A FUTURE CONDEMNED

A dark and unfathomable power governs post-nuclear America. Its tentacles reach from the heart of the garrison-ruled cities to the lawless Outlands where a last bid for freedom remains. A former warrior of the secretive regime, Kane has become a fugitive of the order he once served, racing to expose the blueprint of a power that's immeasurably evil.

A PAST DENIED

Kane's quest allies him with fellow outcasts Brigid Baptiste and Grant, all willing to risk the peril of seeking the truth. In a pre-apocalyptic New York City, hope lies in their ability to reach one young man who can perhaps alter the future. But history, as they'd been taught it, does not exist. And now shadowy figures are aware of their purpose and have targeted them for destruction.

Nothing is as it seems. Not even the invincible past...

Well, I really made an effort to like this one. However, much of it simply wouldn't allow me to do so.

The sound quality is truly very good. The sound effects are excellent, and the narration is also quite good. The male characters were okay, in a sort of G.I. Joe cartoonish way. But the Brigid character sounded as if she despised everybody else, and the Domi character sounded like a helium-filled manga creature.

The story progressed at a pace that managed to cover up some of the inconsistencies. Perhaps it was the sound effects that ultimately did it in for me. If you're going to have scenes of torture with electrically-charged alligator-clips or discussions about posterior-probing... then I have to say no thanks to the audio version. It just didn't sit well with me and made it difficult for me to fully engage with the story.

Overall, while there were some positive aspects such as the good sound quality and narration, the unappealing character voices and certain disturbing elements in the sound effects made it a less than enjoyable experience for me.

A very original twist to the going back in time to change the future kind of story. It presents a unique perspective that sets it apart from the typical time travel narratives. Instead of the usual linear approach, this story takes an unexpected turn, delving into the complex consequences and implications of altering the past.

The characters find themselves in a web of events where their actions in the past have far-reaching effects on the future. As they navigate through time, they must grapple with the moral and ethical dilemmas that arise. This adds an extra layer of depth and complexity to the story, making it not just a simple adventure but a thought-provoking exploration of cause and effect.

The author's vivid descriptions and engaging writing style draw the reader in, making them feel as if they are right there with the characters, experiencing the thrills and challenges of time travel. Overall, this story offers a refreshing and original take on a popular genre, leaving the reader eager to see what will happen next.

Set in the same world as the Deathlands series, this captivating set of books offers a whole new set of adventures in the post-holocaust world.

It is a thrilling journey that follows the exploits of a group of good men. Their adventures take them through the harsh and unforgiving landscapes that have emerged after the apocalypse.

Readers will be on the edge of their seats as they follow the characters' struggles and triumphs. The series is filled with action, danger, and moments of great courage.

If you are a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction or adventure stories, then this series is highly recommended. It will transport you to a world like no other and keep you entertained from start to finish.

A truly weird time travel story? Well, at least it manages to break the mold to some extent.

These types of stories will never reach more than a 3-star rating. They are simply quick afternoon fluff reads that offer a bit of light entertainment.

And that's precisely all I ever require from them. They are the perfect escape during a short break in the afternoon, allowing me to unwind and let my mind wander.

Although they may not be the most profound or complex tales, they serve their purpose well. They provide a momentary distraction from the daily grind and offer a bit of fun and whimsy.

In a world where we are constantly bombarded with serious and heavy information, these light-hearted time travel stories are a welcome relief. They allow us to suspend our disbelief and enter a world of imagination and adventure, even if only for a short while.

So, while they may not be masterpieces, they have their own charm and appeal. And for that, I am grateful.

Well, DAMN! I got a real dud with this one. Book four was an absolute mess of timeline-traveling, filled with scientific thesis-like rambling that had me zoning out just like I used to with my 9th grade history teacher. I simply blanked out completely.

To be honest, this read did nothing to move the story forward. The whole time travel concept was so convoluted. In book terms, it was something like this: if you were to bend the book in such a way that the beginning and the end touched, you could somehow jump through space or something. It was a crazy idea that I really struggled to understand. In fact, that's exactly what I should have done; just hop-scotched right over that part. I'm not sure if I explained that properly, but it seemed kind of funny in my head at the time.

Anyway, on to the next book. I'm really hoping that the next one will redeem this disaster of a read. Maybe it'll have a more engaging plot and better writing that will actually keep my attention. Fingers crossed!

I find myself enjoying these a great deal more than the Deathlands series.

To be honest, I'm not entirely certain why this is the case. However, part of the reason might be that this series feels more...coherent, I suppose.

Unlike the Deathlands series, which sometimes gives the impression of being a hodgepodge of different ghost writers' interpretations of the characters.

In this series, there seems to be a more unified vision and a stronger sense of continuity. The characters develop in a more organic way, and the storylines flow smoothly from one installment to the next.

Perhaps it's also because the writing style in this series is more engaging and immersive. The authors have a knack for creating vivid settings and compelling characters that draw the reader in and keep them hooked until the very end.

Whatever the reason, I'm definitely looking forward to reading more of this series and seeing where the story takes me.
