A really - VERY REALLY - thorough book about living with a cat has been written. It is so detailed that at times it borders on being tedious.

Regrettably, this tedium is necessary for those who truly want to have a cat or multiple cats and are sincere about ensuring the cats' quality of life. I had previously read this author's subsequent book which was dedicated to introducing new cats into a household, but I found it disappointing.

Despite that, I decided to take a chance on this book as it was available from my library, simply to see what it had to offer. And although my initial reaction to what I found was less than enthusiastic, I have come to realize that it is a useful and informative enough guide. In fact, I liked it so much that I bought my own personal copy for future reference and application.

I wholeheartedly agree with the author when it comes to a person accepting a cat (or any other pet for that matter) into their lives. One must be truly dedicated to caring for the animal. After all, if you're not up for it, don't get a pet!

However, my biggest issue with this book is that the author seems to assume that all cat owners have homes with ample space for separate peaceful areas, playtime, and even kitten delivery. This is simply not a realistic scenario for those of us who live in a city where space is at a premium.
