It is truly interesting to observe how minimalist the script itself is. The simplicity of the script can often lead to a more profound and engaging experience. With fewer words and a stripped-down structure, the essence of the story is able to shine through more clearly. This minimalist approach forces the audience to pay closer attention to the details, as every word and action carries significant weight. It also allows for greater creativity and interpretation, as there is more room for the imagination to fill in the gaps. Additionally, a minimalist script can be more accessible and easier to understand, as it avoids unnecessary complexity and clutter. Overall, the minimalist nature of the script adds an element of intrigue and elegance that can enhance the overall quality of the work.

A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess

I have just finished reading this novel, which will make me write one of the hardest reviews I have ever written in my life. This novel is not for any beginner in reading, nor do I think it is suitable for those who have not passed a certain age. It is dangerous for teenagers or children, as it is full of violence, sex, and crime.

The word "orange" is a word from the Malay Archipelago and means "human being", that is, turning a human being into something like a machine, and this is where the name of the novel comes from.

The protagonist of the story, Alex, is a fifteen-year-old teenager, although he looks older. He is bold, intelligent, open-minded, sadistic, a criminal, with a strong tendency to violence, obscene in his language and actions. His violence does not need a reason other than his desire for it and his enjoyment of committing crimes.

He plays the role of the leader of a small gang of four members of the same age, Georgie, Pete, and the huge, silent, and extremely violent Dim, but with limited intelligence. They engage in various violent and criminal acts every night, such as beating a teacher who is walking alone on the street carrying books, beating a drunk man brutally, raiding a store and stealing from it, beating the store owner and his wife and leaving them bleeding, stealing a car and driving it in the suburbs, and raiding the house of a writer, beating him until his face swells and brutally raping his wife.

All of this happens in one night in Britain in a world that is supposed to be the 1990s of the last century, although the novel was written in the 1960s as a prediction of what might happen in the 1990s. It is a strange world of a totalitarian dictatorship government with extreme fanaticism and violence, and also the police forces that are no less criminal than the criminals. It is a country that is devastated, corrupt, and decadent, what is called a dystopia or a worse world.

The author portrays a world of deviant teenagers who are extremely deviant in their crimes, their boldness and lack of fear of anything, no conscience, no fear, no remorse. They even invent a special slang language that they use in the bars under the influence of strong drugs, and they commit the most heinous crimes with violence and obscenity.

This is how the first part of the novel ends, in which Alex himself analyzes their lives and his life, and he even reads newspapers and articles that talk about the new generation and their criminality. It is worth noting that Alex here is not stupid or ignorant of what he is doing, but on the contrary, he is fully aware of his crimes and his sadistic nature, and he repeatedly mentions his enjoyment and his true desire to commit obscene crimes. Here is a quote from the novel in Alex's words: "Something of a spree, my dear sirs, for I cannot bear to have my freedom restricted. All my activities will be limited in the long future ahead of me to rosy dreams before I am subject to a beating with a whip or the breaking of bones with a chain or in a car crashing on the highway, that is, not to be arrested. This is plain speaking, but their shame or the tightening of the noose - he means the government and the police - in what is the cause of corruption and evil only makes me laugh! They do not search for what is the cause of good, and if they do search for the cause of corruption? If people are good, it is because they like this, and it is not for me to interfere in what causes their comfort, and so, it must be applied to the other side! And I am on the side of this side, and more than this, corruption is the corruption of the self, my self or your self in what we mean by ourselves alone, and the corruption of the self is the nature on which man is born, but corruption is because they do not allow absolute freedom, and if what I do is only because of motives from myself and because I like to do it!....."

The dialogue shows that Alex is not a simpleton or stupid, but he is fully aware of what he is doing and the reasons for it, that he is actually corrupt from the inside, and it is from himself, without education, without morality, without conscience, and he even laughs at those who attribute the cause of the corruption of individuals to the corruption of governments, because the opposite is actually true, and the cause of corruption is the lack of absolute freedom!!! And what is absolute freedom and what can it lead to????

The first part ends with Alex being arrested for a crime and sentenced to 14 years in prison, and here the second part begins, which talks about prison and the situation there, and that he becomes a convert to the church and reads the Bible not out of a desire for goodness but to enjoy the obscene parts in it and to read about the scenes of beating and violence in it and imagine himself as the one who wields the whip to beat the Lord Jesus!!!!!

After a beating of another prisoner that leads to his death, Alex is chosen to undergo a new government treatment that is supposed to lead him to complete goodness, in other words, to become without will, without a true will to be good or bad, but simply to become without the ability to commit crimes through a treatment that he calls the Ludovico Technique, where he is injected with a substance and forced to watch extremely violent films and associate them with a situation where violence or the sight of violence causes him nausea, vomiting, and illness, and thus his will to violence is completely taken away. The part ends with them conducting a humiliating test on him like a laboratory rat in front of the Minister of the Interior and a number of other people.

The third part takes place after his release from prison and his rehabilitation to refrain from violence, where he faces many people and things that change his life repeatedly. From friends and enemies and opposition figures who try to use him against the government and its supposed treatment for crime.

The novel can be classified as science fiction or political fiction. It describes another world and deviant characters. It is a difficult novel to digest and is full of ideas. Every character in it is an important axis. Everyone in it is a criminal, and the criminal becomes a victim and still remains a criminal. There is the small criminal and the big criminal, the sadistic and obscene violence.

There is a clear political situation related to society and criminal teenagers, an analysis of that fictional reality that seems to be related in some way to the Western reality and Western societies, and calls for freedom and to what extent this freedom should be given? Is reform possible? How? What are the root causes of corruption? Is the individual the root cause of corruption or the government? And is one actually a mirror of the other?

If you are not strong-hearted and have a high tolerance, do not read this novel, as it causes anxiety and stress, but in fact, it is a strong and excellent artistic work. If you like political fiction novels and criticism of governments and policies, read it and you will be amazed by its strength.

It is worth noting that it was made into a film in 1971, directed by Stanley Kubrick, with a screenplay and dialogue by him. The film differed from the novel in some aspects, especially the ending, which the director shortened completely, which aroused the anger of the author, who continued to criticize the film until his death. The film itself was banned from being shown because of the strong scenes of violence and the theme of crime in it.

I really don't understand how on earth people could have any liking for this kind of thing.

It seems completely beyond my comprehension. Maybe there are some aspects that I'm not aware of, but from my perspective, it just doesn't make any sense.

How could anyone find enjoyment or value in something that appears so unappealing to me?

It makes me wonder if there are different ways of looking at things, or if people have some hidden motives or preferences that I can't fathom.

I guess everyone has their own tastes and interests, but this particular thing just leaves me completely baffled.

I read the American version of the book which had a reference guide in the back.

This reference guide proved to be extremely helpful as it provided additional information and context that enhanced my understanding of the story.

I truly enjoyed reading the book. The plot was engaging, and the characters were well-developed.

However, I must admit that Kubrik's movie adaptation overshadowed the book for me.

The movie brought the story to life in a visually stunning and captivating way.

It had its own unique interpretation and added elements that made it a memorable cinematic experience.

Despite this, I still appreciate the book for its own merits and would recommend it to others.

It offers a different perspective and allows readers to form their own images and interpretations of the story.

Overall, both the book and the movie have their own charm and value, and it is up to the individual to decide which one they prefer.

Although I am convinced that the translation of the novel has lost a great deal of its beauty and made it rather plain, yet it is full of obstacles that force people to question and attempt to relate the events of the novel to reality. The musical aspect, the intense violence, the conflict of human interests and everyone's eagerness to reach their own interests without thinking about the consequences, coercion and choice, good and evil... all these are things that the author touches upon in a creative way.

It is an outstanding novel.

This is truly one of the best books I've ever had the pleasure of reading.

The way in which Burgess constructs this book is nothing short of literary genius.

At the beginning, you find yourself constantly flipping to the glossary as you encounter the unique and crazy language.

However, before you even realize it, you become completely immersed in this strange language and the equally strange world that Burgess has created.

Somehow, you manage to pick up the language quickly, and all the while, the book forces you to question society and human nature.

It's not just a book; it's an experience that stays with you long after you've turned the last page.

It makes you think, it makes you feel, and it makes you see the world in a whole new light.

Truly a remarkable piece of literature that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a thought-provoking and engaging read.

I can picture the actors bringing the words to life on the big screen, and I can analyze the story structure, the dialogue, and the cinematography. Reading film scripts also gives me insights into the creative process of filmmakers and helps me understand how they bring their ideas to fruition.

Moreover, it's a great way to relax and unwind. I can get lost in the story and forget about the stresses of daily life. Whether it's a thrilling action movie, a heartwarming romance, or a thought-provoking drama, reading film scripts always offers me a captivating and enjoyable experience.

It left me speechless.

I was completely dumbfounded and at a loss for words. The situation was so unexpected and overwhelming that I simply couldn't find the right things to say.

My mind went blank, and I just stood there, staring in disbelief.

The experience was truly one that I will never forget, as it had such a profound impact on me.

It made me realize how sometimes life can throw us curveballs that leave us completely stunned and without the ability to express our thoughts and feelings.

Even now, as I think back on it, I still struggle to put into words exactly what I was feeling at that moment.

It was a moment of pure shock and amazement, and it will always remain etched in my memory.
