Adaptation of a Carl Sternheim comedy by Steve Martin. I really didn't like this one. It seems that Martin has made some tweaks to turn it into a commentary on sexism. However, despite these efforts, I still couldn't help but find the source material itself to be sexist and unpalatable.
Perhaps when it is performed on stage, the whole experience might be different. Maybe the energy and the presence of the actors could bring out something new and unexpected. But for now, I have no desire to find out. I'm just left with a sense of disappointment and dissatisfaction.
I understand that adapting a classic work can be a challenging task, especially when it comes to dealing with themes that might be considered outdated or offensive in today's society. But in this case, it feels like the original sexist elements still shine through, overshadowing any potential message or value that Martin might have been trying to convey.
Supremely silly but smart as well. This might seem like a paradoxical description, but it holds a certain truth. There are times when someone can appear to be supremely silly, doing things that seem completely absurd and lacking in common sense. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes evident that there is an underlying intelligence at work.
Perhaps this person is being silly as a way to break the ice, to make others laugh and feel at ease. Or maybe they are using their silliness as a guise to hide their true intelligence, not wanting to come across as too serious or intimidating. In either case, their ability to be both silly and smart is a unique and valuable trait.
It shows that they are not afraid to take risks, to step outside of the box and do things differently. It also indicates that they have a good sense of humor and are able to see the lighter side of life, even in the face of challenges. So, the next time you encounter someone who is supremely silly but smart as well, don't be too quick to judge. Instead, take the time to get to know them and you might just be surprised by what you discover.

I saw a production of this many years ago, and ever since then, I have been longing to read the stage play. It has always been on my wish list. And guess what? David put this very play in my stocking for me. =D I was so excited when I saw it. I couldn't wait to start reading it. It turned out to be a really quick read, but it was also extremely funny. The story and the dialogues made me laugh out loud several times. I thoroughly enjoyed it. After reading it, I definitely have the urge to see the production again. I want to experience the story on stage once more and see how the actors bring the characters to life. It's going to be amazing.
