Another one of those books that's written for kids but is equally, if not more, enjoyable for adults.

Yes, Meg is annoying at times, but let's remember she's only 12. Nobody seems to be telling her what's really going on, and she's on a very single-minded mission to save her dad.

Is this a Narnia-like Christian allegory or just a book about kids who get dragged through space by celestial beings? That's a question that remains unanswered.

Also, it's worth mentioning that the audiobook narrator did an excellent job with all her different voices. She really brought the characters to life and added an extra layer of enjoyment to the story.

Overall, this is a book that can be enjoyed by readers of all ages. It has a great story, interesting characters, and a touch of mystery that keeps you engaged from beginning to end.

It feels truly wrong to rate this book as I simply couldn't bring myself to finish it. I managed to get about 400 pages in when it dawned on me that I just didn't have the slightest bit of interest in what was going to happen next.

I think this might be a case of being outside of the intended age range for this particular work. I firmly believe that if I had read this as a kid, it would still hold a special place in my heart and be filled with fond memories.

As it stands now, I barely managed to get through "A Wrinkle in Time", and although I liked the themes that were explored within the story, I could care less about the kids. Precocious kids are the absolute worst when you are an adult without children. These stories are chock-full of know-it-all kids, which I can appreciate in an abstract form, but when faced with them in real life, I find the experience nothing short of miserable.

Maybe I'll bring this book along on my next extended flight or when I'm recuperating in the hospital after surgery, but outside of those specific circumstances, I'm quite certain that I will not be able to finish this book.

Well, that was indeed a shock.

I vividly recall reading the first book in the series to my Grade 4 students back in the late 80's. We were all completely enamoured with it. There was Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit, Meg with her typical pre-teen angst, and the little boy with superpowers.

Surprisingly, I don't remember the religious overtones at all. I don't think they ever came up or would have been shocking to me at that time.

However, upon a re-read over thirty years later, the book fails to impress me as it once did. The way it starts out with "It was a dark and stormy night..." is unfortunately the cliched way it continues.

I believe what initially held our interest was the scientific theory of "a wrinkle in time", especially considering this was before the advent of computers in classrooms, the internet, video games...pretty much everything we now take for granted.

I had looked forward to re-reading the book and then carrying on to read the other two in the series which I had never read, but I bailed at the end of the first one. It's no longer a book I will cherish or read to my grandchildren.

I looked at the trailer to the new movie and thought, Yuck! So instead, I watched the 2003 Canadian one on youtube and it's actually pretty good. At least it captures the most salient parts of the story, while skipping the preachy tone of the book.

A Wrinkle in Time (1st book)

As an adult, when reading this book, I found it to be rather slow-paced and a little dull. The main character, Meg, lives with her mother and brothers. Her father has mysteriously vanished. One night, her brother Charles Wallace and a boy from school, Calvin, randomly meet together outside. There, they encounter three stars: Mrs Whatsit, Mrs Who, and Mrs Which. These beings take them on a quest to find her father on another planet. Her brother seems to have some awareness of the situation, and Meg has to figure out what is happening. They manage to save her father, but at the cost of her brother. Now, Meg alone has to go back and rescue her brother. The story unfolds with Meg facing various challenges and using her wits and courage to overcome them. It is a tale of adventure, family, and the power of love.

I read these books way back in the "good old days."

They are truly one of the very few books from my childhood that have remained firmly etched in my mind and that I still think about to this very day.

I simply cannot recommend them highly enough. In fact, I have made it a point to ensure that my children read them, along with my nieces and nephews, and anyone else whom I can manage to convince to do so.

Surprisingly, they are even enjoyable for adults. I discovered this when I re-read them with my daughter a few years ago.

The stories within these books have a timeless quality that transcends age and generations.

They have the power to transport readers back to a simpler time, filled with wonder and imagination.

Whether you are a child or an adult, these books are sure to capture your heart and leave a lasting impression.

I am truly grateful to have discovered these wonderful books during my childhood, and I hope that many more people will have the opportunity to experience their magic.

I vividly recall this book being an absolute delight when I was a child. It was like a magical gateway to a world full of wonder and adventure. Every page seemed to hold a new surprise that would transport me to far-off lands and introduce me to fascinating characters. However, as the years have passed, perhaps somewhere along the way, I’ve unfortunately lost some of my inner Peter Pan. That sense of childlike wonder and imagination that made this book so special to me as a youngster seems to have dimmed. I now look back on those memories with a tinge of sadness, realizing that I may never be able to recapture that exact same feeling. But still, I hold onto the hope that maybe, just maybe, I can find a way to rekindle that spark within me and once again experience the magic of this book as I did when I was a child.

I recently delved into this teen fantasy classic in anticipation of the forthcoming movie.

To be honest, I'm hoping against hope that I'm incorrect in my assumption, but try as I might, I simply can't envision the film remaining true to the profound spiritual underpinnings of the books.

The books are filled with rich and complex themes that explore the human spirit, morality, and the power of belief.

It's these elements that have made the series so beloved by fans around the world.

However, Hollywood has a tendency to simplify and water down such themes in the name of commercial success.

Will the movie manage to capture the essence of the books? Only time will tell.

We'll have to wait and see if the filmmakers are able to do justice to this beloved teen fantasy classic.

I was not as enchanted as I read these books again.

I had hoped to be, and I'm still excited about the movies coming out. However, I must admit that my standards for good writing have changed since I was a pre-teen.

As I re-read the books, I was surprised by many of the logical leaps and uncertain points of view. A younger reader might not be bothered by such things, but I was truly disappointed.

Still, I have loved these books (without actively re-reading them) for decades, and there is a reason for that. The joy of the story is evident, and the situation of a young woman protagonist opening up new horizons is inspiring.

I just kind of wish I could still have that innocent, adoring view of the work. It's strange how our perspectives change as we grow older.

But perhaps that's the beauty of re-reading - it allows us to see things from a different angle and appreciate the work in a new way.

Even though I may not be as enchanted as I once was, I still have a certain fondness for these books and the memories they bring.

And who knows, maybe when the movies come out, I'll be able to recapture some of that initial magic.

I don't know how I managed to go through life without ever being introduced to Madeleine L’Engle and the Wrinkle in Time series until now.

My daughter, Katelyn, had a wonderful idea and bought me the book set for Christmas. Oh, I am truly so glad she did!

The story is simply amazing. It not only captivates the reader with its exciting plot but also holds a deep spiritual meaning that really makes you think.

I have just started reading the first book and I am already hooked. I can't wait to delve into the rest of the series and discover all the adventures and lessons that await.

It's like a whole new world has opened up for me, and I am eager to explore every page.

Madeleine L’Engle's writing is so vivid and engaging that it makes you feel as if you are right there with the characters.

I'm sure this series is going to be a memorable and life-changing experience for me.

So, as a trilogy, I truly relished the journey. However, I'm not entirely certain if I would persevere through the entire quintet.

The initial two volumes of this collection were undeniably entertaining and delightful. The storylines were engaging, and the characters were captivating.

Yet, when it came to the third book, I found myself struggling to maintain my interest. I did quite enjoy the character of the Unicorn, Gaudior. But the constant time leaping and the effort to keep track of who Charles Wallace was within and which one was a descendant of whom became rather tedious. In fact, I found myself dozing off after almost every chapter. This might actually be a great feature for those with kids!

The original book, A Wrinkle in Time, is perhaps my favorite among the three. The adventure it offers is truly unique, imaginative, and knowledgeable. It also has a great character arc and palpable tension.

The second book continues in a similar vein, but I feel it loses a bit of the momentum that the first book had. And as I've already mentioned, my experience with the third book wasn't as positive.

I never had the opportunity to read these stories when I was younger. If I had, I suspect my viewpoint might change, and perhaps nostalgia would prompt me to rate these stories even higher. Although, a 4-star rating is already quite high in my book.

Overall, the story is enjoyable. And depending on my audience, I would recommend it to most people who haven't read it, at least the first two volumes.

A Wrinkle in Time is an exciting and captivating story that follows the adventures of Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin O’Keefe. Meg and Charles’ father, Mr. Murray, has been missing for years after tessering to a new planet. However, the people in the community wrongly believe that he ran away. With the help of Calvin, a boy from their school, the Murray children embark on a dangerous journey to the planet in an attempt to save Mr. Murray. Along the way, they encounter numerous evil creatures and face many challenges. Through their experiences, they learn valuable lessons about love, kindness, and the importance of individuality.

The main theme of A Wrinkle in Time is that love is more powerful than hate when facing conflict. This is demonstrated when Meg tries to defeat IT. At first, she uses her hatred towards the being, but it proves ineffective. However, when she switches to using love and kindness, she is able to solve the problem. This theme is one that I wholeheartedly agree with. Building relationships and showing kindness towards others promotes trust and unity, which in turn leads to greater success.

In comparison to another novel, 1984 by George Orwell, A Wrinkle in Time also explores the theme of a society where individuality does not exist. On the planet Camazotz, everyone is the same and there is no room for personal growth or progression. This is similar to the society depicted in 1984, where the government controls every aspect of people’s lives and suppresses individuality.

One of the most interesting characters in A Wrinkle in Time is Charles Wallace. Despite being only six years old, he is extremely intelligent and has accelerated senses. He is able to sense when things are about to happen and can see people’s true characters. His mind is constantly working, analyzing the world around him and coming up with ideas to help the group succeed. He remains calm in difficult situations and is able to think clearly under pressure.

However, like any book, A Wrinkle in Time is not without its flaws. One of the main complaints about the book is that it can be too difficult for younger readers to understand. The deep meanings and complex plot can be challenging for children to comprehend, especially when they are faced with quotes like “Like and equal are not the same thing at all!” Additionally, some people have criticized the book for its religious undertones or for having morals and values that differ from their own religious beliefs.

Overall, A Wrinkle in Time is a thought-provoking and engaging novel that offers valuable lessons about love, kindness, and individuality. While it may have some flaws, it is still a great read for both children and adults alike.
