Great book! It is short and sweet, yet it contains profound wisdom. In this world, life is tough, and we need to be even tougher to face its challenges.

Some people might think that being easy on a kid will make them happy and comfortable, but in fact, it will only make them soft and unable to withstand the hardships of life.

We should encourage kids to be brave, independent, and resilient from an early age. Let them experience difficulties and挫折, and learn from them. Only in this way can they grow into strong and confident individuals who are capable of handling whatever comes their way.

This book is a great reminder of the importance of toughness and resilience in life. It is a must-read for anyone who wants to succeed and make a difference in the world.

Michael Lewis's short memoir/reflection offers an interesting perspective on the evolution of values as seen through the lens of his old high school baseball coach, Billy Fitzgerald, or Coach Fitz.

Coach Fitz was a firm believer in teaching responsibility and mental toughness to his players. He aimed to "make a man out of the child" without resorting to violence. In the heat of punishment, players might despise him, but later they would come to appreciate his efforts. This has been the case for Lewis and even NFL star Peyton Manning, who credits Coach Fitz as the most significant influence on his maturation.

However, according to Lewis, values have changed over time. In the past, parents might have supported Coach Fitz in his work with their children. But now, in the mid-00s, they have turned on him, seeing his methods as disrespectful to their children and by extension, themselves. They fail to recognize the value of holding people accountable for their choices and behavior.

Lewis points out that the sense of entitlement among those with financial status has become extraordinary. The attitude towards service providers has shifted towards contempt, with the idea of getting "their money's worth" taking precedence. These changes are both palpable and disturbing.

Lewis effectively links his personal anecdote with the broader cultural shift. Coach Fitz represents the old-fashioned values that are being overshadowed by the lack of similar values in younger generations. While Coach Fitz emphasized personal responsibility, he may have fallen short in promoting diversity and tolerance. Nevertheless, this memoir is a brief and worthwhile read that prompts us to reflect on the changing values in our society.

This is a very short book that narrates the story of a man's connection to his coach during his childhood.

I had high hopes of finding some valuable life lessons and useful tips within its pages. However, to my disappointment, such elements were completely absent throughout the entire book.

It merely consisted of a few tales about his experiences playing sports with a coach who had a significant impact on him. But unfortunately, the book failed to delve into the reasons why and the ways in which this impact was so profound.

Consequently, I can only give this book a rating of 1*.

It seems that the author missed a great opportunity to provide deeper insights and meaningful takeaways for the readers.

Perhaps with a more in-depth exploration of the relationship and its significance, the book could have been a more engaging and worthwhile read.

As it stands, it feels rather shallow and fails to live up to the expectations one might have had.

A quick (30-minute) read that offers great insights into one of the traps of modern parenthood.

Overprotecting your child has become a common practice in today's society. Parents are so afraid of their children getting hurt or making mistakes that they shield them from every possible danger. However, this approach can have negative consequences.

By not allowing children to learn lessons the hard way, parents are depriving them of valuable experiences. Children need to face challenges and overcome obstacles on their own to develop resilience and problem-solving skills.

Moreover, overprotecting can lead to a lack of independence in children. They may become overly reliant on their parents and struggle to make decisions or take risks when they grow up.

In conclusion, while it is natural for parents to want to protect their children, it is important to find a balance. Letting children learn from their mistakes and experience the consequences of their actions is an essential part of their growth and development.

Well, that was truly one of the shortest books I have read in a rather long time.

It predominantly focuses on the author's high school baseball coach and his struggle to adapt to the modern era. In this day and age, the players' parents tend to hover over them, and as a result, the coach can no longer be as tough on the players as he was accustomed to being in the past.

I suppose this is considered a bad thing. To put it mildly, it does seem a bit boomerish. It makes one wonder how coaches in today's society can effectively train and guide their players when faced with such challenges.

Perhaps there are alternative ways for coaches to instill discipline and drive in their athletes without being overly harsh. This book really makes you think about the changing dynamics in sports and how coaches need to evolve to meet the demands of the modern world.

**Title: The Beauty of Perfection and Brevity**

In our fast-paced world, the concepts of perfection and brevity hold great significance.

Perfection implies a state of flawlessness, where every detail is meticulously attended to. It is the pursuit of excellence that drives individuals and organizations to strive for the best. Whether it is in art, science, or any other field, the desire to achieve perfection leads to remarkable creations and breakthroughs.

Brevity, on the other hand, is the art of expressing oneself concisely. It allows for clear and effective communication, cutting through the clutter and getting straight to the point. A short and powerful message can have a greater impact than a long-winded one.

When perfection and brevity are combined, they create a unique charm. A perfect and short piece of work, be it a poem, a speech, or a design, can leave a lasting impression on the audience. It showcases the ability to convey a complex idea or emotion in a simple and elegant way.

In conclusion, perfection and brevity are two qualities that we should all strive to achieve. They not only enhance the beauty and effectiveness of our work but also make a statement about our attention to detail and our ability to communicate clearly.

This is a remarkable story that showcases how a tough coach managed to inspire a group of high school students to strive for more in their lives.

Michael Lewis, during his teenage years, was somewhat of a spoiled child. However, Coach Fitzgerald, who not only taught baseball but also imparted valuable life lessons to the team, had a profound influence on him.

The book, although relatively short, is a captivating read. Coach Fitz, as he is affectionately called, left a lasting impact on Michael. The central lesson in the book is that leading an easy life will not adequately prepare one for the difficult challenges that life presents.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it to be a great read. It serves as a reminder that sometimes, we need a guiding hand and some tough love to push us towards our full potential and help us face the hardships of life with courage and determination.

Overall, it's a story that can inspire readers of all ages to reflect on their own lives and make positive changes.

Growing up, we all had "that coach."

It could be the one who said something so profound that you still repeat it to this day. Or perhaps it was the coach who went above and beyond, not just for you as an individual, but for the entire team.

Those who have been fortunate enough to have had great coaches often share their stories, and in doing so, they remind us of the significant impact our own words can have on our players, especially now that we are the coaches ourselves.

We should take a moment to appreciate the influence that coaches have had on our lives and consider giving this message to our own coach as a heartfelt thank you.

After all, they have played a crucial role in shaping who we are and helping us reach our potential.

Let's not forget to show our gratitude and let them know how much they mean to us.

Moreover, the discussion on the evolution of coaching times provides valuable insights into how the coaching profession has adapted to changing times and circumstances.
