This was definitely a significant change of pace for Patterson. It is not at all similar to his Cross or other detective/police thrillers. In fact, it reminded me more of a Dean Koontz horror type thriller. Perhaps it was written more by the co-author, Roughan, than by Patterson. That being said, the story did manage to keep me turning the pages, eager to figure out what on earth was going on. I'm still not entirely sure what some of the things that happened to Kristin signified, such as the music she continuously heard, the hives she would repeatedly break out in, and the cockroaches. Anyway, I still thought it was highly entertaining and, as I mentioned, it was a real page-turner. I read the whole thing in just a few hours, although not in one sitting. This unique blend of mystery and horror elements made the book a captivating read, and I look forward to seeing what Patterson and Roughan come up with next.
