His intelligence, his deductive skills, and his overall presence make him a truly captivating character. Every moment he is on screen, you can't help but be drawn to him. He is the perfect foil to Misa's chaos, and their interactions add an extra layer of depth and excitement to the story.
