It is an absolute pleasure to slowly and deliberately savour the words within this extremely rich collection of Iris Murdoch’s writings.

Her works are a treasure trove of profound insights and unique perspectives.

I consider myself incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to research the work of one of the most fascinating (yet often overlooked) philosophical voices of the twentieth century over the course of the next three years.

Murdoch’s ideas have the power to challenge and expand our understanding of the world, and I look forward to delving deep into her writings and uncovering the hidden gems that lie within.

Each page is like a new adventure, waiting to be explored, and I am excited to embark on this journey of discovery.

With every word I read, I feel myself being drawn further into Murdoch’s world, and I can’t wait to see where this research will take me.

It is truly a privilege to be able to study the work of such a remarkable thinker, and I will make the most of this opportunity.

It took me approximately a year to work my way through these essays.

I truly relished her writing style and the profound philosophy she presented.

However, one aspect that posed a bit of a challenge for me was the way the essays were grouped. I simply didn't quite grasp the reasoning behind it.

Nonetheless, I had a particular affinity for the interview transcriptions. They provided a unique insight into her thoughts and ideas.

Moreover, the essays where she delved into the connection between literature and philosophy were truly captivating. It was fascinating to see how she intertwined these two disciplines and explored their mutual influence.

Overall, despite the small hurdle of the essay grouping, I found the entire collection to be a rich and rewarding read.

I don't remember exactly when I read it as it was almost 10 years ago. However, I have a distinct feeling that I really liked it.

The passage of time has blurred some of the details, but the overall impression it left on me still lingers.

It could have been a book, a story, or an article that captured my attention and engaged my emotions.

Even though I can't recall the specific content, the fact that I have a positive memory of it suggests that it had something special.

Maybe it was the writing style, the interesting characters, or the unique plot that made it memorable.

I sometimes wonder if I should try to find it again and read it a second time to see if it still has the same impact on me.

But for now, I'll just hold onto the memory of enjoying it and let it serve as a reminder of the power of good literature.

I have to say that Murdoch is truly one of the kindest and most humble writers of philosophy that I have ever had the pleasure of reading.

She approaches existential themes in a remarkable way, without the typical angst that often plagues such discussions. Instead, she does so with keen insight and an admirable sense of restraint.

Her style and the substantive claims she makes are a perfect balance between the urge toward philosophy and the urge toward literature. She focuses her attention on some of the most enduring problems in philosophy, yet she does so without oversimplifying them. She also manages to avoid making over-radical claims.

This is not the standard academic fare that one might expect. However, it clearly comes from a mind that deeply understands the importance and lasting relevance of the philosophical canon.

While much of philosophy seems to serve the purpose of making life more problematic, Murdoch's philosophy has the opposite effect. It makes life appear less problematic, offering a refreshing and unique perspective on the human condition.

Her work is a testament to her remarkable talent and her deep understanding of the intersection between philosophy and literature. It is truly a joy to read and study.
