Logo Toya Versus Fujiwara no Sai!

This is yet another outstanding volume. It centers around the event where Akira's dad collapses and is hospitalized. During his stay, he takes up Internet Go and unexpectedly ends up playing against the ghost, Sai. Toya Meijin makes a bold statement to Hikaru, saying that if he loses to Sai, then he, the Meijin himself, will retire from playing Go. This volume is truly captivating and engaging. I couldn't help but give it a full 5 stars. I'm really looking forward to reading volume 14 once I catch up with my other books from several different series. The story of Hikaru and his adventures in the world of Go continues to be thrilling and full of surprises. It keeps me on the edge of my seat, eager to see what will happen next. I highly recommend this series to all Go enthusiasts and those who enjoy a good story filled with drama and excitement.

Last volume, I found myself wondering “if” Akira’s dad and Sai would have a rematch.

Well, it didn't take long for that to be confirmed. There will indeed be a rematch, and a great deal will hinge on the outcome of this match.

If we were to substitute the sport or game with any other, the intensity would remain just as high. This is all thanks to the passion that Hotta, Obata, and Umezawa have managed to create.

Based on the contents of this volume and the previous one, it's extremely difficult to rate it lower than a 4-star. In fact, in my opinion, it's almost... almost a 5-star.

The art, story, and character development throughout the pages of this intense volume are truly outstanding. I can hardly contain my excitement and anticipation for the next volume.

I'm eager to see how the rematch unfolds and what new twists and turns the story will take.

It's clear that this series has a lot more to offer, and I can't wait to continue following Akira and Sai on their journey.

This is it!

The build-up that took over 2 years to set up, the best match of this series: The Meijin versus Sai!

Everything was headed for this titanic match-up. It almost felt that this was happening too soon. The series still had legs at this point, and it's almost a pity that this wasn't placed nearer the series conclusion.

Looking back, this was Hikaru no Go at its peak. The anticipation, the drama, the skill on display - it was all there. Sai, with his mysterious past and unrivaled Go knowledge, was up against the Meijin, a master in his own right.

This match was not just a battle of wits and strategy but also a showcase of the beauty and complexity of the game of Go.

It won't probably approach this height ever again. The emotions, the excitement, and the memories created during this match will forever be etched in the minds of the fans.

It was a moment in time that defined the series and left a lasting impression on all who witnessed it.

I really don't want this to end. It has been such an amazing experience. Every moment has been filled with joy and excitement. I will look back on these days with a smile on my face. The memories will stay with me forever.

But all good things must come to an end. And as much as I hate to admit it, this is the reality. I know that there will be new adventures waiting for me, but this one has been truly special.

I will cherish every single moment and hold them dear to my heart. I will regret that it is over, but I will also be grateful for the time that we had together.

Comment je vais regretter que ça finisse. This phrase sums up my feelings perfectly. I will miss it more than words can say. But I know that life goes on, and I will move forward with a positive attitude.

Celebrity Battle! This game is amazing and long!!!!
There were six chapters! It expanded to the world!
Although it was fun, I thought I played a little too much.
And then Akira's character... Well... It's not bad, but it always feels a little isolated from the group. Always has a slightly distant feeling.

This game really took me on a wild ride. The six chapters were filled with excitement and adventure as it expanded its scope to the entire world. However, towards the end, I started to feel that I might have overdone it. Maybe I was just getting a bit tired.

One thing that really stood out to me was Akira's character. While there's nothing particularly bad about it, there's just something about the way he is that makes him seem a little apart from the rest of the group. He always gives off this slightly distant vibe, which makes it a bit hard to really connect with him. But overall, it was still a great game experience.

Hikaru discovers that he will be participating in the Oteai, the rank promotion tournament, and his very first opponent is none other than Akira. However, unfortunately,

Now that I ensure to record translators, I find myself taking a closer look at those involved in creating manga. One of the pleasant things I discovered was that Viz took this series seriously enough to hire a Go consultant, Janice Kim (3 Dan), for their English translation. Well done, Viz!

It's strange to go back to this series after such a long time. There are even more adult (middle-aged and older) characters than I recalled. In this volume, their faces sometimes seemed a bit odd to me. Maybe Obata was just a little off, as every volume after this appeared fine. The artwork at the beginning of Sai and the Meijin's match was absolutely gorgeous.

I wasn't certain how I would fare, jumping into the middle of this series after a 10-year break, but I was quickly swept up by Sai and the Meijin's match. It was enjoyable to see all the other Go players around the world get excited about Sai and Toya Meijin's online match (even getting up early in some cases), not even knowing what the stakes were.

Now that Hikaru has become a professional go player, his very first pro game is against... wait for it... his long-time rival, Akira Toyo.

However, I have to deduct a whole star for the rather heavy-handed plot device. Just before the game, Akira's father, Toyo Meijin, has a heart attack. Seriously, Hotta? Are you really going to keep doing this until the last volume? How many times can you postpone the big grudge matches that the series has been building up to?

Well, since the Meijin is now in the hospital, he decides to play a little Internet go to kill time. Hikaru discovers this and arranges a game with Sai, who has been eagerly longing for a chance to play against the Meijin again ever since they first met.

After some negotiations, the Meijin finally agrees. And so, we witness one of those epic battles that the series has been leading to: Fujiwara-no-Sai vs. Toyo Koya Meijin. With the mysterious "Sai" back online, the entire go world tunes in to watch this online game between the two legendary players.

Admittedly, everything in this volume seems a bit contrived. Nevertheless, it's still a good story, and the art truly brings to life the "cyberspace" confrontation between two epic figures over a virtual go board. But Hotta really needs to find a new angle for the story. You can only dedicate so many volumes to one or two climactic games. Speaking of which, this volume ends right in the middle of the game.

So, the next volume has the potential to be epic, but it also has the potential to go downhill if Hotta resorts to another artificial plot device to avoid a resolution in the Sai vs. Meijin match.
