My favorite “discovery” during the five months of oral reading has been Robert Frost.

When I was in high school, I thought he was so boring. However, now I have a new appreciation for his works.

I think I like “The Need of Being Versed in Country Things” the best. It has a certain charm that draws me in.

But my favorite deep cut is “A Missive Missile,” which is about an ancient rock drawing.

The poem starts with “Far as we aim our signs to reach, Far as we often make them reach, Across the soul-from-soul abyss.”

It goes on to say that there is an aeon-limit set beyond which our signs are doomed to miss.

Two souls may be too widely met, and the sad-with-distance river beach with mortal longing may beseech, but it cannot speak as far as this.

Overall, Frost's poetry has opened up a new world for me, and I look forward to exploring more of his works in the future.

America's Poet in so many ways. Frost is truly the quintessential example of what most Americans envision when they think of a poet. He has an unfathomable mainstream appeal, yet is also widely regarded as one of the greatest poem writers of all time. This crossover of approval is extremely rare.

However, this mainstream appeal is precisely what makes him one of the most misunderstood poets in the general consciousness. Consider the popularity of "The Road Less Traveled" in internet searches, when the actual name of his famous poem is "The Road Not Taken". This mislabeling shows how the poem has been misappropriated and used in various contexts, such as selling Ford trucks in commercials that promise adventure rather than the somber reflection the poem truly represents.

Frost was one of the most important mood painters in American history. His status as the unofficial legislature of the natural world in the Northeast of America is well-earned. He could conjure up beautiful mental images while remaining accessible to all. Beyond that, he was also incredibly layered, often using the cold air and muddy fields to comment on the American condition. His ability to speak to the past and present of American life was just as impressive as his ability to capture beauty in the landscape.

People smarter than me talk about Frost's structure and writing style with great admiration. Reading Frost is a unique experience that should not be missed or reduced to simple Instagram captions. So, take the plunge and get lost in the Frost sauce. As he wrote, "The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep."

The Road Not Taken - it’s a scam

"The Road Not Taken" is often regarded as a profound and inspiring poem. However, upon closer examination, it can be seen as a bit of a scam.

The poem presents the idea that choosing the less traveled path leads to a unique and fulfilling life. But in reality, the choice between two paths is rarely so clear-cut. There are often many factors at play, and the outcome is not always as rosy as the poem suggests.

Moreover, the idea that there is a "right" and a "wrong" path is a false dichotomy. In life, there are countless paths, and each one has its own set of challenges and rewards. We should not feel pressured to choose the "less traveled" path simply because it seems more adventurous or noble.

In conclusion, while "The Road Not Taken" may have some nice words and a catchy rhythm, it is ultimately a bit of a scam. We should not let it influence our decisions too much and instead make choices based on our own values, interests, and circumstances.

I purchased this particular version of the book when I was in high school. The reason behind my choice was that it was showcased in an episode of Roswell.

Back then, I had a great interest in short poems. This book became my constant companion before going to bed.

One of the most fascinating discoveries for me was the poem "Wind and Window Flower." It is a truly haunting piece that tells the story of a love affair between a houseplant and the frost during the winter.

During an end-of-the-year project, I got so inspired by this poem that I painted my own rendition of it on our classroom wall. It was a creative expression of my love for the poem and a way to share its beauty with my classmates.

Looking back, that book and that poem hold a special place in my heart, reminding me of those precious high school days and my passion for literature.

The second poet that I read in grade school was, as you might have guessed, at Robert Frost Elementary. (I also attended schools named after Thoreau, Whitman, and Emerson.)

What truly strikes me when reading many of these poets now is their remarkable narrative power. They are able to tell beautiful stories in the form of verse, captivating the reader from start to finish.

Moreover, there are so many charged moments within their works, described with such precision that one can vividly picture the scenes in their mind. These intense moments add depth and excitement to the poetry.

But it's not just the charged moments that are impressive. The quiet moments, too, are masterfully portrayed. These moments of stillness and reflection allow the reader to pause and soak in the beauty and wisdom of the poetry.

Overall, the works of these poets have had a profound impact on me, and I continue to be inspired by their words to this day.

I had truly hoped to relish this collection to a greater extent than I actually did.

I suppose it was just that at certain moments, I simply failed to fathom what Frost was attempting to convey.

Nevertheless, there are still numerous poems within this collection that are highly enjoyable.

Each poem has its own unique charm and essence.

Some of them paint vivid pictures in our minds, while others touch our hearts with their profound emotions.

Although I may not have fully understood every single poem, I can still appreciate the beauty and artistry that Frost has put into this collection.

It is a testament to his talent as a poet and his ability to capture the essence of life and nature in his words.

I look forward to exploring more of Frost's works in the future and perhaps gaining a deeper understanding of his poetry.

Beauty and genius have rarely drawn so light a veil across the face of joy and hollow of darkness as with the pen of Robert Frost. His words have the power to transport us to a world where nature's beauty is intertwined with the human experience.

Frost's poetry is a masterful exploration of the profound and the mundane. He has a unique ability to find beauty in the simplest of things, like a snow-covered field or a lonely road. His descriptions are so vivid that we can almost feel the cold wind on our faces or see the stars twinkling above.

At the same time, Frost does not shy away from the darker aspects of life. He delves into the themes of loss, grief, and the human condition with a depth and honesty that is truly remarkable. His poems are a reminder that even in the midst of darkness, there is always a glimmer of hope.

In conclusion, Robert Frost's poetry is a testament to his beauty and genius. His words have the power to touch our hearts and souls, and to make us see the world in a new and different light.

Whose woods these are, I think I know.

His house is in the village though.

He will not mind me stopping here to watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer to stop without a farmhouse near, between the woods and frozen lake, the darkest evening of the year.

When I had to memorize Frost in High School, little did I know how thankful I would be to carry these words with me wherever I go.

Hopefully, my students feel the same way after they labored to memorize the poems I assigned.

If you cherish the natural spaces, then you must love Robert Frost. His works are like a window to the beauty and tranquility of nature.

The way he describes the woods, the snow, and the horse makes us feel as if we are right there with him.

His poems have the power to transport us to a different time and place, and to make us appreciate the simple things in life.

Whether you are a nature lover or just someone who enjoys beautiful poetry, Robert Frost's works are sure to touch your heart.
