After seven long years of separation, Princess Sakura and Syaoran, the son of a renowned archeologist, finally reunite. Following the tragic death of his father, Syaoran was offered a place within the royal family's home. However, he felt that he simply could not accept this offer. Having carved out a name for himself in the challenging field of archeology, Syaoran makes his way back to Sakura's kingdom.
Sakura loses all of her precious memories when she touches the Tsubasa of an ancient artifact during an archeological dig. As a result, Syaoran is compelled to embark on a perilous journey through time and space in order to recollect her memories and save her. Along the way, he encounters two other space/time travelers. One is traveling alone, while the other has been banished. Their fates become intertwined as they journey through alternate dimensions.
The story is truly enjoyable, with the authors skillfully weaving just enough plot threads to keep the reader captivated. The series gets off to a great start. However, it does have a few flaws. The villains' motivations can sometimes be a bit unclear, and a certain amount of background knowledge is required to fully understand and appreciate the story. This is because the series connects all of CLAMP's properties. While the first volume is handled well, I hope that the authors don't overcomplicate things later on. Additionally, the author accidentally reveals several details that end up spoiling the villains' motivations.
You should definitely read the book XXXhOliC. While it's not essential, it is highly recommended due to its tie-in with this series. I have read at least a dozen CLAMP series, but this one is by far the best. The story is well worth reading for its creative plot twists and deliciously angsty ending.
