I vividly remember the moment when I first read this 15 years ago. I was completely in love with it.

However, to be brutally honest, there is a certain amount of dust that has settled on these jokes over the years. Howard is undeniably brilliantly funny, but upon this recent read, I noticed that there is less of his history here than I had originally recalled.

Moreover, a significant number of the jokes and stories related to his radio show seem extremely outdated. The chapter dedicated to the wackpack was truly atrocious.

To put it simply, no one in that wackpack comes even remotely close to the current stars. It's as if time has passed them by, and their charm and appeal have faded in comparison.

Despite these drawbacks, there are still some redeeming qualities in the text, but overall, it has not aged as well as I had hoped.

I didn't anticipate that the prose would be outstanding. Instead, I was looking forward to Howard Stern sharing his story. And that's precisely what I received.

It is indeed a great book. It is not only humorous but also highly insightful. The author's ability to tell his tale in such an engaging manner is truly remarkable.

Moreover, it surpasses the movie based on it. Although I also took pleasure in watching the movie, the book offers a more in-depth and detailed exploration of Howard Stern's life and experiences.

It allows the reader to gain a deeper understanding of his personality, his journey, and the lessons he has learned along the way. Overall, it is a must-read for fans of Howard Stern and anyone interested in a captivating and inspiring story.

My 5-star rating is based on what I thought when I read his book back in '96.

One day, I was watching a TV show called TGI Friday with Chris Evans. He introduced a guy I'd never heard of, and in walked Howard Stern. He kind of dominated the whole segment. It was like the US's top radio announcer outshining the UK's top announcer.

I had an interest in radio, so I immediately went and saw the movie and bought the book. I really enjoyed both. In the book, my favorite chapter was titled "People Who I Hate." In it, he proceeds to stick it to various well-known people. This is an unusual and refreshing thing to do in an autobiography, and he especially sticks it to Oprah.

The book was a bit dated even in '96. Some of the things he describes Oprah as doing must be from the 80s, as I had never witnessed these things. So my point is, if Howard's book was dated by '96, then it must be completely dated now.

But look, Howard has remained pretty much on top. I wish I had access to all his radio interviews from the last 10 years because I view him as one of the best celeb interviewers. He goes where some people don't. He has probably mellowed now, but if you want a taste of when he was still angry and less old and have an interest in radio, then give this book a go.

It's interesting to look back on how things have changed since then. The media landscape has evolved, and Howard Stern's style may not be as shocking or controversial as it once was. However, his influence on the radio industry and his ability to connect with audiences cannot be denied.

Reading his book now might give you a different perspective on his career and his place in pop culture history. It can also serve as a reminder of a bygone era when radio was a dominant force and personalities like Howard Stern could make a name for themselves by being bold and unapologetic.

So, if you're curious about Howard Stern or interested in the history of radio, it's worth checking out his book. You might be surprised by what you discover.

The younger me loved it.

Oh, how I adored it back then! It was like a precious gem that shone brightly in my childhood. Every moment spent with it was filled with joy and excitement. I couldn't get enough of it. It was my favorite thing in the world.

However, the current me is rolling my eyes. As I have grown older, my perspective has changed. What once seemed so wonderful now appears rather silly or uninteresting. I look back at my younger self with a hint of amusement and a touch of nostalgia. But still, the current me just can't help but roll my eyes at the thought of it. Times have changed, and so have I.

I was working the phones at my church's rectory when I decided to read portions of this book. It was a quiet moment, and I thought I could steal a few minutes to immerse myself in its pages. However, I didn't expect one of the priests to walk in and catch me reading it.

To my surprise, instead of scolding me or telling me to put the book away, he said something quite unexpected. He told me that he liked Stern. I was a bit taken aback by this revelation. I had always thought of the priests at the rectory as being more traditional and perhaps not in tune with modern pop culture. But here was this priest, showing that he had a side to him that I never would have guessed.

It made me realize that people are often more complex than we assume. Just because someone holds a certain position or has a particular role in society doesn't mean they can't have interests and tastes that might seem unexpected. This encounter with the priest left me with a newfound appreciation for the diversity of people and their hidden interests.

I truly relished the commencement of the book. It had a certain charm that initially captured my attention.

However, as I delved further into it, it started to feel a bit dull. The reason being that I didn't have a great need to READ in detail about every little thing Howard was doing on his shows.

Rather, I found myself far more intrigued by the background details and the circumstances that contributed to making his radio show such an outstanding success.

Overall, it was a decent read, but when it comes to a comparison, I have to admit that I preferred the movie. The movie seemed to bring out the essence of the story in a more engaging and captivating manner, perhaps due to its visual and auditory elements that added an extra layer of excitement.

Nevertheless, the book did offer some valuable insights and perspectives that were worth exploring.

I was laughing so hard as I looked at the illustrations from the time when the people in the studio attempted to draw a nude model. It was truly hilarious. I had to take a moment to collect myself before I could continue reading. A significant portion of the book made me burst out laughing, not just a soft "hmhmhmhm" laugh, but a full-on, big belly laugh. It was such a joy to experience this kind of humor. However, I'm certain that not everyone will share the same appreciation for Stern's unique brand of humor. Different people have different tastes in comedy, and what makes one person laugh might not have the same effect on another. But for me, this book was a real treat when it came to finding something that could make me laugh out loud.

Outrageously funny, raunchy, and even sentimental.

However, it doesn't have as much validity after his divorce from his wife who suffered through most of his career with him.

The relationship between him and his wife was once a source of strength and support for him. She was there through the ups and downs, the long hours of work, and the countless sacrifices.

But with the end of their marriage, something seems to have changed. Maybe it's the loss of that stability and comfort. Maybe it's the realization that he can no longer rely on her in the same way.

Whatever the reason, the fact remains that his work now feels different. It may still be funny and raunchy, but there's a certain emptiness to it. It lacks the emotional depth and authenticity that it once had.

Perhaps he needs to take some time to figure out what went wrong in his marriage and how he can move forward. Only then can he hope to regain the validity and meaning in his work that he seems to have lost.
