Why is Lust described as hot? Envy is better though. I ship Winry and Ed, Baniyah and Al. Aren't they awesome together?

3.5 - 4 stars

Most of the scenes are same as the anime, but are extended or in a slightly different order.

I really liked Riza dealing with Barry and Roy being irritated with Barry.

Mei Chang;s introduction was different (what a sweetheart!) and then ling and his servants? "I no speak this country language!"

This one was quite a bit shorter, but hopefully is leading to a powerful volume.

Only rating the last couple 4 stars instead of 5 because they were more about the overarching, linking story than adventures with Ed and Al (which is what I prefer to read).

In the Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa a boy, Ed, and his brother, Al, mess up in a dangerous ritual. In that ritual Ed loses his arm and leg but replaces it with metal parts and Al had his soul transmuted into a body of armor. With this incident they travel around trying to find a way to get their original bodies back. I personally love these books so far. It has many unexpected twists and gruel scenes. With being new to anime, I was very amazed on how vivid the graphics were on the killing scenes. It is very action packed with intense battles. It hits many points and emotions such as comedy, sadness, anger, eerie, motivation, and confusion even. There were many scenes that made me laugh out loud and even a couple scenes that made me almost cry. I would recommend this book if you like an action anime with a good amount of humor. Also if want a sweet tear to come down at least once.

I am consistently impressed with Arakawa's pacing and use of characters. She really takes advantage of what works better in a graphic format than in prose: the sheer number of characters would be much more difficult to manage in a novel. She adds them and drops them, brings them back after we've forgotten them in the milieu, and uses them to advance the story in interesting ways. In a novel, the writer would be encouraged to reduce the number of characters to avoid confusion and reader fatigue, but in graphic form, it is much easier to establish and distinguish the characters visually so you can then move forward into development. Her deployment of so many people makes for some exciting storytelling!

this series, the "fullmetal alchemist series" has got to be one of the best mangas that i have ever read. it has tons of graphic action and it really takes you into a whole new world. before this novel, in the seventh novel, where we left ed, he was facing off against greed, a homonculus, he had almost won, when Greed up and left. this is where we start off the next book. the fuhrer himself tracks down greed and they get into a huge battle. all of Greds allies are killed. ed and all make a new friend. and they learn more about the philosophers stone.
