An endearing tale from childhood has always held a special place in my heart.

I grew up watching the animated movie based on this story every single year. It was a tradition that I cherished deeply.

Once I had my own daughter, I knew without a doubt that I had to buy this book for her. I wanted to share the magic and wonder that I had experienced as a child.

Now that she has grown, I found myself longing for a copy of the book for myself.

This book is not just a simple story. It teaches us profound lessons about love and friendship. It shows us the importance of celebrating life in all its forms.

These are lessons that we are never too old to be reminded of. They are timeless and universal, applicable to people of all ages and walks of life.

As part of my 2017 Reading Challenge, I decided to approach this book from a nonhuman perspective. I wanted to see if I could gain a new understanding and appreciation for the story by looking at it from a different point of view.

I'm excited to embark on this new reading adventure and discover the hidden gems and insights that this beloved tale has to offer.

Friendship is a precious and wonderful thing that knows no bounds of age. It can bring joy, comfort, and support to our lives. This beautiful tale of friendship is one that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

In this story, we meet two characters who come from different backgrounds and have different personalities. But despite their differences, they form a deep and lasting friendship. They share their joys and sorrows, their dreams and fears, and through it all, they remain loyal and true to each other.

Their friendship teaches us that it doesn't matter who we are or where we come from. What matters is that we are kind, caring, and willing to open our hearts to others. It shows us that friendship can overcome any obstacle and that it is a bond that can last a lifetime.

This beautiful tale of friendship is a reminder that we should always cherish the friendships in our lives. I was ten, almost eleven, the summer I first read Charlotte's Web.

Understanding life and death, the cycle of life, is never an easy feat. Even though we hear about death from a very young age and learn about the birth of people and things, the two extremes of that cycle, learning is not the same as understanding.

Understanding often stems from experiencing, and experiencing the cycle of life as a child can be as difficult as it gets. However, the beginning of it might not be such a hard thing to endure. We might get a baby brother or sister, or the neighbor's cat has kittens and one of those kittens comes to live in our house, becoming our four-legged companion. At first glance, we start to understand what being born means. And that's something significant.

Later, as life progresses, we witness plants and insects dying, sometimes under the soles of an adult's shoe or even our own. If we are unlucky (or perhaps just not very fortunate), a pet of ours would die when we are still very young, giving us a better understanding of what death implies.

So, understanding life and death is an endeavor that involves both wonderful and terrible experiences, and that is precisely what Charlotte's Web is all about.

It all commences one morning, over breakfast, when Fern sees her father heading outside, ax in hand, and she poses an innocent question: “Where’s Papa going with that ax?” The answer is straightforward: He's going to kill the runt pig of the newest litter.

Fern, horrified despite understanding that without a dead piggy there would be no bacon, begs her father to spare the little piglet. Then, she nurtures him into a healthy pig. Yet, it's Charlotte, the pretty but rather large and hairy spider living over the pig's - Wilbur - nook, who truly saves Wilbur's life. And she does it by using words. Words she weaves into her web. Words she employs to describe how extraordinary Wilbur is.

And, it's Charlotte's perception of Wilbur's extraordinarity that ensures everyone believes that he really is an extraordinary pig. He's not like any other pig and, therefore, will never share their fate. And soon, he becomes famous.

This is a book I've cherished since the first time I read it, but it has much to offer to readers who are not children. It's a book that treats some of the hardest events of our lives with love and respect, assisting us in both understanding and coping with such events.

Now, some mentions might be a bit outdated, but nothing that parents discussing the story with their children can't resolve.

All in all, it's a wonderful read that leaves a lasting impression.

Illuminating

I read this book titled "Charlotte's Web" with my 8-year-old daughter, Luna.

In terms of ability, I firmly believe that this is an outstanding book for children of her age group to pick up and read. My daughter has an intense passion for animals, and she absolutely adored the interactions between Fern and Wilbur. Moreover, she actually learned a significant amount about spiders as well.

This is without a doubt one of the better books we've read together.

For me, as someone who truly dislikes animal stories, especially those that are anthropomorphic, I initially thought this would be just okay. I never imagined that I would develop an emotional attachment to a spider. However, after rereading the last sentence of the second to last chapter, both of us couldn't help but shed tears.

So perhaps I was mistaken. I think for our next reading session, I need to select a more light-hearted book to balance out the emotions.

Nevertheless, "Charlotte's Web" has left a lasting impression on both of us, and I'm glad we had the opportunity to experience this wonderful story together.

I am not a person who befriends just anyone she meets. In fact, I'm not even the type who befriends someone she has known for a long time easily. I often have this feeling that I don't deserve it. But as Charlotte said, "You have been my friend. That in itself is a tremendous thing."

The closeness of friendship is truly determined by the frankness of the relation. When you can freely joke and be completely honest without the slightest fear that your friend will get upset. You can even wake her up by playfully pulling her leg when she wants to sleep. And then you both will burst into laughter. It's such a wonderful thing that you don't even need a specific reason to laugh together. Right?

You're my Ron, and no matter what, you have to endure me till the end of our lives. There is no escape! description

After all, what's a life, anyway?

We're born into this world, crying and innocent. We take our first breaths, and from that moment on, a journey begins.

We live a little while, experiencing the joys and sorrows, the loves and losses. We learn, we grow, we make mistakes.

We form relationships, create memories, and leave our marks on the world around us.

But then, all too soon, our time comes to an end. We die, and our bodies return to the earth.

As E.B. White so poignantly wrote in Charlotte's Web, "After all, what's a life, anyway? We're born, we live a little while, we die."

It's a simple truth, but one that makes us stop and think about the meaning and value of our existence.

Do we make the most of our time? Do we live lives that are full and meaningful?

These are questions that each of us must answer for ourselves.

That Wilbur is Some Pig! :)

I have adored this classic children's story ever since I was 5 years old and the school librarian read it aloud to my school class. Even as an adult, this story remains one of my all-time favorite feel-good tales. After listening to the audio book version narrated by the author E.B. White himself, my love for this story has only deepened. White's charming yankee twang added an extra layer of joy to the whole experience.

Wilbur is born a runt. Runty pigs are usually too small and often die, so Farmer Arable decides to kill it. However, his 8-year-old daughter Fern pleads for the life of the little newborn pig, and her father finally gives in. She raises little Wilbur until he is big enough to be sold. Then the growing pig is sold to Zuckerman's Farm, where he meets other farm animals and a spider named Charlotte, who becomes his best friend. When Wilbur discovers that he is being fattened up for slaughter, Charlotte promises to save his life. She contemplates how to achieve this, and what she comes up with makes this lovely book a truly magical and memorable story.

Generally speaking, I am not a fan of spiders. But Charlotte is truly lovely. Her friendship with Wilbur demonstrates that it doesn't matter what someone looks like on the outside. Friendship is based on what lies within.

The audio book version I listened to from Books On Tape is narrated by the author and is approximately 4 hours long. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it while cooking dinner and doing housework. It made for a very pleasant afternoon. Despite having hearing loss, I was able to easily hear and understand the entire audio book.

Charlotte's Web is included in the list of 100 books for The Great American Read. It is indeed a sweet, classic children's story that has been cherished by millions of children and adults alike since its publication in 1952. This is the 12th book or series that I have read or re-read as part of GAR. I'm so glad I did. This is just a wonderful book! A true classic story unfolds before us, centering around Charlotte the spider and Wilbur the pig.

It is a light and easy read that captivates readers of all ages.

The story is elegantly woven, encompassing multiple themes. It is a story of friendship, as seen in the unwavering bond between Charlotte and Wilbur. It is also a story of loss, which adds a touch of poignancy. And yet, it is a story of new beginnings, offering hope and renewal.

The characters, although simple, are highly entertaining. Their interactions and dialogues bring the story to life.

The quote, “‘Why did you do all this for me?’ he asked. ‘I don’t deserve it. I’ve never done anything for you.’ ‘You have been my friend,’ replied Charlotte. ‘That in itself is a tremendous thing.’” truly encapsulates the essence of their friendship.

Charlotte's web presents a story filled with twists and turns and deep meanings that I won't spoil here. This children's book offers not only entertainment but also a wonderful learning experience, teaching valuable lessons about friendship, sacrifice, and the circle of life.
