I have been a loyal listener of Mike & Mike for many years and have been closely following Get Up since its debut. One of the aspects that truly appealed to me was the unique approach of Greeny.

For all of us, there are times when we face indescribable pain. And in those moments, one of the best things we can do is to focus on something that may seem meaningless as if everything depends on it. This form of distraction therapy is truly wonderful.

What makes this concept even more relatable in this book is that the distraction is paired with someone who is an idiot in the most endearing way. Whether these stories are true or not is almost beside the point because I can easily envision all of them happening to him.

If you're not a fan of Greeny or if you find him to be a snob, then this may not hold much appeal for you. However, if you enjoy his work on ESPN as much as I do, then you're sure to love this. It offers a lighthearted and entertaining escape from the rigors of daily life.

So, give it a try and see if it doesn't bring a smile to your face and a bit of relief to your soul.

It seems as if this work was penned before he truly discovered his unique voice.

However, one can already detect the beginnings of his radio personality.

The main theme running throughout the book is his reflections on the early years of fatherhood.

At least from the perspective of someone who has already endured that process, these reflections might seem a bit superficial.

Nevertheless, it remains a diverting read, with some witty commentaries sprinkled throughout.

These witty remarks add a touch of humor and lighten the overall tone of the book.

Despite its shortcomings in terms of depth, it still manages to engage the reader and offer some interesting insights into the experiences of early fatherhood.

It's a book that can be enjoyed for its entertainment value and the glimpses it provides into the author's life and thoughts during that particular stage of his journey.

Greenberg delves into the intricacies of marriage, children, sports, being "a little famous," and numerous other subtleties of daily life in his first book, wearing the hats of a father, a husband, and a sportscaster.

The book is essentially composed of journal entries from different periods both before and during his fatherhood, as advised by his therapist. What strikes me as the funniest aspect of the book is that a significant portion of it is about him making inappropriate remarks or actions at inopportune moments. This offers a unique perspective on a TV personality whom the majority of people assume to be flawless. He constantly asserts on his radio show that he is just like the rest of us, and this book serves as a prime illustration of that truth.

I devoured the entire book in just 2 - 3 sittings, and it is highly humorous. My two favorite sections are as follows: (1) He proposes that parents, after their children's games, should refrain from asking "Did you win?" and instead ask "Did you have fun?" Allow the child to decide when they wish to share with you about winning and losing, with the hope that they will truly relish their youth and recognize that life is not solely about wins or losses. (2) He recounts how excited he has always been to take his daughter to swim lessons every Sunday morning. For the past 4 years, he has swum with her. One day, as he gets dressed, the instructor mocks him and informs him that after the age of 4, the children practice on their own. "Bye Daddy!" his daughter shouts, and the instructor retorts with "See, she doesn't need you!" It comes as a shock to him, but even more so to me, who doesn't have children yet, that they don't require you as much at such a tender age of 4.

Written by Mike Greenberg of “Mike and Mike in the Morning”, this book was bought for my husband who listens to their radio program every morning on his way to work.

It's not entirely about sports. Greenberg provides us with a fascinating glimpse into his life. Firstly, as a husband, sharing the joys and challenges of married life. Then, as a father, revealing the precious moments and the responsibilities that come with raising children. And finally, as a sportscaster, giving us an inside look at the exciting world of sports reporting.

Because life isn't just about sports or family or the need to go to the grocery store. It's about all those things combined. This book beautifully captures the essence of a multifaceted life. It's filled with humor that will make you laugh out loud and also has moments of sadness that will tug at your heartstrings. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you're married (with or without kids) and a sports fan. It's a great read that will keep you engaged from start to finish.

The content I read was truly

awful

There was just too much bullshit about his wife and kids. I had expected a book that would offer valuable insights into his sports career. Instead, it seemed to focus more on personal matters that had little to do with sports.

I would not recommend this book to another male sports fan. It failed to meet my expectations and left me feeling disappointed. I was hoping for a deep dive into the world of sports, but instead, I got a lot of distractions.

Perhaps if the author had focused more on the sports aspect and less on the personal details, the book would have been more engaging and worthwhile. As it stands, I cannot recommend it to others who are interested in sports literature.

I have never listened to Mr. Greenberg.

Even though he gives the impression of having a sense of humor, he also seems slightly chauvinistic.

However, for the most part, it was still kind of cute.

Mr. Greenberg's personality traits are quite complex. His humor might initially draw people in, but the hint of chauvinism can't be ignored.

It makes one wonder if he is aware of this aspect of himself.

Perhaps it's a result of his upbringing or personal beliefs.

Despite this, there is something about him that is endearing.

Maybe it's the way he presents himself or the stories he tells.

Overall, while there are some flaws in his character, there is also a certain charm that makes him interesting to listen to.

It will be interesting to see how he develops and if he can overcome his chauvinistic tendencies.

Only time will tell.

I have a great passion for reading sports biographies and memoirs. I used to be a regular viewer of Mike & Mike on ESPN. On that show, Greeny had a self-deprecating style that wasn't pompous. However, after reading this book, my perception of him has completely changed. I now have a great deal of sympathy for Golic, who had to put up with this privileged prima donna for all those years. I have decided that I won't be watching any more of Mike Greenberg's TV shows. Fortunately, I managed to get this book at an annual local sale that was held to benefit our police department. I'm glad I didn't pay the full price. Save your money!

I'm truly amazed that the editors allowed this book to be published in its current state. I guess they thought that since he's somewhat of a celebrity, it would sell well regardless. I'm guessing that years from now, when his kids read this book, they won't believe how unappreciative their dad is of his abundant life. Basically, this book is just a collection of self-serving journal entries that are very poorly organized. Instead of having several coherent chapters, the book has a prologue, three "sections," and an epilogue. The entries are like a stream of consciousness, going on and on. Sometimes he goes off on one of his many tangents and only gets back to the original point after a long detour. And often, when he does get back, it's not worth the effort. Given that he studied journalism, I had expected a more cohesive book. I suspect that the editors were too afraid to uphold journalistic integrity in this case. That's really too bad. He also tries way too hard to make every sentence or story funny, but it just doesn't work and makes him seem desperate. Moreover, his perspective on many of the stories is not funny at all to me; it's just pathetic.

He spends a lot of time name-dropping designer brands for his clothing, complains about hanging out with billionaires, and the worst part is his overreaction to spending a week at home with his two kids while his wife is out of town on business and he has to rely on their Panamanian nanny to help him take care of the kids. Oh, poor him! He also complains about sharing a house with three other couples and their seven children in Aspen, which has high ceilings. What a hardship! He really acts more like an adolescent than a grown man in his 30s or 40s. I don't feel sorry for his wife at all. She chose to marry him, and that's her problem. He portrays her in a negative light and makes her seem shrewd. I would be pretty annoyed if I had to deal with him all the time too. However, I do feel sorry for his psychiatrist. He documents several of their sessions, and it's clear that he just likes to hear himself talk and doesn't make any effort to face reality. He can't figure out why he's so unhappy when he has everything. Hello - has he ever heard of being grateful?
It's really a shame that he published this book. After reading it, I'm sure that many people at ESPN and other celebrities have countless stories about how self-absorbed he is. One of the worst stories is when his daughter wet the bed and came to him for help. He talks about the options of just sending her back to bed, letting her sleep in his bed (but then he'd get wet), or getting up to change her and the bed sheets, which would take 20 precious minutes of his sleep. Then he has a "brilliant" idea. He says that since Mom has been out of town, she'd probably love it if the little girl curled up with her. So the little girl goes over and snuggles up with Mom. Luckily, Mom didn't wake up. What a lousy excuse for a husband and father. I could continue, but save your money and don't bother reading this one. I usually donate my books after I've read them, but I feel guilty about donating this one. I don't want to throw it in the trash, where it probably belongs.

What to do, what to do...

Your toddler son's first word is an expletive about poo. How embarrassing! Your four-year-old daughter no longer needs you to go to swimming class with her. You feel a bit left out. Your middle-aged, paunchy billionaire bud enjoys wearing speedos in public. It's quite a sight. You have a flat at 4:00 a.m. on the way to work and Triple A doesn't respond. You're stranded and frustrated. You find out the hard way you can't clean up puke with a vacuum cleaner. What a mess! And to top it all off, your wife thinks you're an idiot.

So what to do? Go see your shrink? Or write a book?

How about both?

Accordingly, Mike Greenberg's tribute to superficiality is born. WHY MY WIFE THINKS I'M AN IDIOT, written by ESPN Radio's self-proclaimed--and unabashed on-air drama queen--metrosexual, is a read so light that you're afraid a slight summer breeze will waft it away. Greenberg (known affectionately as "Greeny" by his handful of fans) is at times witty, once or twice engaging, but always self-deprecating as he shares with his readers the trials and tribulations of marriage and parenthood (obviously something foreign to the rest of us)--all from the perspective of a semi-famous celebrity. Greeny writes, goes to see his shrink, then writes some more. After a few dozen pages, the anecdotes and antics start to blur until the reader races to the Epilogue with a sigh and a yawn.

Wait a minute, Greeny. You had Elle MacPherson try on a pair of designer jeans right in front of you at a chic boutique and you said nothing and did nothing?

Your wife's not the only one who thinks you're an idiot.
