A Clockwork Orange is a highly influential and controversial film, and its screenplay, written by Kubrick himself, is equally remarkable.

The screenplay is presented in this publication, accompanied by the black and white images from the film, frame by frame. Each character's lines are also included, of course, in English.

Originally published by Ballantine Books in 1972, this new edition unfortunately has some printing errors. There are cases where frames are incorrectly repeated, and lines are out of place.

Despite these flaws, the screenplay and the accompanying images still offer a fascinating insight into the creative mind of Stanley Kubrick and the making of this iconic film.

It allows fans and scholars alike to study the film in greater detail, analyzing the dialogue, the visual composition, and the overall narrative structure.

Hopefully, future editions will correct these printing errors and present a more accurate and complete version of this important work.

I was extremely biased, which made it impossible for me to enjoy this book.

I absolutely hated it. I loathed every single character in it.

Kudos to Stanley Kubrick for making the point he did. However, while reading it, all that crossed my mind was "Just shoot him already".

This book failed to engage me on any level. The characters seemed one-dimensional and unlikable.

Maybe if I hadn't been so biased, I might have been able to see some redeeming qualities in it.

But as it stands, it was a complete waste of my time.

I would not recommend this book to anyone.

It simply didn't do it for me.

Poor translation has spoiled the story.

Translation plays a crucial role in bringing a story to a wider audience. When the translation is bad, it can have a significant impact on the overall experience of the reader.

A bad translation may distort the meaning of the original text, making it difficult for the reader to understand the plot, characters, and themes. It can also lead to a loss of the author's unique style and voice.

Moreover, a bad translation can create a negative impression of the original work and the author. Readers may be less likely to explore other works by the same author or from the same culture if they have had a bad experience with a translation.

Therefore, it is essential to ensure that translations are of high quality. This requires skilled translators who have a deep understanding of both the source and target languages, as well as the cultural context in which the story is set.

By investing in good translations, we can ensure that great stories from around the world can be shared and enjoyed by a global audience.

A very welcome change to the ordinary layout of screenplay books has emerged. Here, Kubrick himself has meticulously chosen hundreds of stills from the film. These stills serve to illustrate and highlight the key parts as we closely follow the dialogue. As a result, it is a bit more expensive, but without a doubt, it is more special. The great work features a great style of dialogue borrowed from the cult classic novella. If you strip away the heavy layers of visual and auditory style that are more suited to the 60s, you will find a society that is becoming ever more familiar. It's like peering into a world that, despite its unique trappings, holds a mirror up to our own. The combination of the engaging dialogue and the vivid stills makes this screenplay book a truly remarkable and captivating piece of work.

This book was truly amazing.

At the very beginning, it was rather difficult to grow accustomed to the vernacular that was used. The language seemed foreign and a bit challenging to understand. However, as the story progressed and unfolded, something wonderful happened.

Gradually, it became much easier to follow and immerse oneself in the narrative. The unique vernacular started to make sense and added a special charm to the overall reading experience.

It was as if the more one delved into the story, the more one became attuned to the language, and it enhanced the enjoyment and understanding of the book.

Overall, despite the initial hurdle of getting used to the vernacular, this book proved to be an engaging and captivating read that left a lasting impression.

The experience truly blew my mind and had such a profound impact on me that it instantly made me want to embark on writing satire or sci-fi.

It was as if a lightbulb had gone off in my head, illuminating a whole new world of creative possibilities. The ideas started swirling around in my mind, taking shape and form.

Satire seemed like a perfect outlet to express my thoughts and observations about the world, using humor and exaggeration to make a point.

On the other hand, sci-fi offered the opportunity to explore the unknown, to imagine future scenarios and technologies that could change the course of humanity.

I was excited at the prospect of delving into these genres and seeing where my creativity would take me.

It felt like a new adventure was about to begin, and I couldn't wait to put pen to paper and start writing.

I'm sorry, but I really didn't get it. Well, to be more precise, I understood the language which was easy to decipher and get used to. The underlying connotations about not being able to make a society to suit one's means, free will, and all that blah de blah...

But still, I just didn't truly GET it.

I grew up in an environment where people discussed this book and film as if it were some kind of miniature cult of artistic genius. I always thought I should read it. The guy on the cover looked exotic, yet slightly scary, so I stayed away until adulthood. And then I always put it off, until finally, I thought I should delve in. What I found was a character I detested and a plot I couldn't be bothered with. However, I then began to enjoy the book from the point when the character was in prison onwards. I was overjoyed at the comeuppance he received, only to have the smarmy little bugger set free again with benefits.

Yes, it must have been awfully progressive when it was written, and ever so clever and thought-provoking. I gave an extra star for the intelligence of the author. But at the end of the day, I just didn't enjoy it.

I don't know which of the two topics is more worthy of discussion: the novel or the author of the novel! Both are amazing.

No matter how much I am amazed by the novel, I must first admit that I am not a good reader of novels, and my interaction with the novel is like a reflection of my personality, social, time, or place of production of this work, like a page where I read what the regular language cannot say, far from the laws of university classrooms, academic departments, and sometimes reason! And I truly believe in novels and personal memoirs as raw material for the world of the soul and society.

I also admit that what attracted me to read the novel - before I knew that it was among the top one hundred classic literary works - is its silly title: The Automatic Orange, as if I was looking at the cover of a children's story. This was something that could have made me leave the novel and focus on something "more mature"! But for a moment of transcendence, I combined with a gentle desire to get out of the routine and bet on something that seems silly, and that's what happened!

(I still look at the motives around me with haste and rush to judge, from just the first impression, and this is my third admission here, and this is something that must be hidden in the future)

The novel is a dramatic mixture of prison literature, memoir literature, mourning literature, and politics!.. And it is a work that talks about the political future of the British capital and its social reflection on the middle class, especially the young author.

Violence, opposite violence, hidden violence, the roots of violence, repentance, the search for salvation... all these are topics that the novel addresses in a unique and dramatic way.

In my opinion, the poles of this novel are human will and political egoism.

The translation is fine, and I find it convincing in many conversations.

This was truly a hard read.

I had no prior knowledge about this book before commencing.

Both from the perspective of a behavior analyst and as a compassionate human being, the utilization of pairing in such an evil manner was absolutely grotesque.

I awarded it two stars simply because it presented an opportunity for one to contemplate their moral code.

However, it was by no means a pleasant or enjoyable experience.

The way the concept of pairing was employed in the story was disturbing and made me question the boundaries of morality.

It forced me to reflect on how far one should go in the name of certain actions or experiments.

While the book did have this thought-provoking aspect, it lacked the entertainment value that would have made it a more engaging read.

Overall, it was a challenging book that left a lasting impression, but not necessarily a positive one.

I read this in high school and thought it was very strange. At that time, I couldn't quite understand the essence and charm of it. However, later on, I discovered that my hubby had a great love for this movie. Go figure! It was really unexpected. One year for Halloween, he even dressed up like Alex, a droog from the movie. He looked quite unique and interesting. But the funny thing was that no one around him knew what he was supposed to be. They just looked at him with curiosity and confusion. Maybe this movie holds a special place in his heart that I haven't fully grasped yet. I wonder what it is about this movie that makes him so fascinated. I guess I need to watch it again with a different perspective to try and understand his love for it.
