Simmons is an extremely sharp and highly skillful writer. Most of these stories, be they even the seemingly stupid ones, have effortlessly pulled me in. He has the ability to pen deeply chilling horror that sends shivers down one's spine, as well as imaginative science fiction that takes the reader on a wild ride. However, he truly shines when writing about those quiet, sad childhoods. Stories like The Death of the Centaur, Iverson's Pits, and the unrivaled River Styx Runs Upstream are testaments to his prowess in this regard. It surely can't be an easy feat to have one's very first story turn out to be the most brilliant work. But hats off to Simmons for not only keeping up the good work but also for continually striving to try something new. His writing is a captivating blend of different genres and emotions, making him a writer worth following and admiring.
