This was an interesting series.

It was truly off the beaten path for me. I had never really explored this kind of genre or theme before.

However, to my surprise, I found it enjoyable in an odd way.

The storylines were unique and had a certain charm that kept me engaged.

The characters were well-developed and had their own quirks and personalities.

Even though it was different from what I was used to, it offered a refreshing perspective.

I found myself looking forward to each new episode to see what would happen next.

It was a pleasant discovery and made me realize that sometimes stepping out of our comfort zones can lead to unexpected pleasures.

Overall, this series was an interesting and enjoyable experience that I would recommend to others who are looking for something a little different.

I really enjoyed the expansion of the characters that was presented in the original Baum series. It was truly fascinating to see how the characters developed and evolved throughout the story.

Initially, I had high hopes of reading this series to my children. I thought it would be a wonderful way to introduce them to the magical world created by Baum. However, as I delved deeper into the series, I couldn't help but notice that there were some elements of sexuality that were a bit much for my liking.

Despite this drawback, I have to admit that overall the series was still great. The想象力 and creativity that went into creating this world were truly remarkable. The storylines were engaging and kept me hooked from beginning to end. I just wish that the authors had been a bit more cautious when it came to including sexual content.

Nonetheless, I would still recommend this series to others who are looking for a captivating and magical read. Just be aware that there are some elements that may not be suitable for younger audiences.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Wicked." It had a certain charm that made it seem more like an old-school fairy tale, which I truly adored.

The narrative was engaging, and it took me on a magical journey. However, I must admit that the ending felt a bit clumsy and hurried. It seemed as if the author was in a rush to wrap things up, and some loose ends were left untied.

"Son of a Witch," on the other hand, was a different story. To be honest, I didn't even really finish it. The story of Liir just didn't grab me at all. It was dull and lacked the excitement and intrigue that "Wicked" had.

The characters in "Son of a Witch" were rather unlikable, and I found it difficult to connect with them on any level. I wanted to give this book 3.5 stars, but since that option wasn't available, I gave it 4 just because of my love for "Wicked."

Overall, while "Wicked" was a great read, "Son of a Witch" was a disappointment. I hope that future installments in this series can recapture the magic and charm of the first book.

Gregory Maguire has a remarkable talent for crafting novels in an intimate manner that completely draws the reader into the vivid world he creates. His two novels, Wicked and Son of a Witch, are absolute must-reads.

In "Wicked", Maguire offers his own unique take on the story of the Wicked Witch of the West. While remaining faithful to the events of the original tale, he manages to carve out his own version in a whole new and captivating way. Elphaba Thropp, the green-skinned child born to a minister and his unfaithful wife, lives a life of obscurity. She attends college, makes friends, and then removes herself from society in a campaign against the Wizard of Oz to prevent the injustices he is causing. Maguire follows her life as she transforms into the infamous Wicked Witch of the West.

In "Son of a Witch", Lirr, a young man in Oz, is trying to find his own path. Suspecting that he is the son of the late Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, he is troubled as he searches for his supposed half-sister. Other events unfold in Lirr's life, and his story weaves a tale in Oz's history that he could never have imagined the significance of.

Maguire works his own magic in the writing of these two amazing novels. While telling a fantastical story, he skillfully weaves in elements of realism and true history. The reader can discover references and story lines that follow civilization, religious advancements, and other historical threads, giving the novels an interesting perspective. Maguire is not only consistent with his story lines and the history of Oz but also makes his novels a reflection of political and philosophical viewpoints.

It's refreshing to come across such a clever and original idea, and it makes one wonder what other great things might come from the same source.

I just couldn't finish the book.

No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't seem to get myself to care.

The story didn't grip me, the characters didn't come alive for me.

I found myself constantly losing interest and getting distracted.

Maybe it was the writing style, or maybe it was just the wrong book for me at the wrong time.

But whatever the reason, I had to admit defeat and put the book down unfinished.

It was a disappointing experience, but I know there are plenty of other great books out there waiting for me to discover.

So I'll move on and keep looking for that next great read that will capture my imagination and make me forget everything else.

I recently had the pleasure of listening to a podcast interview with an author, and I was truly captivated by their writing style.

The way they described their characters and settings was so vivid and detailed that it felt as if I was right there in the story.

Their use of language was also very engaging, with a perfect balance of simplicity and elegance.

I found myself completely immersed in the interview, eager to learn more about the author's work and the inspiration behind it.

After listening, I was inspired to pick up one of their books and see for myself if their writing style would have the same effect on me.

I'm excited to start reading and discover the world that the author has created.

I have a feeling that it's going to be a great experience.

A little darker than I expected after seeing the musical, but I really enjoyed it. It was fascinating to discover the stories behind The Wizard of Oz, a story that we all know and love. The musical delved deeper into the characters and their motivations, revealing aspects that I had never considered before.

The set design was also very impressive, creating a vivid and immersive world. The actors did a great job of bringing the characters to life, with their powerful vocals and engaging performances. I especially loved the way they portrayed the Tin Man, who was both heartwarming and tragic.

Overall, seeing this musical was a great experience. It reminded me of the magic and wonder of The Wizard of Oz, while also adding a new layer of depth and complexity. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the story or musical theater in general.

A book given by a friend proved to be a great companion during an airline flight, helping the time pass more quickly. This particular book is the second installment in a trilogy. Even though I hadn't read the first book or seen the play, Wicked, it was remarkably easy to pick up the thread and immerse myself in the story.

Essentially, this book delves into what transpires after Dorothy has left Oz and the Great Wizard has been deposed. The main character is a young man, whose parentage is a mystery - he may or may not be the son of the Wicked Witch of the West. His journey involves a quest to find a childhood friend who was ensnared in the political turmoil, and his gradual maturation into an adult.

Interestingly, it turns out that the Wicked Witch might have been quite popular among the population. The book also contains some thought-provoking social commentary on the seedy underside of Oz and the political intrigues that unfold in the struggle for power over the land and its diverse inhabitants, which include both talking "Animals" and non-talking "animals". Overall, it's an interesting tale, but perhaps not captivating enough for me to reach for the other books in the trilogy.

Wicked - Read 2010/9/19
Son of a Witch - Read 2013/11/26

Review of 'Son of a Witch' only: This book, 'Son of a Witch', is more likeable than its predecessor, 'Wicked', which is the first book in the omnibus. Although it may not be quite as challenging as 'Wicked', it still possesses the same level of intelligence, mordant wit, and salty use of language. The story is engaging and keeps the reader hooked from start to finish. I found myself easily connecting with the characters and their experiences. The author, Maguire, has a unique way of bringing the world of Oz to life in a whole new light. I suspect that I will go on to read more of his work, as he has shown himself to be a talented and creative writer. Overall, 'Son of a Witch' is a great addition to the series and a must-read for fans of Maguire's work.

I had initially expected this to be something quite different from what it actually turned out to be.

It wasn't an aweful experience by any means, but at the same time, it couldn't be described as great either.

There were certain aspects that I had hoped would be more outstanding, but they fell short of my expectations.

However, it wasn't a complete disappointment. There were still some redeeming qualities that made it somewhat worthwhile.

Maybe if I had adjusted my expectations a little, I would have had a more positive perception of the whole thing.

Nevertheless, it serves as a reminder that sometimes things don't always go as we anticipate, and we have to learn to accept and make the best of the situation.

Overall, it was an average experience that could have been better with a few tweaks and improvements.

But perhaps that's just the way life is, and we have to take the good with the not-so-good and keep moving forward.
