This is a really nice story that delves into the impact a coach had on some high school kids. It also touches on the concerning trend of how parents are sometimes enabling their kids to be less responsible. They seem to be allowing them to do whatever they want without having to put in the effort and fight for it.

The story about how kids have changed over the years and how schools now need to be more sensitive towards them, compared to 10 or 20 years ago, is something I frequently hear from my parents, who are both teachers.

I can definitely see a valid point in this short story. However, it didn't really strike a chord with me. Maybe it's because I'm a woman without kids and was raised in an environment where I had to constantly fight and sometimes even give up on "good parties" in order to achieve what I wanted.

It makes me wonder if my perspective would be different if I had children of my own and was more directly involved in their upbringing and education. But for now, while I understand the general idea, the story didn't have that strong of an impact on me.

The author of this remarkable book had the honor of speaking at my graduation from Tulane Graduate School.

Surprisingly, for someone I had never previously heard of, he delivered a truly wonderful and inspiring speech that left a lasting impression on me.

Shortly after that memorable event, I decided to purchase the book for my spouse as a Father's Day gift.

Knowing his phobia towards non-work related literature, I thought the brevity of this book would be ideal.

Today, I spent less than 2 hours reading this book, and it served as a nice dose of life coaching.

The author tells the story in a magnetic fashion, captivating the reader from start to finish.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for some inspiration and practical advice on how to live a more fulfilling life.

It is a quick read that packs a powerful punch and is sure to leave you feeling motivated and empowered.

An interesting story that is as small as it is large.

Michael Lewis vividly recounts the moment when he was highly unqualified yet was put in as a relief pitcher on his school team. His coach, a widely respected and serious figure, gave him the confidence to bring the game home. It was a small event in the coach's life but a HUGE event in the life of a young player.

Lewis revisits his coach after hearing that alumni are raising money to redo a field and name it after their beloved coach. Meanwhile, the parents of the current class in the school are trying to get the coach fired because he may have been too "hard" on their kids. The juxtaposition makes this story extremely interesting as the administration views these parents as "customers," but the coach might be the biggest school-related influence in hundreds of lives.

As with all of Lewis' work, this story offers a wonderful way to spend your reading time. It makes you think about the different perspectives and the true value of a coach in a student's life.

I heard Michael Lewis on a podcast where he referenced this book.

Immediately, I was totally hooked on the podcast now - Against the Rules.

So, I guess I’ll start plowing through some of his other texts. :).

In fact, I ordered 3 copies of the book.
