Izark succumbs to a strange and sudden illness, and Noriko struggles to assist him due to the language barrier. She has to mime her intentions, often misinterpreting what is said around her and reacting inappropriately.

But this isn't their most significant problem. Now that Izark is incapacitated, the robbers from the previous volume decide to strike and attempt to kill him before he can eliminate them. What ensues is truly astonishing. I won't disclose the details, but it showcases a remarkable revelation of Izark's character and significant growth for Noriko. The scared girl from Japan demonstrates that she can be more than just a helpless female constantly in need of rescue. Her actions are purely defensive, revealing quick thinking and great courage. I have high expectations for Noriko as the series progresses.

My only criticisms are similar to those I have for many manga. Occasionally, there is too much telling and not enough showing. For instance, a man who was severely injured in the previous volume is hurt again and exclaims, "My wounds have reopened!" Another time, characters prepare tea, and one character explains to the other as they are making it that it's to stay up late, almost as if addressing the audience rather than the other character. I'm unsure if this is due to the author or a poor translation. Additionally, the author includes several autobiographical comments in the panels throughout this volume. It's disconcerting and disrupts my immersion in the story. I enjoy reading author's notes at the beginning or short, fun comics at the end that discuss the author's personal life or creative process, but I have no interest in such comments being inserted in the middle of a fight scene. It also caused me to momentarily misunderstand the backstory on Noriko because it was presented in the same tone as the previous autobiographical comments. I almost overlooked the backstory, thinking it was more author trivia rather than relevant character history.
