More like 4 1/2 stars. This memoir is truly a gem that will make you laugh out loud. It tells the story of a new Pulitzer prize winner who is in a new marriage and on the campaign trail for a new Senator. The author's writing is extremely well done, and any woman of a certain age will find herself nodding and smiling throughout the book. It's a relatable and entertaining read that will keep you engaged from start to finish. Whether you're a political junkie or just looking for a good laugh, this memoir is definitely worth checking out.
Being an Ohioan with a particular political inclination, I truly have a great affection for Connie Schultz (the journalist) and Sherrod Brown (the U.S. Senator). This is Connie's account of the campaign year when she was constantly introduced as "and his lovely wife" and sometimes just "Connie", as if her last name held no significance. Given that she has always been recognized as a highly independent and vocal woman, readers will receive precisely what they anticipate. I found myself laughing at times, and at others, I was moved to tears. By the time I finished reading, I was completely convinced that my husband and I could effortlessly reside next door to them. I fully intend to explore more of her written works.
