Death Note is an outstanding series that revolves around a plot device so simple yet so ingenious. If you have a penchant for complex and cerebral mystery-solving, this series is a must-read. It delves into the weightiest of themes in a captivating yet somewhat disturbing manner. The story has its ebbs and flows, but at least the first volumes are truly worth perusing.

The video linked above offers a comprehensive review of the entire series, encompassing volumes 1 to 12. It is completely spoiler-free in terms of the plot, but it does discuss the series' structure and arcs, providing valuable insights for both new and existing fans.

I think this setup has created a whole plethora of interesting possibilities that can unfold throughout the series.

At first, it took me a considerable amount of time to fully comprehend the magnitude of the number of people he was killing. It was a bit overwhelming to wrap my brain around such a concept.

However, as I delved deeper into the story, I found myself gradually becoming more and more engrossed. Now, I truly feel that I'm starting to get into it in a big way!

The anticipation of what might happen next keeps me on the edge of my seat, eager to see how these interesting storylines will develop and how the actions of the characters will impact the overall narrative.

I'm excited to continue following the series and discover all the hidden gems and surprises that lie ahead.

When I was in college, I had an insatiable appetite for manga, devouring countless volumes. Among them, the Death Note series was one of my absolute favorites. However, its quality took a nosedive when they introduced that strange manic pixie dreamgirl character, causing the entire series to crumble.

The Death Note series stands out as one of the darker manga I've ever read. It's truly a pity that all the attempts to adapt it into a big-screen production have failed. This is because it contains so many disturbing and sensational twists that I firmly believe it would achieve great success if the right team were assigned to the project.

Light Yagami, a brilliant high school student and star test-taker, crosses paths with Ryuk, a shinigami, or "death god," who is bored to death living in the shinigami realm, spending his days either gambling or napping. Chaos ensues when Ryuk casually drops his Death Note into the human realm and Light discovers it. Suddenly, Light gains power over life and death, and he envisions creating his own personal eugenics paradise by eliminating all the bad guys, psychos, and murderers.

This manga delves deep into a plethora of tough philosophical questions regarding good and evil. The complex cat and mouse relationship between Light and L is equally captivating. Both individuals are highly intelligent and believe they are fighting on the side of good, yet they are also extremely manipulative and willing to commit rather heinous acts in the name of justice. While many manga series fail to withstand the test of time, this one truly does. It was a joy to revisit one of my old favorites and still find myself being shocked by the unexpected twists.

I would rate this manga 4 to 4.5 stars.

Very good, very very good. This is an extremely positive evaluation.

I watched the anime years ago. At that time, it left a deep impression on me. Now, reading this series once again reminds me of the craziness of this story. However, as time has passed, I've also forgotten certain details. But it's really nice to be surprised by those forgotten parts again.

What an insane plot with insane characters! The story is full of unexpected twists and turns, and the characters are vivid and unique. It's not only a must-read for those who regularly read manga but also for those who don't usually read manga. It has the power to attract and engage readers from all walks of life.

**"Death Note: A Gripping Tale of Good and Evil"**

The "Around the Year in 52 Books Challenge" led me to this fascinating crime story. In the first volume, we are introduced to Raito (or Light), a 17-year-old who is not only the top student in his class but also among the best in Japan. However, he is not happy. He feels the world is corrupt, lacking truly outstanding and important people. One day, while lost in thought, he sees a notebook fall from the sky through his window. Driven by curiosity, like any human, he takes it and discovers it's a Death Note, where writing a person's name will cause their death.

This Death Note belonged to the shinigami (God of Death) Ryuk, who "accidentally" dropped it into the human world out of boredom, curious to see what the human who found it would do to amuse him. At first, Light thinks it's just a cruel joke, but he keeps it. When he gets home, he reads the instructions on the first pages and, after some thought, decides to give it a try by writing the name of a criminal shown on the news at that moment.

After realizing the power of the Death Note is real, Light decides to become a kind of God of justice, planning to rid the world of evil by assassinating all the current criminals. Of course, there are those who support and celebrate as the villains gradually die, but people like the police or FBI members don't quite agree, as it's still murder despite the intention. The police agents from all over the world decide to hire L, the best detective at the time, an odd character whose face has never been seen. All communication is through a laptop and an altered voice, but he can solve any case. He is incredibly intelligent. L, happy to help, sets out to test Light's patience, challenging and threatening him, which makes Light (whom they call Kira for "Killer") more determined to commit more murders and challenge L, both believing themselves invincible. From here, the story becomes a battle between good and evil, between L and Kira.

I absolutely loved the anime, and after reading the manga, I'm satisfied as it's very faithful to the anime. The story reads quickly, keeps you on the edge of your seat, makes you eager to know more, to know how it will all end, who will win in the end (even though I already know, it's still exciting), and I highly recommend it. The illustrations by Takeshi Obata are dark and disturbing, perfect for the story. The dialogues are precise and explain what's needed at the moment. The characters are well-developed, and although we don't fully know them yet as it's the first volume, we can understand the position and thought of each one.

A blast from the past!

I vividly remember reading Death Note years ago and being completely engrossed in its dark and thrilling storyline. I was so captivated that I ended up watching the anime adaptation several times. The characters, the plot twists, and the moral dilemmas presented in the series were truly unforgettable.

Now, I find myself excited to once again dive into this amazing story. It's like reuniting with an old friend that I haven't seen in a long time. I'm eager to re-experience all the excitement, the suspense, and the thought-provoking moments that made Death Note so special to me.

As I embark on this journey back into the world of Death Note, I can't help but wonder if it will still have the same impact on me as it did all those years ago. Will I be just as enthralled by the actions of Light Yagami and the mysterious Shinigami? Only time will tell, but I'm looking forward to finding out.

My first manga comic. Maybe I fell in love! It's genius.

The story was engaging and full of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. The art style was also amazing, with detailed illustrations that brought the story to life.

I found myself completely absorbed in the manga, unable to put it down until I had finished it. It was such a great experience that I can't wait to explore more manga comics in the future.

Overall, my first manga comic was an absolute delight, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a new and exciting form of entertainment.

My only comment on the Death Note - don't you ever give one to G.R.R. Martin...

The Death Note is a fictional notebook with the power to kill anyone whose name is written in it. It has become a popular and controversial topic in the world of anime and manga.

Giving a Death Note to G.R.R. Martin, the author of the Game of Thrones series, would be a very bad idea. Martin is known for his complex and detailed storylines, as well as his tendency to kill off major characters. If he had a Death Note, he might be tempted to use it to kill off even more characters, leaving his fans in shock and despair.

In addition, the Death Note is a powerful and dangerous object. It has the potential to cause chaos and destruction if it falls into the wrong hands. We should not give it to anyone, let alone a famous author like G.R.R. Martin.

Instead, we should appreciate the Death Note for what it is - a fictional concept that has entertained and intrigued us. We should not take it too seriously or try to use it in real life.

Unpopular opinion alert
Nope. I just can't do this shit anymore. I'm completely fed up and ready to throw in the towel. I've reached a point where I can't take it anymore, and I'm giving up at 35%.

This has been my worst read of this year (till now). It's been a real struggle to get through even this much. The story just doesn't engage me, the characters are flat, and the writing style is just not to my taste. I keep hoping that it will get better as I progress, but unfortunately, that has not been the case. I feel like I'm wasting my time and energy on something that just isn't worth it. I'm disappointed because I had high hopes for this book, but it has completely failed to live up to them. I'm now looking forward to finding a better read that will actually capture my attention and keep me hooked from start to finish.

2nd read - I had read this on iPad a couple of years ago and stopped the series somewhere one fourth through. Recently, I happened to purchase the beautiful box set for my son. He has read it already 4 or 5 times on iPad and wanted to own the physical copy. He was highly impressed by the books and urged me (nay, compelled me) to attempt it again.

I agree that reading the physical book is a higher level of experience. The slightly rough and gritty feel, the faint smell of raw paper and ink, and the physical pleasure of turning through pages all add to the charm.

I am thoroughly loving the story of a highly intelligent 17-year-old named Light Yagami. He happens upon the Death Note and via it, becomes acquainted with Ryuk, one of the numerous shinigamis (Japanese death gods). The story is full of twists and turns, keeping me on the edge of my seat.

I don't know when I finished reading it. I had a massive ebook of 109 chapters, each with 27 pages, and was under the impression that the whole thing would be boring. Only today did I realize that I have been reading all the volumes in continuum. So, assuming that I finished this book, I am rating it 4 plus. I loved reading it, and if I am correct, I have also finished Volume 2.

Wow! I last read this series when I was 13. The nostalgia is truly overwhelming as I am re-reading it now. It is just as good, if not better, the second time around. The characters and the story have a special charm that draws me in and makes me feel like I am a part of their world. I can't help but remember all the emotions and excitement I felt when I first read it.

Thanks to M for recommending this to me. It has been a wonderful experience to revisit this series and rediscover its magic. I am looking forward to seeing how it will continue to unfold and impact me. I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves a good story filled with adventure, mystery, and heart.
