A truly absurd poem, "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carroll. It is a piece that defies all logic and convention. The words seem to be plucked from the author's wild imagination, creating a world that is both strange and captivating. \\"klsd\\"

This retelling of the classic nonsense poem has been reimagined within a basketball context.

The Jabberwocky, in this new version, is a huge and scary basketball player.

He towers over the court, intimidating his opponents with his size and strength.

The Vorpal Sword, on the other hand, is now a pair of basketball sneakers.

These sneakers are not just ordinary shoes; they are magical and give the wearer special powers on the court.

The artwork that accompanies this retelling is very bright yet ominous at the same time.

The colors are vivid and eye-catching, but there is also a sense of danger and mystery lurking within the images.

These qualities are also reflected in the way the original text of the poem is presented on the page.

The words are large, uneven, and brightly colored, adding to the overall sense of chaos and excitement.

For children, I think it would be extremely interesting to determine how they interpret the images and the words compared to the context of the original poem.

Would they be more drawn to the basketball theme or would they still be able to understand the underlying nonsense and playfulness of the poem?

It would be fascinating to see their reactions and interpretations.

Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll is an outstanding nonsense poem that notably features in the novel Through the Looking Glass. It chronicles the adventure of an individual's pursuit to slay the Jabberwock and the remarkable creatures they encounter on their journey.

I discovered the following explanation for deciphering the poem to be extremely useful.

Jabberwocky Syntax

To start with, let's consider the syntax of some of the fabricated words in the poem. This involves determining which part of speech they are - a noun, verb, or adjective, for example. The syntax can assist readers in understanding what is taking place in the work, even if the specific meanings of the words are not evident. For instance, here is an analysis of the nonsense words in the first and last stanzas:

Word Part of Speech

Brillig\\tNoun

Slithy\\tAdjective

Toves\\tPlural noun

Gyre\\tVerb

Gimble\\tVerb

Wabe\\tNoun

Mimsy\\tAdjective

Borogroves\\tPlural noun

Mome\\tAdjective

Raths\\tPlural noun

Outgrabe\\tVerb

'Twas brillig suggests that brillig pertains to a time of day. Slithy toves are likely a type of creature, and to gyre and gimble seems like a form of movement. Wabe might be a place or time. Mimsy borogroves are probably also a kind of creature. The last three words in this stanza are the most ambiguous; what are mome raths, and how do they outgrabe? To understand the meaning of these words, it is necessary to examine the semantics.

The remaining nonsense words in the poem are much clearer as the syntax offers more context. For example, a Jubjub bird is a kind of bird, just as a Tumtum tree must be a kind of tree.

Well, you get the idea. But this poem will surely leave you laughing and tongue-tied!

This is an outstanding poem that very likely should be compulsory reading for anyone who is looking to embark on a career in literature.

Lewis Carroll's remarkable talent for expressing complex concepts through the use of fabricated words is truly a remarkable testament to his literary genius.

His unique approach to language allows readers to explore new and imaginative worlds, expanding their own understanding of the power of words.

By using made-up words, Carroll is able to break free from the constraints of traditional language and create a truly original and engaging work of art.

For those interested in literature, studying Carroll's poem can provide valuable insights into the creative process and the limitless possibilities of language.

It serves as a reminder that sometimes, the most innovative and powerful ideas can come from thinking outside the box and challenging the norms of traditional language and expression.

I purchased this specifically for the illustration, which I came across during a thorough search on Pinterest. Graeme Base, an Australian artist, infuses the poem with an exotic charm that pairs excellently with the verbal ingenuity of the text.

Strange and wonderful beasts and birds cavort across the pages (gyring and gimbling in the wabe?), as the bold and youthful knight departs on his charger. Eventually, he comes face to face with the fearsome Jabberwock.

What else is there to express? If you have as much affection for this poem as I do, then I firmly believe you'll relish the vivid colors and lively nature of the artwork. And if you already possess numerous versions, I'm certain you won't have any qualms about adding yet another to your collection.

If you're not familiar with the poem - well, then you really should be. Go and seek it out. It's a literary gem that's sure to captivate and delight.

It's as if the boundaries between the fictional world of the poem and the real world of basketball have been blurred.

Ah, Graeme Base and Lewis Carroll. What a wonderful pairing it is! I truly believe that had they lived in the same century, they would have become great friends, especially over a frumious Bandersnatch.

I happened to stumble upon this book while exploring Jabberwocky. It reminded me of Base's The Eleventh Hour, which was my absolute favorite book as a kid. So, of course, I picked it up without hesitation.

The book was located in the library's children section. While this makes perfect sense given its nature, it's also a bit sad. Carroll's poem and Base's illustration combine to form a rich and engaging story that can captivate even the most curious adult.

Two pages in particular really caught my attention. The first is the illustration of the son waiting at the Tumtum tree with the background emerging foot of the Jabberwock. The second is Base's final picture of the Jabberwock's head mounted amongst others. Each of these puts a unique twist on Carroll's poem. Was the Jabberwocky just one amongst many others...?

"O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!" Both the poem and the artwork in this book are truly beautiful. They have stirred a creative chord within me. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to all.

This book presents a charming illustrated rendition of the Jabberwocky poem from Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There.

The poem remains intact, with all its nonsensical words awaiting your interpretation, and the illustrations serve as a guide to decoding them.

The illustrations in this volume are exquisitely painted, possessing an almost dreamlike quality. They vividly bring to life the magical beings such as the borogroves and the jubjub birds.

Humpty Dumpty traverses the pages, leading you through the story. At the conclusion, there is a section titled Annotations by Humpty Dumpty.

This part is an excerpt from the original book and features a conversation between Alice and Humpty Dumpty, in which he elucidates the meaning of the nonsensical words from the poem to her.

Overall, it makes for a truly curious and engaging book that combines the wonder of Carroll's poetry with beautiful illustrations and an added layer of explanation.

I really like the part in "Looking Glass" where Humpty Dumpty later explains what the first verse means.

It's quite interesting because his explanation actually makes it a lot easier to memorize the poem.

Even though the words in the poem might seem like nonsense at first, Humpty Dumpty gives them some sort of nonsense meaning.

This helps to create a connection in our minds and makes it more likely that we will remember the words.

It's almost as if he is giving us a key to unlock the mystery of the poem.

Overall, I think this is a really clever device used by the author to engage the reader and make the poem more memorable.
