The behavior of the cat is described in detail, including its postures, body language, and both good and bad moments of interaction with the owner. There is a lot of humor and insights when comparing the cat to a human, which makes the book interesting to read.
For example, the author might describe how the cat arches its back when it's scared, similar to how a person might tense up in a threatening situation. Or how the cat purrs contentedly when it's being petted, just like a person might sigh with pleasure. These comparisons add a touch of lightheartedness and make the reader feel more connected to the cat.
Overall, the book offers a unique perspective on the relationship between a cat and its owner, filled with charming anecdotes and observations that are sure to delight any cat lover.
First of all, I'm truly delighted to witness a human striving to better themselves by emulating the thinking of a cat. If more individuals were to adopt this approach, perhaps we could put an end to stagnation and progress towards a more elevated life form.
Think Like a Cat ought to be compulsory reading for anyone deemed worthy of sharing living space with a feline. Nevertheless, Ms. Johnson-Bennett makes a common misstep in presuming that people are cat owners. In reality, no one truly owns a cat; it's usually the other way around. This gives rise to a rather absurd chapter on choosing the right cat. Needless to say, it's the cat that chooses you. Do you seriously believe that a supposedly starving kitten, later named Maslow, simply ended up on your doorstep by chance? That kitten spent two days scouting the neighborhood for the perfect chumps. And the fact that it was on a day when the temperature soared to 110°F? Extra points for pathos.
However, the remainder of the book hits the mark. The topics covered encompass cat health (Brush me, Dammit!), the appropriate type of toys (interactive ones, please), scratching posts (essential if you don't want your sofa to resemble something from a modern art museum), and any other subject related to cats. This book should be mandatory reading for any novice aspiring to serve a cat, and just as crucial for seasoned cat owners victims, enabling them to rectify their past errors and avoid ending up with a hairball deliberately deposited in their shoe.
I hope you found my review enjoyable. If so, there's no need to send money. Catnip will suffice.
An almost overwhelming resource. I had always thought that I knew cats quite well. However, this book made me realize that I'm actually a terrible person when it comes to taking care of my cat. I didn't brush my cat's teeth regularly and didn't spend enough time engaging in interactive play with it. What's more, the last 40 or so pages terrifyingly catalogued every disease that could possibly befall your cat, which really made me worried.
That aside, "thinking like a cat" has actually been very helpful. It has helped me figure out why Taco does some of the weird or annoying things he does. The book also introduced me to the concept of clicker training. Now, Taco comes when he's called and doesn't start leaping for his food before I've set it down. This cat and I are almost on the same wavelength now. Although that doesn't mean we necessarily agree with each other all the time, at least we understand each other better.
I discovered this book to be of utmost assistance during the time when I was mourning the loss of my beloved senior cat that had passed away. It was truly a source of comfort and guidance. At the same time, I was also in the process of preparing to welcome new kittens into my life. This book provided really excellent tips on how to set up a home for these little ones. It detailed everything from choosing the right toys and bedding to creating a safe and stimulating environment. Additionally, it offered valuable insights into understanding how to manage a multi-cat household. It taught me about the importance of introducing the new kittens to the existing cats gradually and how to handle any potential conflicts or territorial issues. Overall, this book has been an invaluable resource for me during this emotional and transitional period.
We often view our cats in a multitude of ways. We treat them as children, showering them with love and care. We also see them as adults, respecting their independence. Sometimes, they are our friends, keeping us company during lonely times. In rare cases, they might even seem like enemies when they misbehave. They can be our confidants, the silent listeners to our secrets. And, believe it or not, we might even compare them to dogs at times. However, the truth is that we don't often enough see them for what they truly are - cats.
I've recently had the joy of becoming a co-owner, along with my fiancée, of two absolutely beautiful cats. These furry little creatures have brought a new kind of energy into our lives. As a first-time cat owner, I was in desperate need of some guidance. That's when I discovered this amazing book. It seems to cover every single aspect related to cats. It delves deep into how they think, which is truly fascinating. It also explains why they do the things they do, helping us understand their behavior better. Moreover, it provides practical advice on how to take care of them in all sorts of situations.
Since starting to read this book, I've found it to be incredibly enlightening and practical. In fact, I've already highlighted more than 160 passages that I found particularly useful. I can't wait to refer back to this overwhelming volume in the future. It's like having a comprehensive guide to understanding and loving my cats. I'm truly grateful to have come across this book, and I know it will be a valuable resource for me as I embark on this new journey of cat ownership.
