Unlike some other guides, this particular one operates at an extremely high level of discourse.

It is not intended for those without a graduate-school grounding in vocabulary such as "hermeneutic" and "metonymy". However, it provides a very good overview of the scholarship up to 1998, offering a great deal to ruminate on.

Nevertheless, the print is tiny. I highly recommend using a magnifying screen, especially for those of us with aging eyes. I even showed a page to my husband, who is a typesetting geek, and he recoiled and exclaimed in horror - and I'm not exaggerating.

This guide, despite its small print issue, is a valuable resource for those with the appropriate vocabulary and academic background. It offers in-depth insights and a comprehensive look at the relevant scholarship.

However, the small print can be a significant drawback, especially for those who struggle with vision. It is important to consider this when deciding whether to use this guide or not.

Overall, it is a mixed bag, but for the right audience, it can be a very useful tool for further study and reflection.

This is one of my all-time favorite books.

Morrison's book Beloved is truly captivating, with its pages that are both interesting and mesmerizing. Sethe, a former slave, lives in Cincinnati with her daughter Denver and her mother-in-law. She has been ostracized by her community because, 15 years before the story begins, she committed a truly terrible act - she killed one of her own children. However, she had a very good reason for doing so.

To me, the theme that stands out the most is slavery. Sethe was so desperate to protect her children from the clutches of the slave catcher that she was willing to take such a drastic measure. She had endured the pain and suffering of being a slave, and she knew the horrors that awaited her children if they were caught. I understand that everyone may have a different opinion on the theme of this story, but for me, slavery is the most prominent one.

Morrison's characters are extremely believable. Each one is unique in their own individual way, and I truly believed in them. However, Beloved stood out the most to me. Without her, I wonder what this story would have been like. She completes the story and is everything in it.

The novel is set within a tiny house at the end of a country road, but a lot happens there. The author's tone makes it easy to imagine everything that is going on in the story. Sometimes, when I was reading the book, I almost felt as if I was a character in it.

Sethe and Denver live at 124 Bluestone, and Sethe believes that her dead baby also lives with them. Paul D, an old friend of Sethe's, quickly moves in. After he does, the baby ghost disappears, and they believe that Paul D is a ghost catcher, although they're not sure. One day, when Sethe, Denver, and Paul D return from the carnival, they see a young woman sitting on the tree stump outside of 124. The girl needs a place to stay, and she will be good company for Denver. Her name is Beloved, which is the name Sethe gave to her dead child.

This book is really great, although I didn't connect with it on a personal level. I would still recommend it to everyone. It doesn't relate to things happening now because there is no more slavery. If you enjoyed this book like I did, then I recommend that you also read Guard of Honor by James Gould Cozzens, Elbow Room by James Alan McPherson, and Scarlet Sister Mary by Julia Peterkin. These books would also be great choices to read.

One of the most painful books to read is written by Toni Morrison.

The story is truly devastating, leaving a profound impact on the reader.

However, what makes this novel even more remarkable is its extremely well-thought structure.

It is not easy to fully grasp the complexity of the structure upon the first reading.

To me, it is a writer's achievement par excellence.

As a writer myself, I am deeply inspired by Morrison's work.

I am planning to read this book a second time, with the intention of better understanding how such a great writer was able to accomplish this masterpiece.

I believe that by delving deeper into the novel, I will gain valuable insights into the art of writing and be able to apply them to my own work.

Morrison's writing is a testament to the power of literature to move and inspire us, and I look forward to uncovering the hidden gems within this remarkable book on my second reading.
