This book was truly very informative. It provided a wealth of knowledge about various aspects related to cats.

However, I firmly believe that there was a significant amount of information within it that the average cat owner will likely never have a practical use for.

For instance, it detailed all the different cat diseases in great depth. While this knowledge may seem important, in reality, whenever a cat shows any sign of illness, it is always advisable to take it to the veterinarian.

The veterinarian is the expert who is trained to diagnose and treat these diseases accurately.

So, from the perspective of the cat owner, much of this detailed information about diseases may not be directly applicable in their day-to-day care of the cat.

I was in agreement with a significant portion of the advice presented in this book. However, my opinion started to shift when the author began discussing litter boxes and the topic of declawing cats.

Let me emphasize this clearly: DO NOT DECLAW YOUR CAT! I can understand the inclusion of some information regarding declawing, but at the very least, the author should also have included an explanation of why it is an extremely terrible idea. Personally, if someone were to chop off the ends of my fingers, I would likely behave in a rather unruly manner as well!

Luckily, later on, the author did manage to redeem herself on the declawing issue by providing a valid explanation of why declawing is a bad choice. Nevertheless, considering the length of this book, I believe it is more likely to be used as a reference rather than read cover to cover. Therefore, I wish the information about declawing had been presented in a more prominent and consistent location within the book.

Overall, this book is filled with valuable advice for anyone who wishes to share their lives with a cat or multiple cats. It is a very thorough resource. The audiobook version is 17.5 hours long, which can be quite a commitment. I would suggest that if you are planning to purchase this book, it might be more practical to get the print or digital version so that it can be easily used as a reference whenever needed. Due to its length, I don't think this is the most accessible book available, and it won't replace my go-to recommendation for new cat adopters.

Nonetheless, I would still encourage you to grab a copy of Total Cat Mojo: Everything You Need to Know to Care for Your Favorite Feline Friend. It offers great advice on how to make your cat as happy and healthy as possible in your home.

I've heard about this book being recommended long ago. At that time, I didn't even dream that I would have cats in my life. I always described myself as a dog person.

That was until I realized that the things I like about dogs - that they come and greet you, are really happy around you, come to cuddle with you, and cuddle with you when you want to cuddle them - cats also offer, in heaps. Just not immediately. You need to earn their trust, and it's not given easily. This book definitely helped me realize 'a good way with cats'.

This book helped the control freak in me to prepare our home for adopting two cats, so that they have a really good and safe home. I felt that I could really rely on the advice in this book, and I didn't find it hard to follow them. They really seemed logical. Sometimes it was tricky to implement some details, but we managed through it.

Since my previous experience was only with cats who didn't have owners who spent much thought about what's good for the cat and what will fulfill their needs, I didn't know what to expect from the imaginary cats we would bring home. That's why I bought this book before we went to the shelter.

We picked (or they picked us, it's unclear :D) two cats. For both, we were told they need patience. One is cuddly but not too much, while the other definitely isn't a lap cat and will allow only a several-second short cuddle and that's it (he came from a home where the owners didn't have time for him and was even aggressive).

With the knowledge from this book, I even won them over. Because in this shelter, you have to prove that you're really prepared or experienced. And for the first one, there were a few other people interested in it, but we got it because I had read this book and took it seriously :).

I definitely have many thanks to Pam for writing such a useful and incredible book that really covers all the bases and can be used 'out of the box' and also as a reference when needed. Without the knowledge I've gathered from this book, we wouldn't have gotten our cats having no previous experience. The lady at the shelter said that she sees we're well prepared and ready. I even brought the book with us :).

Another book that brought revelations to me on another new level was The Way of Cats: How to use their instincts to train, understand, and love them, which is more focused on 'reading your cat'.

If you have someone who wants cats or just got them, or has them for a while but didn't think much about them, gift them those two books. And if they get it, their cats will be much happier :).

This book definitely exceeded my expectations and changed the way I look at cats. I even managed to nudge some other cat owners into changing their perspective and thinking more about what their cats need and enriching their environment.

With those two books as the main source of information, the results six months later are as follows: The first one sleeps for hours in my partner's lap and in our bed (usually on my head, started the first night like that) and offers its belly for little cuddling and enjoys being groomed (everything below the neck was a no-go zone when he came). The second one, I can pick up, bring to bed for cuddles. He purrs all the way and stays for 15 minutes of kneading my armpit. Oh, and he drools so much :D. Of course, belly rubs are also allowed, and sleeping with legs up is common. And I can come and shortly cuddle him, and he'll just start purring. Recently, he started to sleep in our bed as well, during the day.

I call this a win :).

This is truly a remarkable book that is filled with an abundance of information and valuable insights regarding your cat’s behavior. This manual is extremely precise and practical, encompassing sections on every aspect you could possibly be curious about. It covers choosing a cat, helping them adapt to a new environment, troubleshooting the litter box, selecting toys and learning how to play with maximum effect and pleasure, feeding, traveling, training, grooming, and caring for medicated and geriatric cats. I volunteer at a cat shelter, where I have the opportunity to interact with a wide variety of cats.

The more I understand them, the better our relationship will be. I consider myself a cat lady and I'm good with cats, but not every cat loves me right away. It takes time and patience. However, it's definitely rewarding when a cat that didn't initially like me ends up becoming affectionate towards me.

The author of this article has a wealth of knowledge and experience to share. She covers various aspects such as diet, behavior, mood, needs, relationships with people and other cats and dogs, and general health and well-being of cats.

Some particularly useful chapters include "Head to Toe," which covers how a cat communicates, "Sour Puss," which deals with common behavioral problems, and "Getting Gray Around the Whiskers," which provides information on what to know about a geriatric cat.

There's also a medical index in the back of the article for easy reference.
